jjonzParticipantTalking about GM’s/Owners who wasted a star players Prime. Cuban has tried but failed to land a Young Stud to help alleviate pressure from Dirk. Dirk is HOF material, but letting Nash go because he was old was the worst mistake, they tried to replace him with DHarris & now JKidd. Cuban signs old end-of the- road vets & gives them max $$. i.e E.Dampier/BHaywood. After that Heat collapse they should have let $$ dry up save money & then target a young player that could help Dirk as he enters the end stage of his career. Same thing in Clevland, D.Gilbert failed Lebron by giving L.Hughes $$ and not getting a quality side kick. So when players find a team & owner willing to make moves that will lead to a ring go for it.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantSometimes a team can blow it in the draft..Think about it ,in 2004 the Cavs could’ve had Al Jefferson,Kevin Martin or Josh Smith..But instead they chose Luke Jackson…

kaceyParticipantI don’t think all the blame goes on the owners or even the GMs. Sometimes players just don’t pan out. I thought Larry Hughes would have been able to capitilize and really get his career to another level with LBJ.
Dirk is a unique player. He doesn’t rely on crazy athleticism to play his game. The Mavericks’ window of opportunity still has some years left, but like you said they have to get that young, primary scorer on board. Dirk as a 2nd option 2-3 years from now, would be very dangerous.

HitsterParticipantMark Cuban has spent a fortune on trying to bring success to Dallas allowing his GM Donnie Nelson to give out generous deals unlike other owners like Kroenke and Sarver who want to win yet try to cut costs and when their franchise player walks or is likely to walk away they wonder why.
Cleveland did not manage to land a really major FA when LeBron was there, or even a really top level running mate. Shaq was 37 years old when he joined, Jamieson was 34 years old and whilst still a good performer wasn’t a near all star or an all star sidekick. Look at the Lakers, Kobe has Gasol,Bynum,Artest and Odom give LeBron that back up and you’d have a team that would go near to the Chicago 72 wins record.

jjonzParticipantit’s not just $$$ spent but how it is spent that’s the issue. Guy come on the last year of his current contract & puts up 12ppg&10 rebs in that short time frame and you give him 55mill. I mean you have to make the right choices.

jjonzParticipantThere was no rebuilding plan 2 years after Shaq was traded to Miami, Kobe toiled for 2 years, with a subpar cast. Smush @ PG/K.ButterFingers Brown@ Center. But they got it right & won 2 chips. Thats how you take care of your SuperStars.
