Grant Hill made the All Star game in his rookie year and so technically is Blake Griffin.

He wasn’t a starter but was voted in by the coaches.

I don’t think there’s been another rookie who’s been voted in as the starter.

Joewolf is right, Jordan was an All-Star starter his first year, unsurprisingly.

It’s a little funny that Mr Chicago didn’t know that apparently haha.

Shaquille O’Neal was an all-star starter as a rookie too.

He started and was voted in for sure. Actually, go here:

This shows all of the votings for the NBA All-Star game since voting has taken place. Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal were all voted in as rookies. Here are other rookies who have made the team:

Voting for All-Star’s started in 1975, and despite what people seem to think about it, it is usually not as horrible as people think. Yeah, Yao Ming probably should not have been voted in his rookie year, but he became an All-Star caliber player. Iverson and McGrady should not have made it a few times they did or came close, but they were both All-Star caliber players as well. Not to mention, with Yao Ming’s injury, it freed up a spot that otherwise would have gone to a Center that was more than likely not deserving. Luckily, it went to Yao and gave a much more deserving player a chance to be an All-Star, rather than say, Andrew Bynum (Andrew is good, but it would have been a travesty if he had made it this year). Now, as for your claim that China would vote you into the All-Star game, you better hope to be better than Yi Jianlian. Yi almost made the team when he was on the ballot, but in the end he did not. I think this is one of the years where fan voting caused very little controversy, and in the end made the All-Star game or any snubs therein completely up to the coaches and the commisioner. For the most part, I think their is very little to gripe about with the selections. Good luck getting people from China to like you though!
