White ChocolateParticipantAfter doing some more re-search and even though it has been two weeks or so since my mock draft 3.0, I have listened to some advice and I hope you enjoy it, comments, constructive criticism, and advice is wanted!
1. Cleveland – Harrison Barnes
I had Kyrie Irving going here my past three mock drafts, but I think Barnes might be the better pick here for the Cavaliers. It has been reported that Cleveland is after Kyrie Irving and Harrison Barnes and either one would be a great pick for them. They have a hole at small forward and I give Barnes a slight nod over Irving right now, but that could change in the near future.
2. Minnesota – Kyrie Irving
They took Rubio last year I know, but they really haven’t convinced him to come play for them. If I remember right I believe that Rubio said something like he doesn’t want to play for the Timberwolves or something like that. Rubio could be traded for some nice assets if they drafted Irving, which would be the obvious pick here if he fell to #2. Irving and Love would be very nice together in Minnesota.
3. Sacramento – Derrick Williams
Williams would be a much better fit with Cousins than Sullinger would, that is why I put Williams here instead of Sullinger. Williams could spread the floor a little bit to give Cousins some more room in the paint and he would replace Landry since the Kings traded him. I would liek to see an Evans, Williams, and Cousins trio play together it would be fun to watch.
4. Washington – Jared Sullinger
The word is that the Wizards want Derrick Williams, but since he went #3 to the Kings here I think they would settle for Sullinger and to be honest I don’t believe it would be that much of a drop off if any. Sullinger would replace Blatche and he would play power foreard with McGee at center and with Wall running the point they would be exciting to watch, though I am not sure how good they would be.
5. Toronto – Perry Jones
I debated this pick for awhile, it was between him and Terrence Jones, though I think either player would be a good pick for them. The Raptors need a small forward so Jones would be a good pick here. He has nice height and him and Davis would be a nice duo at the forward position. Jones is a risky pick here and its either boom or bust with him.
6. Utah – Jimmer Fredette
Before you say anything, I know he would be a reach here and is probably not the BPA at #6. If you don’t think that the Jazz aren’t willing to reach for players in the draft think again. Last year did anybody think Gordon Hayward would go top 10 in the draft let alone lottery I know I sure didn’t. Fredette would be a great fit in Utah and they need a point guard for the future anyway. He isn’t undersized because he is 6-2 and maybe taller, Deron Williams whenever he came out measured at 6-2 3/4 in shoes and he is considered to have great height for a point guard.
7. Detroit – Enes Kanter
This is the easiest pick for me to put down right now. If Kanter did indeed fall this far at #7 to the Pistons they definitely would take him. He would be a great fit in Detroit and a front-court of Monroe and Kanter would not only be very good they would have one of the combined tallest tandem in the league. They could use a point guard, I think they would take Kemba Walker or Brandon Knight if Kanter wasn’t available here.
8. Cleveland – Kemba Walker
Since they decided to go with Harrison Barnes earlier and not a point guard named Kyrie Irving they need a point guard and right now at #8 it is between Walker and Knight. You can’t really go wrong with either one, but I chose Kemba right now because I think he would be a better fit for them and he is playing better than Knight right now. If the Cavs come out of the draft with Barnes and Walker they come out winners in my opinion.
9. Milwaukee – Terrence Jones
The Bucks would get a steal here at #9 if Jones fell to them here. They are going to need a small forward for the future and he would be the best value here compared to anybody available and who fits their needs best. With Jennings as his point guard Jones could be very good in the NBA and Milwaukee would instantly have their small forward of the future and they got it with the #9 pick.
10. Charlotte – Brandon Knight
Knight would be the pick here since the Bobcats are probably going to take a point guard in the draft. Whichever point guard between Fredette, Walker, and Knight fall to them here at #10 I think they take. In this scenario they would take Knight. He is taller than the other point guards and I think he would be a very nice point guard for Charlotte. Plus it is a good value pick especially for the #10 pick.
11. Golden State – Donatas Motiejunas
They need a center and even thought I am not sure if Motiejunas is a center at 7-0 he definitely has the height to be one in the NBA. Also a good value pick at #11. After learning behind Biedrins for a little bit I think Motiejunas could be a very good center in the NBA. They like lefties with their picks anyway and I am not sure who else could go here that would fit in and fill a need for Golden State.
12. Utah – Jan Vesley
After getting the point guard that they need, the Jazz next need is a small forward. If Vesley fell this far to #12 I think that they would be very lucky. Vesley has very good size for a small forward at 6-10/6-11 and Hayward could play shooting guard and Vesley would play small forward for the Jazz, great pick for them here.
13. Phoenix – Alec Burks
The Suns need a shooting guard and a small forward. Here I think it would be between Burks and Leonard. Burks fits Phoenix’s style better he would be a great slashing shooting guard for them in the future. Even though Nash won’t be there for much longer he could help out Burks to find his full potential. Not a bad pick for them here at #13 in fact if Burks was availble here I think he would be a great pick for them value wise.
14. Houston – Jonas Valanciunas
Yao is going to be gone before you know it and the Rockets need a center anyway. If Valanciunas really did fall this far to #14 Houston would be screaming for joy. He is projected to go in the top 10 and for some even the top five which might be a little high. Has nice height at 6-10 and is the type of center that the Rockets need and he fits in with them system wise. I think if he fell this far and the rockets took him he would be the steal of the lottery because you never know with second rounders being the steal of the draft.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantAgree with everything except for the Jazz taking Vesely, that would be good value at 12 but with Jefferson, Millsap, Favors and Okur they need wings.

