Tongue-out clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about or much about the Bulls. If the Bulls wants to win it all, they need a SG who can score. Bogans/Brewer can’t do anything on offense, both are great on defense but can’t find the bottom of the net. I guess it’s such a bad idea that multiple sports columnists/reporters have written articles on the same situation….
Shooting guards Jackson and Mayo on Bulls’ radar
Longtime coach O’Neill thinks Jackson would be good complement to Rose
December 28, 2010|By Around Town | Fred Mitchell and David Kaplan
NBA sources tell us the Bulls are one of the most aggressive teams in the NBA trade market as they try to find a scoring guard who is a good fit with All-Star point Derrick Rose.
USC coach Kevin O’Neill, a longtime college head coach and NBA assistant has experience with Stephen Jackson and O.J. Mayo, both of whom reportedly on the Bulls radar.
"Jackson is a better shooter and probably is a better fit alongside Rose," O’Neill said. "Mayo is more of a slasher and wants the ball in his hands to take it to the basket, which takes the ball out of Rose’s hands. (That’s why) Jackson is probably a better complement to Rose." http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2010-12-28/sports/ct-spt-1229-around-town–20101228_1_bulls-radar-bulls-logo-coat-drive
Now all they need is a closer — distinctively at Shooting Guard.
A name floating around much more so than others is O.J. Mayo, whose existence with current Memphis Grizzlies has all but come to a halt, seeing a diminished role every season since he was drafted and traded to the Grizzlies.
His numbers has decline due in part to others’ increased roles, specifically Marc Gasol (C), Mike Conley (PG), Rudy Gay (SF) and Zach Randolph (PF).
Three who can score; one can create for others, and none give up as much on the defensive end as does OJ Mayo.
So you ask, is he obtainable? What does he bring to the Bulls?
One, I think he is obtainable and just what Bulls need in terms of a soon-to-be Superstar. Secondly, he brings stability to the off-Guard position, scoring, plus youth and familiarity to Bulls budding Superstar: Derrick Rose.
However (yeah, yeah) you have those whom appear disengaged since it requires swapping actual tangibles for him — especially if it omits Forward Taj Gibson and picks in the process. That’s understandable in the micro. But feeding to the macro you have to do it.
Mayo’s bread-and-butter is scoring, shooting the ball which Bulls have been reluctant to do with a lack-less roster of stingy players. Not one can I point to and say, ‘he has the Larry Hughes syndrome.’ Not one. Instead, the roster is relatively left with much of the same:
Rose = Watson
Bogans = Brewer
Boozer = Gibson
Noah = Asik
To better go about addressing this redundancy, adding Mayo’s 3000-plus points — in three career seasons — is one which rivals Derrick Rose’s, by exactly 234-points less.
So imagine if Rose’s best batman after the switch doesn’t have to fight for shots — or even have so much as worry about Deng or Boozer turning into Randolph and Gay overnight.
No longer is he the fourth option; he’s the main option

NBA Trade Rumors: 10 Players Who Would Make Chicago Favorite in the East

The Chicago Bulls are already one of the top teams in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. They currently sit in the 3 seed if the season were to end today and they have not even had their entire starting line-up together for more than a few games with Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer all missing time this season. The Bulls are one of the top defensive teams in the NBA and should only get better as the season wears on and they continue to get healthy.
The only flaw in their roster right now is at shooting guard where they start Keith Bogans and bring in Ronnie Brewer off the bench for most of the minutes. They could use a shooter to stretch the floor while also keeping up their defensive prowess. There are a few players here that will only help on the offensive end, but each one of them really brings something that the Bulls lack, a scoring threat at the two guard position.
If they can bring in one of these players it would be hard not to consider them the favorites to win the East this season.
3. O.J. Mayo
Christian Petersen/Getty Images He may have just been suspended for 10 games for a banned substance, but that should not stop the Bulls from pursuing him.
Once a highly regarded talent coming out of USC, Mayo has fallen off this season, but if he is put in the right situation his talent could show through once again.
As a third or fourth scoring option on the Bulls he could thrive. Also, he has played point in the past and could take over C.J. Watson’s role backing up Derrick Rose.
I could post a few more but I think you get the point. Tongue-out…open mouth, insert foot and stfu. Mayo would be a great fit for the Bulls.
