Just don’t know how much better he can  get. On the block he is limited, not good when opposing players talk about your game to the media. Big Baby, "I’ve been playing against him since AAU & he has the same moves." KG, "He is very  limited on the block." Regardless of the time spent with Hakeem he is limited in the post. Spin Lob/Drop Step Dunk, he has been using glass lately but his shot still looks tight. I say give this team one more shot & then trade him for value @ the deadline or before he leaves & The Magic get nothing. 22&12 this year is great if he could be a 2nd option. & 18&13 is good for his Career, he is a 2/3rd option @ best. So he can eye LA or NY all he wants but they better have a SuperStar in place. I just don’t see how he can Lead a team to a ring.

Have you watched Dwight Howard at all this season?  His moves are much improved and even if you’ve only seen one game, (today) He put a couple of moves on Kendrick Perkins that left Perk pretty lost.  He was scoring at will on Glen Davis when he was trying to guard him.

You want them to trade their 25 year old franchise player?  The same player that is the best center in the league?  2 or 3rd option at best?  Are you serious?  So you’re saying his average option would be about 4th or 5th?

Dude… do you have any knowledge about basketball at all?

      A young Shaz # 29ppg/11rebs/2blk/3asst

      A young Hakeem 23/11brds/3 blks/3assts

      DRobison @  age 24 24ppg/12rebs/4blks/2assts

      DHoward @ age 23& 24 21/14 rebs 1asst    age 24 18/13 rebs 1assts.

His Game and # compare to a Stronger More Powerful albeit, less skilled version of A.Mourning 21/10rebs/3blks/1assts

He is a 2nd fiddle at best can help a team to a ChampionShip not be the main option, but he’s not Shaq/Hakeem/DRob

If the Magic get the right player he could help a SuperStar get a ring. But how do you complement his game Strong wing scorer.   PG does not matter on offense, because he’s not pick & pop guy.

Plus all of this fuss about DHoward, who is he really playing against on @ nightly basis. @ the C position. You guy’s r funny. Top 5 player in the L. Wrong. Look @ his low assts # does that say he’s a playmaker out of the C position.

      He is Alonzo Mourning.

By the way, in the last 20 years.  The only players to average 22+ppg, 13.5+rpg, 2+bpg:

    • 99-00 Shaquille O’Neal, ’00 NBA MVP
    • 03-04 Kevin Garnett, ’04 NBA MVP
    • 92-93 Shaquille O’Neal, ’93 Rookie of the Year
    • 10-11 Dwight Howard

You see how rare it is?

He is not Shaq though. He had 22 in the 1st half against the C’s and then Perk and Big Baby hold  him to 6 in the second half. He can be really taken out of a game. Shaq was always a factor in his prime they applied hack a Shaq because of it. Dwight can be controled enough that you don’t have to even apply hack a Shaq rules. He has improved, but he is not consistent with any of it.

Dwight still has a way to go offensively, but to say that he is a 2nd or 3rd option AT BEST is a slap to the face!

He doesn’t have to be Shaq offensively. He’s a better rebounder and defender than Shaq was and is still the leading center in the league ins scoring. He is one of the 5 best players in the league right now and is an anchor on both ends of the court.

Trade him? Unless the Magic are absolutely convinced that he won’t resign with us as we approach the trade deadline next year we shouldn’t even entertain the notion.

There is only one player in the world capable of 40-20 games. He is in my opinon undisputedly the 2nd most valuable asset in the NBA. And i LOVE Rose and Durant.

wow guess i have to rethink this post & look closely @ his game.  Not that i don’t like DHoward, i think he is a great player, but @ the end of the game can i give him the ball & go take a Nap (meaning game is over he’s going to take over). With the aforementioned players Shaq/DRob/Dream i knew they had go to games with moves that would result in + plays for their team. With DHoward I don’t have that same feeling. Also, if had the #1 pick in the same draft i would take DHoward over any other player that came out. The problem was not putting enough Quality players around him.Drafting Fran "Never played 1 Minute in the NBA" Vazquez.  They passed on DGranger, so that was a mistake. I admit he is a Star More like A.Mourning/PE big man, but he needs other stars around him, they got to the finals on guy’s having Career years in Hedo/R.Lewis. & On that Subject that was another 118 million dollar mistake by this team.

DHoward Can win with a Dominant wing & other complimentary players. But to be the 1 guy for a championship team is asking for to much, IMO.

