If there were no age requirement rule implemented there would be tons & tons of HS prospects in the NBA.

From 2006-2010 list all the HS prospects that you think would have made the jump from each class.

Beside their name list where you think they would have been picked in the draft……

    #1 overall, Top 3, Top 5, Top 10, Mid-1st , Late-1st , Early-2nd , Late-2nd, Undrafted

*This should be interesting to see how you all would view certain players draft statuses coming out of HS.

    Let the projections began!!!!!!!!

Base rankings off of HS performance, not what they did or how they did in college.

I like your list but I think there would be A LOT more high schoolers to go especially in ’07 & ’09. I’m going to try & come up with a list also & post it tommorow hopefully. I will have my work cut out for me with this 1.

I really doubt Jennings is top 5. High School PGs dont usually go in top 10, unless you have an unusual talent such as Shaun Livingston who was 6’7.

    2006

    Greg Oden (#1-Raptors)

    Kevin Durant (#2-Bulls-obvious picks.)

Brandan Wright (#9-Golden State Warriors-say it is high, still a better pick than Patrick O’Bryant)

    Spencer Hawes (#10-Seattle Supersonics)

    Thaddeus Young (#12-New Orleans Hornets)

I think these 5 were it, though a few more possibilities. These include: Darrell Arthur, Gerald Henderson, Wayne Ellington, Javaris Crittenton, Chase Budinger, Daequan Cook, Lopez’s, Hasheem Thabeet. But, call me crazy, but I think that those 5 would be the only ones to enter, though maybe time has thrown me off. It would be hard to believe that the only players who entered would go lottery, so I am sure there would be others, though I am sure you will all agree with me that going to college and being drafted when they were able to better contribute was a good call for a number of these players.

    2007

    Tons, by the way.

Derrick Rose (#1-Portland Trail Blazers. Some may say he was not the #1 prospect at the time, but I had him as #1 and I was not alone. I am guessing he still goes 1)

Michael Beasley (#2-Seattle Supersonics. Remember, we are basing this off of HS players entering the year before. No Kevin Durant for these guys, he is a Bull. Also, the picks would more than likely be radically different, but I am just going by who had them.)

OJ Mayo (#4-Memphis Grizzlies. Right After Horford)

    Eric Gordon (#7 Minnesota Timberwolves)

    Kevin Love (#8-Charlotte Bobcats)

    DeAndre Jordan (#10-Sacramento Kings)

    Donte Greene (#12-Philadelphia 76ers)

Kosta Koufos (#17- New Jersey Nets. Not all of these picks would have been good picks, though between he and Sean Williams, who knows)

    Bill Walker (#18-Golden State Warriors)

    Herb Pope (#39-Miami Heat)

Other possibilities: Kyle Singler (Probably not, but I am guessing he would have gone top 20), Patrick Patterson, JJ Hickson, Jerryd Bayless, Nick Calathes, Gani Lawal, James Harden, Blake Griffin (though I think he was leaning towards college), James Johnson, Anthony Randolph (‘s Potential)

    2008

Would have been a much worse draft. With all the previous high schoolers having been taken, and with the 2008 HS class being much weaker at the top, wow. The first pick would be a conundrum. Russell Westbrook would be the highest player drafted from the class who had not entered via HS, followed by Gallinari, Augustin and Lopez. Was Russell Westbrook at the time considered a better prospect than some of the HS players? My signs would be, no.

Brandon Jennings (#1-Chicago Bulls. Difficult. It very well could have been Westbrook. Keep in mind, the chances of the Bulls having this pick with Durant/Noah and whoever they choser at 2 the previous year is super slim. But, I am sure people would salivate if they picked Westbrook to go along with the previous people I mentioned. I do not see it happening that way though. Jennings was the #1 in the class, and I think he or Evans likely would have gone ahead of Russell Westbrook.)

Greg Monroe (#2-Miami Heat. Heat get a big man to team with Wade, one with a ton of upside.)

