LazarusMunozParticipantDenver made out like bandits in that trade…they got alot of pretty good players on that team….and they all seem to buy into the team concept

Dale WorthingtonParticipantKnicks are 7-10 since acquiring Melo.
Amazing how people forget that basketball is a team sport.
Guys with heart who care about each other and want to win > 1 guy who can fill it up.
The Nuggets were supposed to take a major step back after losing Melo…
…now look at them. They are DOWNRIGHT DOMINATING.

kngojcParticipantIt helps that the Nuggets can sub in 5 players at a time and not have much of a drop off at all. It’s like wave after wave of fresh legs that can score endlessly. NY just got two players that can score all day long.
I gotta give credit to the Nets GM for forcing the asking price of Melo up and then dropping out and receiving DWill.. That was one of the better moves I’ve seen in a while.

NYK2010ParticipantHa and ppl said the Knicks didn’t have the pieces to get a deal done.
How do those young players look now or would they have preferred the Nets offer of Harris and Favors.
All this winning and Denver hasn’t used Mozgov much and Gallo was hurt for 8 games.

RafterParticipantThe new Nugget acquisitions’ haven’t made a "Team changing impact" but they’re very deep now and that’s probably the reason why they’ve had such a nice run, not to mention opposing teams think that they’ll get an easier game then they would’ve if Billups and Carmelo were there. The home crowd is really great, 27-9 (tied with Boston 3rd in the league)
They (Denver) already had good solid players before the trade, i just don’t think they have enough to go deep into the playoffs but you never know. As for the Knicks, they need more time to gel, i’m not convinced in their system, granted, with their talent now, they can simply outscore teams but in the playoffs, every team will play tough hard defense and attempt to slow the game down .e.g. Boston and Chicago, that’s when the Knicks could crumble.

NickWayne87Participantif the knicks supposedly have more talent and "need time to gel" then why don’t the nuggets? Just a thought.

RafterParticipant@nickwayne Adjustment to shot distribution, Carmelo and A’mare are both 25+ppg scorers, it takes time to get the balance correct and win at the same time, it’s not an over-night thing. The Nuggets however, have 10-15ppg scorers, it doesn’t take a genius to know it takes less shot attempts to get 10-15 points then 25.
Anthony changes the dynamic of the Knicks, that’s a big change, that needs time. Chandler, Gallinari and Felton come in and add depth, they don’t have to light it up, because of that, it takes away tension and pressure from them, players that can just play and enjoy themselves settle in faster. Basic knowledge.

HitsterParticipantThis trade almost reminds me of when AI and Billups were traded and Denver came out better from that trade. The Knicks will probably look to rebuild in the summer and most of us tipped them to be around .500 this year and anything they do in the play offs as a bonus. The Knicks have cleared cap space, traded picks and finally got two franchise players now they need to rebuild around that as much as they can whilst maybe looking for one more good FA this summer or next.
With D-Will being on the block, the fun could have been if the Knicks had jumped in and got him instead of the Nets and then signed Melo in the summer. That way they got their 3 star players maybe a year earlier.
Denver were probably looking to go into full rebuild but they kept Harrington, if Nene resigns/opts in and K-Mart has stayed sound recently providing the leadership role since Billups moved on. This coupled with the younger player gives them a decent core to go forward with and with Coach Karl committed for another 3 years then the team now has good stability. I could still see Coach Karl as an outside bet to be Coach of the Year.

