I slept it over, I didn’t wanna write my opinion before thinking it over. I did. Here are my thoughts on everything

New York won this deal. The Knicks got two top 14 players in the NBA now. Yes, both aren’t the greatest defenders but Carmelo is a clutch scorer and a solid rebounder. Stoudemire is a great scorer and rebounder, and now? A leader. This is Amar’e’s team. I’m even more excited about Billups and Brewer. Billups should be able to bring leadership and someone who can control a offense and know when to slow it down. He also can post up on the smaller point guards still. Corey Brewer provides alot of upside. Why? He’s going from a losing team, to a winning team. I believe Brewer will come off the bench, but don’t be surprised if he’s a huge piece for this team.

The frontcourt is lacking a little bit, but between Amar’e, S. Williams,Turiaf and Balkman ( I think D’Antoni at least see if Balkman can get some PF PT) we are alright. The Knicks are bringing back Earl Barron, who did very well last time he was in the Knicks offense. If Barron can provide just 9 points and 6 rebounds? We are better off. I do feel like we are a better team then we was 24 hours ago.

I think having Corey Brewer really helps out the Knicks.  If they can get another big, like Earl Barron, that team will be complete.  The great part is by 2012, all the contracts but Melo’s and Stoudemire’s will be expired.  Meaning they can really make a run at Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or even Dwight Howard.  Then resigning Sheldon Williams, Chauncey Billups (as a backup), Corey Brewer, Turiaf, Walker, Rautins, Fields.  They can make a run at Lance Stephenson and Carlos Delfino with the MLE.

    Their lineup in 2012:

    • Toney Douglas, Chauncey Billups, Lance Stephenson
    • Landry Fields, Corey Brewer, Lance Stephenson Andy Rautins
    • Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Delfino, Bill Walker
    • Amar’e Stoudemire, Sheldon Williams
    • Dwight Howard, Ronny Turiaf, Earl Barron

Whether all that happens or not, the point is, the New York Knicks are in a position of power.

     The Knicks need a Defensive Minded Center;
I’d say look DeAndre Jordan’s way, Dwight Howard (Best Frontcourt in History?), or Kendrick Perkins who should really look elsewhere with the Celtics Big Three getting older.

If not, Chris Paul or Deron Williams is a must to land when the time comes.
This was a win for the Knicks and to get Corey Brewer is Great..

New York gave up a ton of assets but they got back the two best players in the deal. They traded potential for stars and thats always a great thing.

I still want the Knicks to make a run at someone like Battier, AK47 or Prince with their MLE if that is available. They could even look at maybe getting Jeffries back when he expires at Houston as he was a useful guy to have on the bench or other FA veterans like Grant Hill or even T-Mac who seems to have found some form and durability with Detroit recently.

Lol @ Amare being a great rebounder. He never averaged 10 rebounds per game despite being 6-10 and maybe the most athletic big man in the league and playing 36 minutes a night (often at center) for the Suns and Knicks, two teams that run like hell and get more shots up than anyone. Amare is a below average rebounder.

i just got one question: when did amare become great at rebounding?

i am a knick fan as well and i think he could easily get a lot more rebounds!

this season he is getting 8.6 a game. that is below his career average and fewer than elton brand, josh smith and even kris humphries but still good enough for 15th best in the league. so is he terrible at rebouding? no not really but a guy with his body and playing time should get a few more to be called a great rebounder right? maybe he is okay at it but thats about it…

Actually I will say that Amare does get key rebounds and a lot of times he runs the fast break which is why other teammates rebound numbers are high because the player running the fastbreak is rarely the rebounder.  Amare is not a banger though but the thing is you dont want him to be because you want him to be able to play more games and continue to use his skills and talent of offense and a few defensive possessions.

Imo amare is a good rebounder he just seems to be bad since there are high expectations of him. Hes 6’10, crazy athletic, and strong which leads me to beleive he should be getting around 12-13 rebounds per game. Hes only getting 8.6 which in this league is well above average, but just not what youd expect from him. Even chris bosh could get 11 rebounds per game last year.

If you  watch a lot of NBA games there are some rebounds that are just given to your because you are your teammates are close to the basket and the defense runs back.  The player normally known for rebounding tends to grab the board then passes it to the point guard who is right there who could have also rebounded the ball.  Amare doesn’t seem to get that many of these rebounds because he is running the floor.  He gets tough rebounds that makes you think he should have more in key situation but sometimes he ocassionally misses rebounds because he relies on his athleticism and not boxing out.  Amare could average 2 more rebounds if he worked on his technique which would put him about 10 a game

Landshark you are wrong because the media will find another story.  I am sure people though this way after Lebron and the decision but then the media whipped up Melo drama.  Next it will Utah and Deron Williams or Paul and New Orleans or Howard to NY or LA.  Howard will force a trade to LA after this year for Bynum and some picks and pieces lol.  That is the kind of story you can expect.  Remember Howard supposely missed his deadline to extend. Some of yall fall for these media game over and over again.  This is how they get paid.  They do not get paid to educate or be boring, they get paid to be entertaining and sometimes that means bending the truth or outright lying.