Jrue Holliday (#3-Minnesota Timberwolves. Hear is where I actually think I might not be crazy. Yes, it seems farfetched that HS guys would have gone 1-2-3, especially guys who are not even on the level of Russell Westbrook. But, look at the time when this draft was happening. I do not think I was alone in people expecting Jrue Holliday to be just as good if not better than Russell at UCLA. His freshman year was slightly disappointing, but he looked like a potential killer. I am confident that he indeed would have likely gone in front of Russell. After all, I am trying to look at what would have happened without using hindsight)

Tyreke Evans (#5-Memphis Grizzlies. He could have gone higher, but I am guessing that the Bulls and Wolves would have been dying for a true PG and that the Heat had little confidence in Evans ability to play point next to D-Wade. So, he plays with Rudy Gay, makes for a very interesting duo)

DeMar DeRozan (#7 LA Clippers-Pick the hometown kid.)

    Al-Farouq Aminu (#8-Milwaukee Bucks)

    Devin Ebanks (#11-Indiana Pacers)

    Samardo Samuels (#19-Cleveland Cavaliers)

BJ Mullens (#15-Phoenix Suns. Could have gone higher. He was big and athletic, I think people saw a future star in the making, a la Robert Swift.)

    Delvon Roe (#23-Utah Jazz)

Other possibilities: Ed Davis, Scotty Hopson, Ty Walker, J’mison Morgan, Luke Babbitt, William Buford, Chris Singleton, Iman Shumpert, Tyler Zeller, Michael Dunigan, Willie Warren, Latavious Williams, Drew Gordon, Ater Majok

    2009

John Wall (#2-Memphis Grizzlies. Could have been a battle between he and Blake Griffin, who may have entered and been the first pick in the year previous, but I will say he did his monsterous sophomore season at Oklahoma. Wall on the other hand, depletes Kentucky’s hopes at having anywhere close to their 2009 NCAA season. Coach Cal’s class would have been different, that is for sure.)

Derrick Favors (#3-Oklahoma City Thunder. I say he would have gone ahead of Harden as they were looking for big guys to build around without having chosen Durant. He and Westbrook would likely be this teams future core.)

DeMarcus Cousins (#4-Sacramento Kings. Same questions about conditioning and maturity, but his talent would be too much to pass up.)

John Henson (#6-Minnesota Timberwolves. Yeah, he is skinny as all hell, and he had a tough freshman year, but they took Eric Gordon before, would probably still have taken Rubio and see him as a PF with tons of potential. I think they take him over Johnny Flynn, but that is just me)

Xavier Henry (#7-Golden State Warriors. Some time would have fallen in love with him, and I think the Warriors might have even, dare I say, bypassed Curry to take him? We know this would not be the right pick, but I could easily see it happening. New York than would have either taken Curry or Flynn)

Renardo Sidney (#10-Milwaukee Bucks. Again, questions about conditioning and attitude, but I feel his talent and size might have still made him go lotto out of HS)

"Born Ready" Lance Stephenson (#11-New Jersey Nets. Might be reaching very high for Lance, but he was an intriguing prospect. Still, chances are he would not have gone this high, but it only takes one team to fall in love with him, and this was before his inconsistent freshman year at St. John’s.)

    Avery Bradley (#16-Chicago Bulls)

    Daniel Orton (#17-Philadelphia 76ers)

    Mouphtauo Yarou (#24-Dallas Mavericks)

    Keith Gallon (#27-Memphis Grizzlies)

Other possibilities: Kenny Boynton, Jordan Hamilton, Wally Judge, Alex Oriakhi, Tommy Mason-Griffin, Thomas Robinson

    2010

Harrison Barnes (#1-Washington Wizards. The NBA probably would not have felt differently than any other analyst. He looked like the most complete prospect going into this year.)

Perry Jones III (#3-New Jersey Nets)

    Enes Kanter (#4-Minnesota Timberwolves)

    Kyrie Irving (#5-Sacramento Kings)

    Jared Sullinger (#7-Detroit Pistons)

Fab Melo (#8-LA Clippers. I know. Sorry Clippers fans.)

