Lotto StudParticipantDoug Gottlieb just said Josh Selby is the most overrated player in the Sweet 16. Do you agree with Selby, if not who is your most overrated player?
Although I like Selby a lot because he reminds me so much of 1 of my favorite players in Jerryd Bayless, I do agree to a certain extent.
Like-I like the fact that he is is quick enough to beat his man off the dribble, can shoot it from deep & play the passing lanes well on D.
Dislike-I hate the fact that he relies heavily on the outside shot & does not attack the basket like he should which he is very capable of doing. Also I hate that he does not showcase any of his athletic abilty that he has, I don’t know if it is because he missed out & lost his step, but I would like to see it from him.

PaulsJayhawksParticipantI think its hard knock to call him overrated. Yes he has not played up to his potential but you have to look at some of his roadblocks. Sitting out the first 9 games didn’t help get him off to a good start as he didn’t have a chance to get into rythem. He could have used those games against weak opponents to learn the college game. He has also missed action due to a stress reaction, this came right when he was getting his groove and starting to attack the basket more and I think that injury has really hammpered him. Again Ku’s system leads to wins more than personal stats. I love that the Kid always has a smile and is really a team guy and plays good D for a freshman. It looks more and more like he will stay and I think a summer of practise and increase roll next year and you will see his potential.

beard20ParticipantI can see Selby being one of those players that leave school to early and is forgotten about in 5 years. I think he will make the mistake of coming out this year.

Ghost01ParticipantI will say this much. He was suppose to be a Irving/Knight level freshman and he hasnt lived up to that billing. I suppose its fair to say hes the most overrated player left in the field.

The lake show2Right now i can’t argue with him because he hasnt done much after his hot start. A couple of people were already on his bandwagon after that start instead of waiting for the season to play out. Never get to high or low on a player after a couple of games. He still has the potential to be very good but he hasn’t shown any really point guard ability like the player i once compared him to ( steve Francis) afte ri saw him in H.S

Lotto StudParticipantI’ve been scratched the Franchi$e comparison & went straight to Bayless which quite a few people disagree on.

The lake show2He hasn’t shown to be the scorer Bayless is so far. He doesnt get in the lane or drive as much as Bayless. Bayless was pretty much unstoppable as far as getting in the paint

cookielogicParticipantnot only did he sit the first 9 games suspended, for at least the last month he has battled an ankle injury. he sat a few games for it and has worn a boot when not playing. that injury has taken most of his explosiveness, most of his game rhythm, and seemingly all of his confidence. i think he going to return to kansas next year. if he does, and he gets healthy and full rotations in practice and full game experience he will be much closer to the as advertised player he has been expected to be.

Lotto StudParticipantAnother thing is with Selby which makes me think he lost his step, as far as athleticism he was coming into college listed at 180lbs. It is very obvious Selby has bulked up to about 200lbs. If you were to look at Selby now you would never think he was capable of doing the dunks he was doing on that highlight reel.

yaboymalParticipantAll of you that think that selby is overrated you better shutup, relax, and do some research. First of all he was out half of the summer because he broke his pinky. Then he was suspended for the first 9 games by the ncaa, then he aggrivated his ankle. Also kansas has alot of experienced guards morningstar, taylor, and elijah johnson to run the point, think about it selby has been hit w all these injuries suspensions etc. and people expect him to come in from day one and have the same impact as kyrie irving and brandon knight comon man think about it. They have been training w there teams all summer have had the advantage of learning the system and getting used to there players, also brandon and kyrie have had the ball in there hands since they arrived on campus. Now all of you expect him to come in during the midddle of the season and run the show and lead them to the final 4 as a freshman lets be real nobody and I mean nobody could do that, give it some time before you are so quick to call a 19/20 year old kid overrated.

HaleParticipantIt bothers me that he looks so much bigger then he did in HS. Maybe he has lost athleticism by adding too much bulk.

yaboymalParticipantnow I know there are alot of things he does have to work on such as foot speed, quickness, and point guard skills but he has all the tools to become a good point guard at the next level but he needs to stay for his sophmore year for this to happen..Also he hasnt lost any of his athleticism he can still do the same dunks, one reason why you dont see him dunking like he did in highschool is everybody at this level is quicker, bigger, and more athletic so your not gonna see him dunking on ppl in the lane what 6’1/6’2 guard does that on a consistent basis not named derrick rose? also his ankle could be bothering him who knows but he def hasnt lost it
0 - Posted on: Wed, 03/23/2011 - 8:39am #512811
yaboymalParticipantif you asked him to do the same dunks that he did in the all american dunk contest he could still do them, at least when hes in shape

Lotto StudParticipant"It bothers me that he looks so much bigger then he did in HS. Maybe he has lost athleticism by adding too much bulk."
Do you think he is up to 200+ also, because 183 is way off just by looking at him.

yaboymalParticipanthow and why are people so quick to call 18/19 year old kids overrated its a shame, grown @$$ men hating on a kid..everybody said the same thing about harrison barnes and I said be patient and wait hes still adjusting and now he coming to his own. Now all of you should do the same relax and watch selby grow into a good player by next year
0 - Posted on: Wed, 03/23/2011 - 8:43am #512814

HaleParticipantDefinitely. In high school he was pretty lean. Now he looks pretty bulky.

Lotto StudParticipant"Also he hasnt lost any of his athleticism he can still do the same dunks, one reason why you dont see him dunking like he did in highschool"
It was one game that definitely showed he lost his athleticism. I forgot who Kansas was playing, but Selby had a dunk on the fast break & he barely got up after the dunk he was hollering & pounding his chest if that helps you know which game I’m talking about.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 03/23/2011 - 9:52am #512832
yaboymalParticipantI know wich game your talking about but thats one play and you just dont lose your athleticism either it was injury or he put on to much weight and in game dunking is so much more different then the ones they show of him on youtube but ppl making it seem like its something to worry about. If he gets back into good shape and overcomes whatever naggin injuries he has he will be fine

abcdefghijklParticipantMost underrated in the Sweet 16 is Kevin Anderson of Richmond.

delfamParticipant^ except this thread is for the most "overrated" player

Lotto StudParticipantI honestly cannot believe Selby is shooting .374% from the 3…….It’s like everything he jacks up he misses. From the way he shoots you would think he is in the 20% range.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/27/2011 - 9:40am #514351

WizardofOzParticipantIs this the dunk you’re talking about memphis tyga?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/27/2011 - 9:53am #514360
The lake show2So theres never been a player who gained muscle mass, missed games, and still came in and played better than Selby?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/27/2011 - 9:59am #514368
Lotto StudParticipantYes that’s the dunk I am talking about. If I recall right he also caught a Sprite this year too.
I’m not hating on Selby, because actually he is 1 of my fav players in NCAA ball he reminds me of another 1 of my favs Bayless. So I know the potential is there.