They will do whatever to get their story out first and get paid.  Sometimes there is some truth to what is going on by you have some people that try to be sensitive to fans emotions.  Maybe Howard does want to leave but does he really want to destroy fans in the process. It is a lose lose situation for players because one point you want to have some control over your life and the other part you want to make people happy eventually one of those things will have to give.

Their roster is certainly dramatically better now and their future is brighter with this trade. For starters, I think Fields is the guy who is a better fit for the current team than Gallinari or Chandler, so that’s the first positive in the Knicks perspective. He brings many different things to the table and is the type of scrappy player all great teams need.

Now, as for Carmelo, he gives the Knicks real relevancy, a second star player, which helps Amare because that means less attention on Stoudamire to basically be the savior. And he gives the Knicks another incentive for the top guys in the 2012 FA class to choose New York to take their services. At the end of the day, if you have an opportunity to trade role players for a star, you do it, if you have the pieces still on your roster to be competitive and build a legitimate team around that player, and the Knicks do. Nothing they gave up is unreplaceable. They are the winners here, and now can stake a claim to being on the Bulls/Magic/Hawks level.

The Knicks’ depth isn’t as much of a problem as people think, because D’Antoni doesn’t play many players. He plays with a short bench. Turiaf/Barron/Sheldon Williams is a good enough pair rotating at the 5/backup 4 spot. They all bring different things to the table, it’s servicable. With that said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them looking to trade one of these guys, or a Brewer, Carter, maybe even a Walker, and get some more quality depth at the PG and in the post. Their starting 5 is very competitve now with the top teams outside of the C position, and Turiaf is no pushover either. They have made improvements at 2 positions with this trade, PG and SF. All Knick fans should be very pleased with the trade.

I do think they will play Amare at the 5 and Carmelo the 4 occasionally, and I definitely don’t expect to see both of them off the court at the same time often. The smaller lineup may be something they go to at the end of games, but due to the complete lack of defense I don’t see them using that lineup on an extended basis.

Melo played at 4 under Coach K for Team USA but that was FIBA rules so it’s slightly different. I think the Knicks need to think long and hard about future moves, they have the two franchise players now about 6 months later than hoped but they have them and the roster needs to be constructed around them. Look at how Pat Reilly put a roster around his big threesome within weeks, the Knicks need to look to have a serious run next year not worry about 2012 FA’s like they did about 2010 FA’s for two whole years.

STAT and Melo’s years cannot be wasted they are paying them around $36 to $38 million combined next year so need to make it count not thinking about getting other guys in next summer.

Melo will generate a lot of revenue for the Knicks but a play off run is more important at the moment as for a team that size their underachivement has been huge.

Just keep Isiaah Thomas away from the team.

Melo played at 4 under Coach K for Team USA but that was FIBA rules so it’s slightly different. I think the Knicks need to think long and hard about future moves, they have the two franchise players now about 6 months later than hoped but they have them and the roster needs to be constructed around them. I stopped reading and immediately stopped taking this thread seriously when I read "Don’t be surprised if Brewer is a huge piece for this team."

Brewer averaged 8 points right now. Coming off the bench, he can be a nice defensive piece. Don’t be mad because your ASS team started him.

He can’t do anything but get outmuscled while TRYING to play D. There’s a difference between playing solid D and TRYING to play D.

8 points on the Wolves is nothing impressive. Lol. Especially when he airballs 2 jumpers and a layup per game. Mind you that he shoots horrible percentages while he is WIDE OPEN.

Is looking like potential trade bait. If they keep him he could bring some nice value and minutes off the bench, and if they trade him they can get something of value back. Either scenario, he’s a good piece to have.

That’s for Minnesota, a terrible team. Once he realizes he’s on a good team, he will show up. He should get PT and get more comfortable as the season grows.

I think he can be a nice contributor for the Knicks. You may disagree, that’s cool, but saying you didn’t take my post seriously is lame. Making a post about it is even MORE lame. Just so you know.

why isn´t brewer an important piece? he isn´t a great player i get it but how many better wing players do the knicks have on their bench? i would guess zero so that makes him the first wing of the bench and even if he is as bad as you say that is somehow important…

hope you could still follow me… and are you really surprised to see fan´s of a team overhype a player? i guess even gerald green would be hyped by someone if he was signed…

Amare is a average rebounder. And he should get more rebounds than he does but people have been saying that for years, its not gonna change so people need to just accept that he’s not gonna get any better at rebounding.  Someone on NBA tv made a good point about rebounding. "A good rebounder goes out of his area to get rebounds a average rebounder just rebounds in there area and doesn’t give that extra effort which is why guys like Jeff Green and Amare don’t rebound like people think they should while guys like Kevin Love,ZBo and Blake do"

I don’t like Brewer but i think he is a underrated pick up for the Knicks. He can get you double figures especially with the Knicks since there system over inflates you’re offensive ability and he is a good defender. As far as affording Jordan i think they could. The next cap is gonna be very interesting for them because of the Money that Amare and Melo are getting. And unlike in miami where the players took a pay cut instead of the max, Melo isn’t doing that he wants the Max even though taking less will help the Knicks get another player