    Terrence Jones (#10-Indiana Pacers)

    Tobias Harris (#12-Memphis Grizzlies)

    Josh Selby (#15-Milwaukee Bucks)

    Tristan Thompson (#17-Chicago Bulls)

    Brandon Knight (#18-Miami Heat)

    Tony Mitchell (#19-Boston Celtics)

    Jelan Kendrick (#22- Minnesota Timberwolves)

    CJ Leslie (#24-Atlanta Hawks)

Other possibilities: Cory Joseph, Jereme Richmond, Will Barton, Patric Young, DeShaun Thomas, Reggie Bullock

The league would be radically different, that is for sure. THunder and Bulls fans should be so thankful for the age limit. High School players would just keep going higher and higher, it would be common place for them to be lottery picks. I tried to do this with keeping the newly reconstructed teams in mind. Therefore, everyone picked would be on that new team and not eligible for the draft that next year. Hence the Bulls picking Jennings. I think all in all, the age limit has been beneficial to teams abilities to judge prospects. Also, the extra year makes the players more physically ready to contribute immediately.

Are you that confident about this years class? I mean, Miller, Rivers, Anthony Davis, Mike Gilchrist are all guys who definitely have something to them as prospects. But, the lack of big guys is certainly disheartening. I think the 2012 class has tons of intrigue as far as big men. Still, really would like to see the 2011 class go through a year of college before calling them stacked as in their immediate ability to contribute in the NBA.

I think Rivers and Davis would both be locks as the top pick in this year’s draft…..and probably Miller too…..and as a junior Gilchrist was considered the best prospect in all  high school regardless of class…..so yes I’m convinced….Davis and Miller might be projects of sorts but they are both well worth the inherent risk…..especially Davis he is almost a shoe in as an all-star in 4 years tops…..

First off I would like to say thank you for taking the time out with all the hard work & effort you had put into your projections.

You really topped the cake when you put every player in a sitaution that was based off which team were picking in the correct order at the time. It would have been nice to see which players you rated in the 2nd round also, but I’m not knocking you because that was an exceptional effort. Keep in mind these players had a lot of hype & would have skipped the prom……..Scotty Hopson-1st round, Derrick Character-2nd round

I kind’ve think that it was a good idea for Stern to implement the rule now, that I sit back & can visualize for myself which players would have come out & where they would have went. Don’t get me wrong I am not against HS players coming out, because if you can fight a war you should be able to earn a NBA check. If the rule were never to be implemented the whole college transition to the NBA wouldn’t amount to anything. HS prospects would always get valued higher than the college prospects off of potential alone. Each year it would be more & more HS prospects to come out which would become a fad. Every year it would be at least an average of 7 HS prospects to potentially go in the 1st round which would be ridiculous.

After looking at your list again, I must ask would Memphis really take all 3 of these players?

I think they would have been questioned over time like Minnesota for taking 3 PGs in the 1st round.

    2007

OJ Mayo (#4-Memphis Grizzlies. Right After Horford)

    2008

Tyreke Evans (#5-Memphis Grizzlies. He could have gone higher, but I am guessing that the Bulls and Wolves would have been dying for a true PG and that the Heat had little confidence in Evans ability to play point next to D-Wade. So, he plays with Rudy Gay, makes for a very interesting duo)

See, I do not think there would be a ton of guys who would come out and be taken in the 2nd round. Surely some would have, but I did not really know where many would be projected at the time. I did have Herb Pope mind you. I was thinking about putting Caracter, but I think many were down on him and that he might have still gone to college. Still, see him as being a second round pick. Scotty Hopson was a great scoring guard prospect, but I also think it would be likely he went to college. Smaller guards were not always locks to leave for the pros, and the ones that did tended to be super athletes.

It was definitely an oversite for me to have Memphis picking all three of those guys, my bad. I am guessing Tyreke might have gone a little later, or possibly someone trading up for him. As I said, it was very tough keeping everything in line. You would more than likely have to go back and re-do every draft to know just what went on. Plus, than you would have to think about which teams would have maybe had better records/worse records from said picks. It was an interesting hypothetical, glad I took a stab. I agree with the players Quincey put for this year, however, maybe even add Khem Birch to the list (those he needs to develop his body). Still, this class is strong on the wing and weak at big. Their will be legit players, and I am sure the top of the lotto would like 2012, but do we really know if these guys are bonafide All-Stars as of yet? They have more potential than some players from class of 2010, but Rivers is the closest thing to a finished product and they all need major work on their bodies. I am excited to see how these players stack up, but I really look to 2012 as being a class with big things to offer. They have a ton of strong big men, some interesting projects and some major potential in Muhammed and Purvis. That is a class I think is stacked.

