IknoBall12ParticipantI watched this guy play last nite for the 1st time. After all the hype ive heard about him i finally saw the truth. And he didnt dissapoint. Most players get hyped up and get on national tv and lay a dud but this guy put up 43 and was outstanding. While watching this game i saw sumthing that i never see in college and especially never see while being a duke fan for so long. WHat i saw was that the coach of BYU gave jimmer the rite and the reigns to shoot dam near every single shot and had no real offense. AS a fan i must say this makes for entertaining basketball and i love to watch a guy go for big numbers. And the way fredette plays its a wonder that he rarely goes cold and his team has won so many games. But again i was really just kinda suprised to see that freedom jimmer got becuz u rarely see coaches just give the guy reigns to a team like that. And its all good becuz from what i saw not too many other people played too well for the exception of maybe 2 guys(forgot their names). But yea this guy is a great watch

BKKnicksfanParticipantI like him and I would compare him to a guy like Eddie House, or Mark Price but a poor man’s verison.
I’ve seen things like: He’s a lotto pick, he’s iverson with a jumper and he’s Stephen Curry. People need to slow down. Personally, I don’t think he can be that great a PG in the NBA and I don’t know if he can play D at the next level. I like him and think he’s a 20-32 guy but not more IMO because he will be a backup.

jaysmith1987ParticipantI see this guy being a steve nash type a guy who can shoot light outs and still loves to pass he wont be your go to scorer but with a go to scorer and a coach like bryon scott who lets his pg play he will be a star. He has put 40 up against the best teams he played. HeMs not like JJ reddick because he is a point guard and dont give me the Adam Morrsion story because they were both great college players who havent light up the nba. Reddick and Morrison were not having 40 point games against there best competition and Byu without Fradette doesnt sniff the Ncaa tpurnament both Reddick and Morrison had superior teams to Fredette. He is a real sleeper no one predicts to be great these days because they base everything on athleticism now but recently we have seen Kevin Love average 20 and 15 being less than super athletic playing at one of the most athletic positions. Sometimes players get by because of advanced skill and i believe he is one of those guys. Not saying he will be Steve Nash because he hasnt played a nba game yet but thats not to say he cant be better what I do know is he is dominating his level and doing it against pretty good comp from time to time.

BKKnicksfanParticipantNo WAY he becomes a Nash type. Nash in college was great and made bad players decent around him. Jimmer is a scorer who MIGHT be able to pass well at the next level. Nash was a playmaker coming out. Redick and Morrison were having great games vs top teams. Redick ever more because he was killing ACC teams. Morrison had a couple great games vs Okla St, Maryland, Michigan st to name a few.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI find it slightly troubling the degree to which a single BYU game on television magically alters the opinions of people so violently. Not so much people, but ESPN (before the year 60th and now 12th, this site (late first-ish to now in the early 20s), and DX (still thinks Jaycee Carroll is a better shooter and won’t guard anyone but has him 13th). I have been high on Fredette since mid-season last year when he went off on Armon Johnson, Luke Babbitt, and an incredibly overrated Nevada team. He caught my eye that night, and has been a joy to watch since. That said, if someone thought the guy wasn’t athletic enough or good enough after torching Arizona twice, Nevada, Florida, getting freakish star treatment from K-State, UTEP, UNLV, etc why would one game that appears on their entertainment box changes all perceptions? Maybe they ought to get a different cable package if Fredette didn’t look like a pro before last night. He didn’t show anything last night that he hasn’t done many times before.
It is no less foolish to overvalue one game than when people are comparing him to Adam Morrison or hold it against him that the list of white American lottery picks is not exactly lined with greatness. It is dumb when all Africans or all Europeans get tagged the same way. I actually find it rather funny when the South Americans and Asians get tagged as Euros, but otherwise would find that to be wrong as well. His putting up big scoring numbers is no more comparable to Adam Morrison than it is to Michael Beasley. He isn’t some mystery who has never been seen on a basketball floor before. There is plenty of room to judge his qualifications as an NBA prospect using his own body of work.

rtbtParticipantHey JaySmith, how many white guys can you throw into the Jimmer Fredette list of comparisons? I think you left out Bill Walton, BJ Mullens, Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler, and Jon Barry.

iguapops420ParticipantActually he could very well develop into a Steve Nash type of player. He’s shown that he never stops working on his game, and if he were put at the pg position, he would never stop working and would develop into a great pg. He already has basic intangibles of the position. Like Nash he finds ways to get to the rim and finish with creative ball fakes floater and runners. Doesn’t hurt that Fredette uses his thick frame to create some space while driving, and helps him finish through contact. He’ll never be a good defender at the NBA level, but neither is Nash or Stephen Curry really outside of Off ball steals.
Having said that, I doubt he will ever become as good as Steve because Steve is a HOF player, but Fredette could certainly develop that way. No one expected this from Steve Nash when he was drafted either. Didn’t hurt that Nash developed behind Jason Kidd. Which is why I think it would be smart for the Suns to draft Jimmer and let him develop behind Nash. Pick Nash’s brain. Nash has already said he’s down for the rebuild so he probably would like to find a true succesor. Teach them the way Kidd taught him.
