Lotto StudParticipantI haven’t been following UCLA basketball, but I just turned to the game vs St. John’s & couldn’t help but notice there bigman Josh Smith. I don’t know much about Smith, but looking at him he reminds me of a Big Baby type of player.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantYeah, Smith has a chance to be a 1st rounder next year and a Lottery pick in 2 years,if he continues to work on his game…..Dude Got Skills

HitsterParticipantHe’s got a decent skillset for such a big guy, I’d agree that he spends another year at least with UCLA to help to continue improving his conditioning and maybe trim down a few pounds. Big Baby has certainly benefitted in his NBA career since he shed some poundage from his College days. Joshua is probably never going to be a 270lbs guy but he can retain a lot of his bulk and strength and still improve his conditioning and muscle mass quite a lot.

aarondsonixfanParticipantJosh went to Kentwood, which was my school’s rival school. (I went to Kentridge). Josh was easily the most dominant presence because of his height and bulkyness. He has EXTREMELY good hands. He can seriously catch just about anything. He can finish, but, like most big man, was a poor free throw shooter. I watched Josh play for 3 years, and I definitely question his work ethic. He never ran. He always walked up the court and what not and I just don’t know if he will work hard enough to play at the next level. I think he will turn out, like most people compare him to, to be like an Eddy Curry type of player. I really want to see his game jump to the next level, but i guess we can only wait to see how that goes. BTW, watch out for Gary Bell next year when he goes to Gonzaga. This kid is INCREDIBLE.. IMO better than Tony Wroten

B FreeParticipantI think you see Glen Davis because they are both fat but he is 6’11 and not as quick, Davis was surprisingly quick and athletic when he was bigger, he also doesn’t have the short jumper down yet the Glen had. He is more like a higher ceiling Dexter Pittman. If he can lose 20-25lbs he can be a lottery pick in a year or two.

B FreeParticipantTo aarondson Im a ZAGs fan I’m wondering if he is a SG or PG because Wroten has good size for either spot but the have at 6’2 185 sg.

mikeyvthedonParticipantShows a lot of promise. I do not know if he and Baby are all that similar in anything other than frame, but they both show soft touches for big guys. Smith is definitely taller and longer, but he still needs to work on conditioning, like Baby has done to a tee in the NBA. On the plus side, he looks like he is in much better shape than he was entering college, and at times he has been unstoppable down low. Hopefully he stats at UCLA for another year or two, just to be as prepared as possible before playing his first game in the NBA. He has great hands though, and looks like a cool big man prospect. Wow, not sure that should have been a flagrant foul on Honeycutt, I felt like he slowed down a lot. If anything, it should just have been a shooting foul and shown people that you should not slow down even when you think no one is near you. UCLA has underachieved big time this year, but if they put things together, they are a very talented team with a bunch of players who should have basketball in their futures after college. Honeycutt and Smith are locks for the NBA in my opinion, and Reeves Nelson/Malcolm Lee both have shots. Reeves is a pretty nice player who is tough, though you would like to see more consistency, and Lee falls in the same boat.

ilike.panochasParticipantHe’s a first round prospect right now in my eyes. He’s better than Daniel Orton who went in the 1st.

B FreeParticipant^^^^I like Honeycutt alot he is my first SG in this draft then Alec. Honeycutt looks like someone streched out Deron Williams.

BKKnicksfanParticipant"He’s a first round prospect right now"
He’d be Oliver Miller in the NBA right now. He needs another season or two to work down the lbs and even then, work on those post moves and draw fouls at a NBA level to be a lotto pick. He’s nimble, but slow. He needs more time.

ilike.panochasParticipantTell that to the GMs that drafted BJ Mullens, Daniel Orton, Kosta Koufos and other raw, and big sized centers that goes in the 1st. GMs are enamored with size + youth + potential and Josh Smith has that.
