Terrence Jones comparison

I’d say a poor man’s Paul Pierce

A slow and steady but very deliberate style of play.  Slow shot but accurate and good footwork.  Decent passing and rebounding ability.

like everyone says, i see lamar odom…i do it all player who should be alot more aggressive than he is.

I see a guy who is going to be an inconsistent player with starter potential.  Some of those shot he was putting up v. Ohio State, wow.  He was throwing up some pretty ugly bricks and did it repeditively.  I understand and like the fact that you keep shooting and try to break out of a slump, but at some point you need to tone it down a bit when your J is looking that bad.  He just progressively got worse as the season went on. I’m not that trusting of his future prospects although he does have the potential to be a starter.

He carries a lot of similarities but size and skills to Jeff Green. Much like Green he will flip flop between SF and PF as at PF he will be a defensive liability against much bigger guys.

I agree with Ghetto Sermon, I see a lot of Jeff Green in Terrrence.  They are both good athletes, solid size for the 3, but they are extremely inconsistent shooting the ball.  The only thing that really sets those two apart for me is that I think Terrence has a little better vision and handle then Jeff  at this stage of his career, which helps his case to play more of 3 spot (which position I see him as in the league).

When I watched him early in the season I loved his aggressiveness, but that seems to take a dip when he isn’t clicking on offense. So like many of you, the one name that came to mind was Lamar Odom. Thing is, I think he has much less potential and skill than Odom. So that would bring me to someone like Jeff Green. A guy that is definitely a tweener and struggles against bigger guys. Jeff Green is a not a bad player, but I see Jones as possibly being a slightly better version as I see him as being a better rebounder and defender.

I actually really like the Jeff Green comparison. Might be the perfect way to sum up his strengths and weaknesses. He’s got Odom’s inconsistency, and Green’s skill set.

Mashburn could shoot.  Jones not so much, I think that’s where I might disagree with the comparison.  Mashburn was an absolute monster and I definitely remember him at Kentucky and his early days with Dallas.

Mashburn was far, far, far more aggressive than Jones, and he operated much better on the perimeter.

Perhaps, if you gave Terrence Jones another year of college in which he was the man (which wouldn’t happen even if he returned), he could get some confidence going. Even so, I doubt he’s ever the type of scorer (or overall player) Mashburn was.

Mashburn averaged 19.1 ppg for his career. I would be surprised if Jones ever does that for a season.

I kinda like the Mashburn comparison. I remember Mash as a freshman and he wasn’t doing as much or more aggressive than Jones is. He had a better understanding of how to play as a SF though and was better at hitting jumpers with defenders on him though

 who was Marvin Williams compared to before N/A?

I see him as a Marvin Williams type player with some of Jeff Green’s traits as well. He’s probably got the same amount of athleticism and physical ability as Williams, as well as the ability to operate from 15-20 feet facing the basket or posting up some, but he also has Green’s rebounding ability and decent passing skills when he actually settles in and plays unselfishly. Jones is different than those guys because he can be selfish and he doesn’t play the best defense most times.

Still say this guy is a tweener leaning toward PF. His shot and handles aren’t good enough for a 3. His only bankable skill is rebounding which obviously lends itself better as a PF. Probably the second riskiest American player pick after Perry Jones. Just hard to get a beat on how Jones will develop.