TallmanNYCParticipantThere is an adjustment period for the Knicks and I think they will get better. But keep in mind that Amare and Anthony are not going to start being good at defense. There is no "adjustment" here. They are 7 or more years into the league and they are what they are. That is a problem the Knicks won’t solve. Another thing is that if Anthony is really going to become the player that seemingly lots of people think he is (i.e., top 5 scorer in the league), he has to start hitting 50%+ of his shots. You just can’t claim to be one of the best scorers when you shoot league average FG%.

doubledribblerParticipantI see first round exits for both teams. As for the trade it’s always going to be harder to integrate a superstar then it is integrating guys that are role players. Denver also already had a lot of good talent left after the trade. They added a bunch of good young talent to a team that has the altitude advantage and was already a running team. The Knicks on the other side have had to start relying on guys that they would probably prefer not to play, but with the depth issues don’t have a choice in doing so.
I think the crazy thing about the Knicks though is that they had plenty of scoring with their original team. Adding defensive guys should have been more of a concern.

goneParticipantY’all missing the fact that Nene, Martin, jr, afflalo, Chandler, and Felton all are probably gonna sign elsewhere so basically the nuggets get gallo and Blake griffin’s crotch I mean Mozgov. So yea Denver is winning now but long term knicks will be killing

The lake show2NickWayne87 @ very good point. And i wonder if the Celtics and Heat had the same amount of loses during this "adjustment period" after the same amount of games as the Knicks0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/24/2011 - 8:23am #513125
HotSnotParticipantThis Nuggets team is behaving alot like the 04 Pistons team that got together after aquiring Rasheed Wallace. Don’t be surprised to see a deep playoff run. I’ll be the first to say the Nuggets could be a first round exit… but with a little luck I could also seem them winning multiple 7 game series. They are a complete team without any real weaknesses. They can play small ball, they can run and gun, they have decent size, excellent athleticism, good defense, solid pg play. Boston doesn’t seem as invinsible since their trade of Perkins. The Lakers only have a 7 man rotation and lets face it, their guard play is weak outside of Kobe. OKC almost took the 1st round series against LAL last year so its not like they’re impossible to beat. The Spurs are the ultimate "team" but Denver can counter most of their lineups and are more athletic. If the Nuggets can form the same type of chemistry the Spurs have and the 04 Pistons had, they have a chance to beat them. The Bulls are just as scary as the Nuggets… but they live and die by Derrick Rose. Rose’s slashing ability to get to the hoop or dish it back out to the perimeter is the Bulls entire offense. There’s the occasional pick and role but its not a staple of the Bulls offence.
The Nuggets won there first 2 games after the trade pretty convincingly and I did a quick check of their remaining schedule. They had 23 games left and I figured they could win 13 or more, hold down their current seeding and not miss the playoffs as some had figured after this trade. Well,… they’re going to blow my prediction out of the water.
Billups looked really great during his first 3 games with the Kincks but since be suffered that thigh bruise he’s been outplayed by Toney Douglas who has had an explosive learning curve since the trade. I’m now watching Billups get exposed by the new crop of the NBA’s blindingly fast PG’s almost every night. The Knicks have played better with Douglas on the court and it doesn’t hurt that he’s shooting really well lately while playing pesky defense.

The lake show2Ok lets not get carried away. even with the Lakers 7 man rotation they would eat the nuggets up. They have had this seven man rotation and won back to back titles so thats not a problem

HotSnotParticipant@ The Lake show2, I guess we’ll see in the playoffs. I really doubt this is the Lakers year though.

The lake show2I have zero Doubt. The Spurs…nope. Dallas.. double nope…Celtics without Perkins..Triple nope

goneParticipantOk so answer this…Game 7 WCF, Nuggets down 1 with 7sec left who takes the shot?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/24/2011 - 10:22am #513202
The lake show2Who ever Ty Lawson or Raymond Felton gets the ball to if they drive and get cut off. Much harder to defend when you don’t know who is gona take the last shot. You dont have to be a star or great to take a last shot( Horry, Fisher)

NickWayne87ParticipantBasic knowledge my a double s…….just sounds like an EXCUSE to me……it looks like to me team depth is more important than having 2 or 3 big name volume shooters.

The lake show2Its a case by case or game by game basis.

