MkadozaParticipantNets agreed to a trade with the Nuggets, offering Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh, and 4 first rounders for Anthony, Billups, Ely, Balkman, and Williams. Its contingent on Anthony signing his contract extention.
The Knicks have upped the trade to a choice of Fields or Gallinari, Chandler, Curry, and Felton and a first round pick for the same package from Denver.

MkadozaParticipantThe Nets would depend on free agency for Carmelo’s entire prime or find Landry Fields’s every year. The Knicks are depending on getting Paul in free agency. I think, I hope Carmelo is worth it. But its giving up a bit.
Honestly? Gallianri. Someone has to defend right? Gallinari is the second tallest, third heaviest player on the team and he’s not great man to man. He’s got quick hands and contests on the weakside, but he’s not quick. He has good offensive repertoire, but Melo replaces him.

butidonthavemoneyMost of the picks they are giving up aren’t their own. Remember you can’t trade your own first round pick two years in a row.
I used to like Gallinari a lot, but I think the Knicks would be better off with Fields. He’d fit in great with Paul/Williams, Melo and Amare. That’s an Eastern conference upper-echelon team easy.

Meditated StatesParticipantI wish this deal would go down. Yawning on this sh!t. Dude wants to go to bellow or 500. teams and leave a team that could compete if he gave them 100%. Melo lost a fan right here. I don’t get it. He says "I just want to win" not true cuz what he wants makes no sense.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI would have to assume that the Knicks would rather part with Gallo. He’s a good shooter and a nice third option but he plays the same position as Mello and doesn’t offer the perimeter defence of Fields.
Also keep in mind he would count for 5.5 million against the cap in the 2012-2013 (under the current bargaining agreement) much more than what Fields would probably be earning and if NY wants to go after CP3 or Deron in 2012 they are gonna need to keep a large bit of cap space available.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think moving Gallo over Fields would be better move even though Gallo is the better player. Fields is that perfect glue guy and with Amare, Melo and Billups, you need a guy like that. Also if Knicks can get a defensive 5, they would not be a terrible defensive team if they had a good defensive concept. Billups could possibly mentor Douglas who reminds me of a younger Billups before he became the player he was now and in Detroit. Douglas is already a better defender though. Williams and Walker would get more minutes. After this trade the only thing they would need is more front court help which is the same issue they have now. They could draft a point guard in the draft late since most teams dont need a point and Knicks could buy a late 1st round pick to grab a Nolan Smith or Kemba Walker.

"Fields is that perfect glue guy"
Perfectly said, I couldn’t have said it better myself. He just has that "it" factor that makes him such a great glue guy.

bigballinjdgParticipantI think the nuggets are stupid if they do the knicks trade!!! The nets trade is much better with the 4 first round picks and the potential of Favors. Gallo is weak, Chandler will be a FA and Feltons stock is overhyped in the Dantonis system. What do you guys think?

NYCrealdealParticipantits a no brainer u gatta keep fields.
when galo doesnt hit 3 or get to the stripe it affects his D.
fields will just keep improving hed bring fire to a team with cp3 melp amare with put back dunks and be a very good defensive pressense.
fields three point shot will only get better.
but i woudnt mind keeping galo he gets to the stripe and hits 3’s. plays solid D
Lets Get This Done Walsh!!!!!

MkadozaParticipantFrom what I can gather, all Carmelo wants now, especially after the passing of his sister, is be close to family. You have to think that losing a sibling would refocus your priorities. He wants to be a Knick, or be in New York. Liek Mike Francecsa says, never underestimate the appeal of going home. And since B-More doesnt have a team, and family is still in teh City, he’s just using whatever leaverage he has to be happy.

NYK2010ParticipantFeltons stock is overhyped no he actually has a role in a real offense not whateva Larry Brown had him do. Felton is a bulldog not an old PG in Billups. Banking on getting Chris Paul isn’t a guarantee I’d rather the Knicks go after a big man than try and improve at PG. BTW Gallo isn’t weak he’s improved taking less 3’s and getting to the line more, granted he’s not a star player. Chandler is a FA but he still have plenty of value, as he can play multiple positions.

HitsterParticipantIf the Knicks did get Billups they may well be tempted to buy out his contract or use him as a trade bait. I don’t see why Denver wants Felton when they have Lawson as a possible long term PG and even if they traded Felton on they would have to assume more guaranted salary for him for next season.
I still think the Knicks should not desciminate their roster unless Anthony was very likely to sign the extension and go elsewhere as they can probably get him in the summer as an FA.

sheltwon3ParticipantBillups would work well for New York but long term he is not the answer. Douglas or someone in the draft may be the answer. They could also trade for Sessions.

joecheck88ParticipantIf I am NY, I stay put. Melo may come during the summer and if he doesn’t, you just keep building through the draft and add free agents. Maybe make a trade in the off season for someone not as hyped as Melo like maybe Iggy(just an example). You are a playoff team this year and you have a first round pick this year. Get another player that can contribute and grow as a team. And if Melo does come in the summer you still have these pieces to make a trade for someone else next season.

knicksfreakParticipantThe knicks shouldnt do this deal if they have to trade Gallo or Fields.
Gallo’s repetoire has vastly improved this season with his commitment to getting into the paint. He has gotten stronger and smarter this season. The knicks should also try to keep as many 3-point threats as possible.
Fields is young and solid in all aspects of the game. He possesses many intangibles such as tenacity, a nose for the ball, and the ability to make big plays at crucial times.
If Melo really wants to be a Knick he can veto the trade to the nets and wait until the offseason.