White ChocolateParticipantIsn’t Vesley a small forward, if he is a power forward my bad I didn’t know.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantThe Jazz need snipers though, not another Kirilenko who makes it only 1 person on the court who can shoot treys (Harris is a horrible shooter). Before Barnes realized his college potential I thought he’d be a great fit with the Jazz at 6 but right now I’d say they should target Burks, Jimmer, T. Jones and Jordan Hamilton.

White ChocolateParticipantYou are right, even though it might not be the best pick I still think that the Jazz pick Jimmer Fredette with the #6 pick. If I switched Burks and Vesley would that be better because I was thinking about that.

sheltwon3ParticipantI had Utah taking Vesely too. CJ miles looks like their sg of the future. I think getting a younger cheaper version of AK is not a bad idea. I also think they will move Jefferson at some point in time.
I also think rather than take Jimmer high it is possible that they do a trade with Milwaukee unless the Bucks want Jimmer than Utah will have to take him 6.

thunderbear82Participantthe Jazz will not take Jimmer he doesn’t fit with them. But I could see the kings trade down for him, He would be absolutly perfect playing with tyreke.

DJ is playing great for the Cats and they need upfront help bad, Knight is a bad pick for them

JRdaFilipinoParticipantYou know now that I think of it…maybe Barnes would be a better pick for the Cavs than Irving. Do the Cavs need a point guard? Yes and No. But when you take a look at the roster who the hell are their small forwards?! I don’t even wanna look… Eyenga? Come on now. And if they did go with Barnes, chances are they still end up with a very good point guard (Fredette, Knight, Walker MAY still all be available) Who is still available to picked at the (projected) 8th pick was A LOT to do with who the Cavs take, assuming they win the 1st overall pick.
1. Harrison Barnes
8. Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker … Jimmer Fredette?
or
1. Irving
8. Terrence Jones or Perry Jones
Drafting Barnes and possibly landing Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker or even Jimmer Fredette seems like a 1st rd rookie tandem that could produce more right out the gate. Irving was my favorite college player when he was healthy and he is probably my favorite prospect.. what a tough choice its gonna be for the Cavs if they end up with the first pick.

JRdaFilipinoParticipantIf the Wolves select Irving what do you think they’ll do with Johnny Flynn?

SwatLakeCityParticipantThe Jazz can wait on Freddette. I know the Jazz are willing to take the risk and I am too as a Jazz fan but they can wait on him. Don’t be sold just because he beat Gonzaga and Wofford. He still has to beat Florida, and Butler or Wisconsin. And those teams will be even tougher than Gonzaga. Also Utah isn’t known for drafting to make the fans happy. They usually draft players that fit the team, to KOC fan support will come as long as the team is winning games. Besides they can always wait on Fredette unless Jimmer gets to the final four. But dont just assume that will happen. I’d much rather see the Jazz go with Terrance Jones at the sixth pick to fill out the wing and then pick Jimmer at twelve. Besides the Jazz don’t need a starting PG, they already have one in Devin Harris, he is doing just fine. All they need is a 6th man PG and a starting SF. This draft is filled with small forwards why not invest in a good small forward first and then select Jimmer at 12 and if by some odd reason he is not available then they can always go with Kemba Walker. Which to me is not that bad and who knows Kemba might even turn out better than Jimmer.
And I think that if Kanter is still available for Toronto at 5. They would go for him. How much longer do we have to see Bargnani start at Center when he should be playing the 4? Kanter would be much better pick than hoping and praying that Perry Jones is not a bust, which I think he is.
Why would the Warriors pick Montie to play Center. Even if he is 7ft, he is a clone of Bargnani. We all know how starting Bargnani at Center worked. Why would the Warriors do the same thing, if they already saw an example of it? That’s just dumb. The Warriors are rumored to be shopping Ellis in the offseason. Burks might be a good pick for the Warriors to replace Ellis.
Since Burks goes to the Warriors the Suns can pick Montie. He fills a need at the 4, and if he pans out he might be the next Pau Gasol. That would be the perfect replacement for losing Amare.
