BKKnicksfanParticipantDuke baby!!!! We were #5 so it only make sense they move up to #1
I’m guessing: Duke, Kansas, San Diego St, Texas, BYU as the top 5

White ChocolateParticipantWhy would Kansas still be #1 after losing badly to Kansas St.? Ohio State at #3 after a loss too? San Diego Stae not moving up after all of those losses to the other teams?

llperez@cusinsfan, this late in the year i dont think 1 loss means auto matically moving around or falling. These teams prove it all year long in a tough conference. As for san diego state, im giviing them their props by putting them at #6, but their only top 25 win this year was vs saint marrys and saint marrys just went 0-2 this week so theres goes san diegos biggest victory. Now there biggest win on the year is probably unlv or gonzaga neither of whom are probably gonna make the tournament.

llperezdont know, dont feel like doing research. But if the number 1 team losses and the number 2 team losses and the number 3 team losses and the number 4 team losses all in the same week, then its highly possible the number 1 team keeps there spot. I think the voters put too much emphasis on what teams do week by week. That makes sense early in the year when you have less then 20 games under your belt, but this late in the season, you are entitled to a bad game every once in a while and the teams behind you all struggle then i dont beleive in the theory that a loss equals automatic drop all the way down until you find the next highest team who didnt lose which in this case is the number 5 seed. If you step back and look at resumes, duke does not have a better resume then kansas.

As of right now? Yes, but if Michigan St and Kansas St rebound, could be closer. As for the #1 thing, I feel if you lose, you drop. Yes, the top 4 teams losing is rare, but it shouldn’t change anything. Kansas lost to a unranked team and should not be #1 going into next week. Ohio St should drop below 6, Texas is up in the air because it was a home lost to a unranked team as well. Pittsburgh lost to a team that should be ranked.
You lose, you drop. Really shouldn’t change no matter what time of the season

llpereztake a team like sd state, they keep winning. BUt they dont have one win against anybody who is gonna be even mentioned as a top 25 team tommorow. So would you take their 1 loss record over a team like kansas or ohio states 2 loss record simply becasue those teams lost this week and sd state didnt? To me rankings should be about finding the 25 best teams who have the best overall resumes and rank them accordingly. Recent wins do have a greater impact, but they dont override a few months of games.

BKKnicksfanParticipantSD State has only one loss, but noone has contended them to be a top 5 team in the nation. The rankings are just week by week and when you lose, you drop. I understand the top 25 teams but then you would have to throw record out the window. Plus, there are teams in other conferences, like non-BCS conference who should get respect.
Looking at the resume, Duke and Kansas’ aren’t that far apart

llperezwell i was going by your list that had sd state #3. As for duke and kansas, no their resume isnt far off although i do think the big 12 is better then the acc. But since i have htem 1 and 2, im going by the overall season, not just this week. Usually when a team falls after losing its casue there is another team right on their tails who wins, duke is a few spots back and the beating st johns put on them was not that long ago.

BKKnicksfanParticipantTrue but you have Kansas #1 and thier beatdown was this past week. Duke lost almost 3 weeks ago (Jan 30). I agree, the Big 12 is better then the ACC. Like I said before, Duke has alot of waiting to do.
Butler Oregon Kansas St, Michigan St, Marquette and Temple can all be solid additions to poentially two wins over UNC, Virgina Tech and a ACC title.

McWinningParticipantDuke has one top 25 win, And their schedule is so overrated, their just not an elite team without Irving.
Honestly i think its Ohio State, they have plenty of high quality wins, Brigham Young, and Kansas should be in the discussion too.

The lake show2I don’t think Duke is gonna jump four spots. I may be wrong but i just don’t see it because off the top of my head i don’t think a team has dropped or jumped 4 spots so high int he rankings after losing or winning one game. My guess is they jump to number 3 or two with Kanas probably staying at one Since the Big 12 is a stronger conference than the ACC.
I think Duke,Kansas and Texas have all lost to unranked teams. Ohio st is the only team that hasn’t. I wouldn’t have a problem if Duke were to be ranked number one though.I don’t agree with the if you lose you drop though because that would put Duke one, San Diego 2 and who ever else won would jump ahead of the losing teams as well

GrandmamaParticipantRegardless of who the writers put at no.1, I think Duke is the best team in the nation. Nolan Smith has become a beast. I like Ohio St. at no.2.
What’s the latest on Kyrie?

Ghost01ParticipantDuke will be number 1. And they have a great shot at the No.1 overall seed. They probably have MAX 1 more loss and a cakewalk conference tourney.