Even though I doubt it will happen, what if the age limit is removed from the new CBA like it has been dicussed? If that were to happen, the 2012 Draft would be absolutely STACKED. Rivers, Miller, Davis, Teague, Nash, McAdoo, Kabongo, Gilchrist, Birch, Drummond, Austin, Muhammed, and Coleman are just few of the prospects that would be in it. But like I said earlier, I doubt the age limit will be taken away.

I actually agree with this rule.  I see what they are trying to do.  Too many players sign up to the draft that aren’t ready and end up ruining their careers and pretty much their lives.  They end up going to Europe, getting paid minimum contracts, with no education.

Atleast, they go to school for a year and if they like it, continue attending their school while in the NBA and get their degree.

I really think Paul Harris would have benefited from going pro early…….For starters scouts would have been in love with his NBA akready made body. He probably/probably not have been on a roster long for being undersized, but if Chuck Hayes is still making a living nobody would have never knew unless Harris would have been drafted.

I don’t have a lot of time, so I just did 06 and 07…here’s my thoughts

     06:

Greg Oden – I still think he would have gone #1 overall

Kevin Durant – He was highly touted out of high school, but without his insane freshman year I think he would have gone somewhere in the 3-7 range.

Brandan Wright- I think Wright would have gone in the late lottery had he come out in 06′ his versitlity was being raved about at the time, but I don’t think he would have gone before forwards Rudy Gay, Sheldon Williams,Tyrus Thomas, or LaMarcus Aldridge to put him in the top 10.

Spencer Hawes- I think Hawes would have gone top 10, he was highly touted as an offensive player and at 7′ tall he would have gone ahead of Sene and Patrick O’Bryant as the top lottery picks after Oden and Bargs in 06′

Paul Harris- I think Paul Harris would have gone in the mid to late 20’s had he come straight out of high school

    07:

Michael Beasley- With Oden and Durant out of the picture in 2007 I think Michael Beasley would have gone #1 overall.  There were very few questions about him and his athleticism, size and versitility would have GM’s fighting over him.

O.J. Mayo- Mayo was one of the most hyped players coming out of high school in quite a long time.  I think he would have gone #2 behind Beasley had they both come out that year.

Derrick Rose- Rose and Beasley flip flopped all year when they were in college.  Had neither of them had gone to college he wouldn’t have taken his team to the National Championship game nor showcased his game the way he did in his one year. I think he would have gone #3, making 3 high schoolers going in the top 3.  Al Horford, Mike Conley or any other upper class men wouldn’t have beat any of them out.

DeAndre Jordan- I think Jordan would have gone top 10 probably in the 7-10 range.  He had a very underwhelming season as a freshman in college and raised some character questions in pre draft workouts.  With his size, athleticism, hype and lack of a non dominant freshman year I think he would have gone top 10.

Kevin Love- I think Kevin Love would have gone somewhere in the 7-10 range. I think a year of college and a Final 4 appearance helped him out as far as his draft stock was concerned, but I think he still would have gone high.

Eric Gordon- I think Eric Gordon would have gone in the 12-15 range.  I still see Brewer, Noah, and Acie Law going ahead of him after great winning seasons in college.  A player like Yi would have also held his stock in the top 10.

Bill Walker- I think Walker would have gone 20-25, his athleticism and "potential" would have gotten him taken on a low risk first round pick.

Jerryd Bayless- Bayless was still an offensive point guard with short arms coming out of high school, without puttin up big numbers in college I think he would have gone in the late 1st to early 2nd round.

Donte Green- I think he would have gone in the 2nd round

Jordan would have gone first. Thats where he was projected by many scouts when he came out of HS. He only dropped when during the college season

I think Bill Walker would have been a lottery pick for sure. Only knock on him in high school was his jump shot. One of the most athletic players I have ever seen, then he had a terrible knee injury in college.
