What position should the Raptors look to improve on via the draft? And if they go for a center(ex: Kanter) , what position should they try to upgrade using Bargnani?

I would try and get someone like Granger for Bargnani if the Pacers are willing. That probably would be the best case scenario for the Raptors. I do think the Raptors should draft a big guy so they have an excuse to trade Bargnani.

Bargs sucks, a decent shooter but he can’t defend a slug trying to pull a 50 lb weight , sort of a black hole (wants the ball more then he deserves), terrible rebounder, not efficient… Just garbage.

They’d be lucky to get a lottery pick for him. He’s a taller Radmonovic

If they draft Kanter they have their center for the next 5-7 years. Ed Davis and Amir Johnson make up the rest of the frontcourt rotation. Derozan is the 2 guard of the future, Weems is a solid back up 3, Bayless is a great back up 1. So they need a starting PG and a starting SF

Say Memphis re-signs Gasol instead of Randolph, they can trade Bargnani to Memphis for OJ Mayo, Mayo can play the point.

Or, they can trade Bargnani and a 1st to Indiana, Calderon and a future 1st to Phoenix for Granger(IND) and Steve Nash(PHX), Indiana could also receive Jared Dudley.

Memphis will try to keep both and Randolph is more likely to stay than Gasol

We should keep our draft picks of the future.  I think we should draft Perry Jones, Derrick Williams or Irving.  We need to upgrade our PG, SF and Center.  Bargnani isnt a true center hes a power forward.  We should trade him on draft day for another top 10 pick and some other assets or a true leader in the locker room.  I think we could trade him and another forward (Kleiza) to the wizards for Mcgee, booker, and their first rounder.  If not, we should sign Marc Gasol in the offseason, I dont think they’ll keep both Gasol and Randolph imo.

They need to draft a PG or SF if they can’t find a taker for Bargnani.  I liked the little bit I saw out of Ed Davis, plus he was on my fantasy team so I got to check his stats daily.  A top  5 pick will at least give them a chance at Irving, Barnes, or Williams (although I see him as more of a 4.)  If Bargs is dealt than Kanter comes back into the equation.

Kanter is part of the equation even if Bargs stays.  That would finally allow Bargs to play his more natural PF role and then you got Ed Davis as a possible 6th man.

Will Irving, Williams, Barnes, and Kanter still be around by pick 5? I personally see them as the top 4 picks. If none of these guys are available I really wouldnt mind drafting Kemba Walker. Though 5 is a little high for him maybe. Perhaps use the #5 pick as trade bait along with bargnani for like a 7-12 pick and a young player if anyone is willing? Just a thought anyway, although it all depends on the interest Bargnani draws.

They should definitely go for a SF who can shoot in the draft. Calderon doesn’t score but that’s fine cuz he has a 100000:1 assist/to ratio, is a decent defender and is tied for the highest PER on the team. DeRozan is a future star. Davis is a starter already, and Amir Johnson could just as easily start as well.

But Linas Kleiza sucks. Sorry, but 11.2/4.5 with a pathetic 1.07 PPS and a ridiculously low PER of 10.1 is unacceptable. This is arguably the worst three-point shooting team in the league, and Kleiza’s 29% mark from range doesn’t count.

If they stay in the 6th spot in the draft I’m looking at Terrence Jones, and praying that Barnes falls. Derrick Williams would also be a good fit but he’ll probably be gone. If they go for a center in the draft I would obviously try to upgrade SF.

For Me its Irving, Barnes, or Williams in that order. With the current standings the raps have the 4th pick so if someone here slips which i think they might i would think about drafting one of them. The only good centers in this draft are euro and i dont know anything about them. We definitely need to upgrade that position but i dont think we should through this years draft. Try to get someone in free agency or trade to fill that hole in the middle and i think that works better for the raps.

Id say trade Bargnani for anything that brings in future assets like picks or young defensive minded players.

Looking at what the Raptors have done in the last 2 drafts, as well as the moves they’ve made during the season (and even the rumours about wanting to move Bargs), it appears as though they’ve finally moved away from the Euro strategy, and have gone with taking young athletic players (DeRozan, Davis, Weems, Amir, James Johnson, the Bayless trade), and their style of play has become much more up-tempo, and I think that’s the way they want to keep it. For this reason, I don’t expect to see us draft a Euro, and to be honest, given that we haven’t even seen Kanter compete at the collegiate level, I’m really not prepared to blow a top 4 or 5 pick on him, and I hope management isn’t either. We all saw how that turned out when we took Bargs…if the basketball gods are kind to us, we’ll get lucky and Irving will be available. If not, I’d like to see an upgrade at the SF, with Williams or Barnes being taken. If all 3 are off the board, then I don’t know, I guess I’ll crawl into a dark hole somewhere and come out in 2 or 3 years with hope that we are at least a 30 win team by then…

I wouldn’t mind taking Terrence Jones either actually…Walker and Brandon Knight are other options if Irving, Williams and Barnes are gone.

I agree, we shouldnt draft Kanter.  Hes a great prospect but he hasnt played at the collegiate level yet, which means it is much more of a risk taking him over say Harrison Barnes, P. Jones or Derrick Williams.  We actually have the 4th spot at the moment so we definitely have a chance at Barnes, Williams, or Irving.  We will have a lot of cap space in the offseason meaning we should draft a big, rebounding center, and have Ed Davis start at power forward.  We need to get rid of Bargnani, its just that simple.