Dwight as a defensive, rebounding force is potentially up there with the very best, okay he’s not a Shaq, Hakeem or David Robinson type scorer that they were at their peak and he may never be but few players are. But he has proven he can be a 20ppg plus player which with all his defensive and inside presence makes him clearly the best C in the NBA at the moment and one of the very top frontcourters playing at the moment.

The guy is still only 25 years old so he has numerous years in front of him and if you asked any top NBA analyst which player you would want to build a team around apart from LeBron then I bet his name would be near the top.

How do you build around DHoward. And Most analyst don’t get paid to run a team so they just have opinions just like us. Ask Any GM who they would build around probaly say KD or Rose or some ball dominant Guard/Wing that can win a game for them like DWade did for the Heat. And 25 is young outside of the NBA, but there is no upside to guy who’s 25 & older that GM’s are talking about. So if he enter’s his prime now & for the next 5-6 years barring injury this is what you get 24ppg/13-14rebs/2-3blks/1assts. Great # but even greater if you get him a Stud on the roster. They made a gamble to try & please him by signing RLewis for a Billion dollars, that was a disaster, they could have save$ for 2010 made a run @ RGay or some similiar Wing and then resigned Howard. So he could have someone to grow with. But that is neither here nor there. My point is get him a Stud & then see what he could do. Great # but i reiterate he is not a 1st option player. Sorry.

He was held to 6 in the second half because Boston decided to double team him instead of the single coverage they used in the first half.

    Shaq

    David

also didnt win alone. Shaq has kobe,Wade

    David had Duncan

Didn’t MJ,Kobe,Paul P get better after 25?…Players tend to get better after 25 and even better after 28,29 because they can’t just use there athletic ability all the time and have to use more skill,Mind. Players say Kobe and Jordan were at there best once they were older and couldn’t fly as much.

Also Paul P,Clyde Drexler couldn’t win without having a very good big man. It goes both ways for the most part a big man needs a wing and a wing needs a big man

Love is capable of getting 40 n 20 and will probably get it at some point this season.

And I’ve always compared Howard to a more dominant Alonzo Mourning too before I would compare him to Shaq, or The Admiral.

But this post is retarded Howard is still the best Center in the world and it’s not even close.  He will be the only legitimate Center at the All Star game to give you an idea of how big the gap is.  And why in the world would the Magic trade their franchise player who is 25, and is the best at his position in the entire world?  I kinda get your point about scoring but they Magic have Arenas, Richardson, Meer Meer, and Hedo to score that is why they brought in Arenas and Richardson.

And I love how a player like Big Baby wants to talk ish.  Like dude you been guarding him since high school and claim he has the same moves still but yet you still can’t guard him whats that say about you.’

And Howard has been scoring at a way higher clip this year and has visibly improved his low post arsenal.

Top 5 Center. Are there 4 other Center’s I am Missing in the World. There are no big men in the Next 2 drafts, Or in the NBA period. Next Best is a 7’0 Center who avg 6 rebs. So that’s a moot point. "Retarded" should not be included in this post just like calling someone a ni*&(. But I’ve made my assestment based on # and what I see.

Heres something interesting i didn’t think of before. Howard attempts 10 shots per game for his career. Do you know how many Shaq and David Robinson attempted for there career?  16 and 14.

Most in a season  21 by Shaq and 20 By David. Howard?..13 this year. The Magic guards tend to wanna shoot alot which is why he doesn’t get alot of attempts which explains why his ppg isn’t higher. I bet if you look at all the other big men you listed, they would have higher attempts as well

@jionz- You don’t think it would be easy to build around Howard? Really man?? Even Phil has said Dwight would be one of the best players in the league to build around. You can find someone to score the ball, and wing players are a dime a dozen in the NBA. Just look at the Magic’s roster… Without Howard, they would be the Cavs 2.0; Just a bunch of overpaid role players who can’t play defense.. Howard is the biggest reason they have been competitive.

Prime for basketball players is 26-28. It is not 23,24, or 25… He is still pretty young, and he is still developing. It doesn’t matter who how he compares to past centers because they don’t even play anymore, and his value isn’t determined by that. The competition he has at the C position is what determines his value the most, and he is the best center in the league by a good margin even if he isn’t fully developed offensively. Even if he isn’t known for his low post moves, he still can get you 18-20 points efficiently and without the need of running plays for him.  His precense on the floor changes the game entirely.

A lot of top players especially big men win their MVP awards or first titles when they are older than 25 years old, MJ was 27/28 when he won his first title in 1991, Shaq was 28 when the Lakers won in 2000. KG, Tim Duncan and Dirk were all MVPS in their late 20’s.
