I know its still early, but if the wolves dont get screwed in the lottery again we should get a top 3 pick. Who do you think we should take?

    • Jared Sullinger- plays the same position as our best player
    • Perry Jones- plays PF also (tall enough to play center but only 220 pounds)
    • Kyrie Irving- We saw what Rubio did last time we picked a PG high
    • Harrison Barnes-is a SF and we play Beasley there and also Wes Johnson
    • etc

You see we have some dilema there. Everyone loved Barnes before the year, but now i have read alot of scouts say they dont think he will be a franchise type player anymore. What do you think about drafting Irving and then trading the valuable rights of Rubio?

If your Minnesota, I don’t understand why you don’t grab Richard Hamilton. He’s perfect, installs some leadership and your gonna get his best seasons (looking to prove DET wrong for the rest of this season, plus contract year next year)

With Rubio, I say move him but you have to get a 1st round pick and a player back.

As for the draft, I’m going Irving. Flynn is a good backup PG.

Its a difficult situation for Minnesota this year because the team has a large group of players who have not gotten the developmental oppurtunities they deserved and always get high draft picks. So they have great depth with unpolished talent. What they need is a versatile 2 gaurd who can defend. Best thing they can do is draft a guy like Perry Jones or Harrison Barnes who can fill a bunch of roles they need filled from off the benchm trading the pick wouldnt be a bad idea either, just so they can get a real talented 2 gaurd in place. Maybe a guy like Burks can take his team Colorado to the Tournament and impress some people, Fredette could also fit in well on that team if given a Stephen Curry type role where he can shoot at will, trading down should be easy in this draft due to the difference at talent between 1-5 and 5-15.

I think they should choose Enes Kanter. He’s big enough to play center and him and Love I think would be the best rebounding tandem in the NBA.

You go after Irving or Kanter really. Kanter will play Center, and he is a bull and is bigger/stronger than his Darkness, so no bones there. Ultimately, you take Irving and trade Rubio. I have no idea what is going on with Johnny Flynn, know he is coming back from injury, but my guess is that he is not the All-Star they thought he might be. Flynn is a good player, but Irving is better. The problem of course is that Flynn has very little trade value. The plan? Play him significant minutes the rest of the year and trade him in the off-season. Now, the only real untouchable on the Wolves right now seems to be Kevin Love. Beasley seems to be some what of a keeper, and I like Wesley Johnson’s upside. They are completely overstocked at wing, though they could upgrade, but I think they should stick to a 1 or a 5. I think even if they get screwed, the odds are they will still get a player who can help them team in the near future.

The big thing with the Wolves is that it appears Rubio has no interest in playing in Minnesota. He also has not really done much for his trade value by getting a job at Home Hardware in the brick department. Still, he has something to him, and they should be able to trade him for depth and a pick to some team more to his liking. Lame deal, but regardless, you either stick with Flynn and see if he picks it up, or start over with Irving, who will likely be better than Rubio anyway. If you go post, than Kanter and Love should be an interesting combo. Kanter is a lot like Love, which is good and bad. The good part is that he is a versatile offensive player who can bang in the low post and grab boards. The bad is, his defense is not exactly top notch and it is a wonder as to whether he will be able to guard Center’s in the NBA. Nonetheless, with Darko as a back-up to Kanter, I actually like the Timberwolves front court. Who knows if the Wolves finally strike up a top 3 pick, but either way they should be an improved team if they draft the right player. Irving and Kanter would be two people that could help right away.

I actually like that idea of drafting Irving and trading away Rubio’s rights, possibly Minny could get another top 5 draft pick for him in this years draft. Heck if the Raptors got the 4th overall pick I’d trade it for Rubio.

Kahn seems pretty dilusional that Rubio is coming to Minny though so you never know.

Perry Jones could be a Jonathan Bender type minus the J

I am not really sure what the Wolves will do.  It will be their luck this year to get the number 1 pick in a draft where there is no player with superstar potential.  I have always liked the idea of drafting Kanter or Irving (with the assumption we would trade away Rubio’s rights).  I think that if we do draft Irving and trade Rubio, we should trade him for an unprotected first rounder in the 2012 draft from a team that will more than likely be in the lottery (the Kings come into mind).

I have season tickets for the Wolves, and I’m pals with a few of the people under Kahn, so I see/hear my fair share of the Wolves.

Drafting Irving seems to be the most plausible action at this time, and then after that we would have to do something along the lines of trading Rubio for a veteran player and a future top-5 pick, and then seeing what we can get for Flynn.  Ridnour is someone the Wolves see as a mainstay in the organization, and a player to possibly mentor Irving or Rubio(whoever we decide to go with) for years to come.

Then again, if we decide to go with a big guy, or a combo-4 like Jones III, there has been some talk of going with a small lineup(even this season) and using a more fast-paced offense. If we took Perry, and Rubio actually comes over(which Kahn thinks is going to happen for sure..for some odd reason..) the lineup would look like this:

PG- Rubio (bench of Ridnour, and Flynn if he’s still in ‘Sota)
    SG-Johnson (Ellington, Brewer)
    SF-Beas (Webster)
    PF-Perry Jones III (Tolliver)
C-Love (The Dark One, Pekovic, Koufos)

I, for one, would welcome the change of pace on offense. But still, this team wouldn’t be able to play defense for more than 5 minutes at a time..

Irving at the Point would be pretty hard to pass up on knowing that he has the potential to be one of the best playmakers in the League someday, but we are kind of stuck not knowing what position to go for in the draft until the Rubio chip falls.

Ultimately, this team is so young.. Who knows what they will look like next year. I’m just hoping we can bring in some veteran leadership to teach some of our younger plays important nuances of the game, hopefully improve our team with the upcoming draft, and end this post-KG rebuilding stage that has lasted too long.

Either Irving, incase Rubio never comes over, or Kanter to replace Darko. Darko’s not a bad center but I’d rather have Kanter.

@Darkooo, starting Love at center is a big mistake. He is a great player don’t get me wrong but he is best played at the 4. If you play him at Center you will be dominated on the inside night and night out.

I agree, he’s too small to defend basically all Centers, but rebounding wouldn’t be a problem.

We’ve gone with a smaller lineup at certain points this season and it has worked out really well. Defensively, it isn’t the best lineup, but it is a big lineup through-and-through. Jones(6’11), Beas(6’9), Love(6’9), Wes(6’8), Rubio(6’4). That team has some size and some length, so in a running-style offense, I don’t see a problem with that. And defensivley, the length would be able to compensate for Love’s lack of it.

We’ll see what we end up doing. I’m excited either way.

Rebounding isn’t all thats important for Centers though. You also gotta block shots and defend the inside. (Defending the inside is the main bulk of it.) Love, because of his size, and lack of defense would just get madhandled there. You would get killed on the inside every night. Yeah great for offense, but horrible on defense.