NickWayne87Participanthaving 10 good players sprinkled with some very good players here and there is better than having 2 great players and a heaping pile of shhhhhh! don’t talk about the knicks like that!
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/24/2011 - 10:32am #513219
B-ball fanParticipantThe Celtics almost won a game 7 in LA last year without Perkins or Green or West or Krstic or Shaq. Just sayin’.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/24/2011 - 1:00pm #513299
The lake show2Almost only counts in Horse shoes. And Bynum was playing hurt ( as well as Kobe). The Celtics are in trouble if they are depending on Always hurt shaq, No rebounding/bad defense Green and Soft no rebounding/bad defense Krstic

rtbtParticipantI’ve repeatedly expressed my opinion on this subject. Denver made out big time and NY was taken for a ride. They broke up a team that had great chemistry, balance, depth, and a bright future. You can’t say that any more about the current Knicks.
- They’re in a state of disarray
- There’s no leadership
- PG and Bench Depth are major problems
- Scoring balance is another one
- Amare and Anthony are both black holes, the ball stops dead in it’s tracks when they touch it. You can have one guy like that but not two.
Isn’t it interesting how the Pro Knick fans always justify every dumb move made by Walsh with that old familiar excuse? And just what is that phony excuse? Don’t judge the trade this year, judge it on what happens next year or two years from now. Hmmm, sounds like a year ago when they were justifying Walsh’s bad moves by saying now we can get LeBron or DWade. Look what happened.
Instead of NY, Denver is now the team with a bright future.

NYK2010ParticipantBlaming Walsh for this trade was stupid it was Dolan who had the meeting and was willing to give up anyone for Mello. Yeah Walsh deserves blame for trading Jordan Hill and the David Lee trade in the offseason. Amare isn’t a black hole, yeah he was awful late night but he’s had a great year. The problem is they have no Center and the bench is very weak. The Nuggets and Suns play more the way the Knicks should be playing. Mello the bal definately stops when gets the ball but he’s capable of being a team player 8 or 9 asts last night. They need help badly at Center and off the bench, Billups he needs to adjust his game too since it seems he’ll be here next year. If Dolan stays out the way Walsh stays and he molds the team they’ll do well if not they’ll be stuck like the Hawks are and never be out of the 2nd of the playoffs at best..
BTW why wouldn’t the Nuggets resign Nene, they were smart to get almost all the young players with cheap contracts on the Knicks. Even if they don’t keep Felton he has some value, Mozgov has a great contract no risk just for next yr and a team option for the following season. Mozgov being Griffin’s b*tch really he had no experiennce at the time and doubtful he’s faced anyone like him before. Also is he the one player who’s been dunked on by Griffin. Nice to see the former Knicks doing well Harrington, Felton, Gallo, Chandler.
Lakers yeah of course there the favorites, to beat them any of the teams will need home court. If Boston has 2 healthy O’neals they have a shot. West maybe the Mavs have the best shot with Chandler, Haywood but they will struggle to guard Kobe. The Thunder are probably another year away but by adding some size in Perkins and Nazr they won’t be manhandled in the paint. with Perkins, Nazr, Serge they won’t be manhandled in the paint like last year.

HitsterParticipantThe Knicks remaining 11 games includes matches against the teams around them in the play off seedings like Indiana and Philly but also includes New Jersey twice, Charlotte, Toronto, Milwaukee and Cleveland. If they can win the bulk of the easier games and maybe one out of Philly and Indiana they should finish around .500 and safely make the play offs as 7th or even 6th seeds,
This summer I’ll say again they need stability and forget about 2012 FA season, the team needs to be in contention from next year not a few years down the line. They acquired STAT last year and need to make nest use of him and Melo now not further down the line.
Denver are likely to have the Thunder in the play offs and I’d assume the Thunder have to start favourites despite never having won a play-off series. The team is a year older than their exit last year with several of KD’s support cast having advanced considerably since then and they have acquired Championship winning experience in Kendrick Perkins. That having been said Denver have solid play off experience to back up their younger players and a hugely experienced Coach who has won numerous play off series. Both teams are in form and the series will not have the pressure that other higher profile series have, I’d favour the Thunder to win in 6 or 7 games.
