magmo68Participant…I was wondering if the people on this forum consider it "CHEATING" if somebody like Yao Ming with all his physical problems used HGH or other steroid type of enhancements to continue his career?

llperezwhile i would sympathiize with yao and could understand where he is coming from if he used it, fact is in sports bodies get old and start breaking down. Every athlete could benefit and get through injuries and play longer with steroids. SO yeah, it would be cheating in my book.

Im Your FatherParticipantWhat is the NBA penalty for testing positive for HGH? If it isn’t a lifetime ban, maybe it would be worth it for someone like Yao to just use it and take the suspension.

PlatypusParticipantAndy Pettite did it to get healthy, but no matter how you put it, its cheating, he’d be using a performance enhancer

PlatypusParticipantThere are consequences for using steroids in the four major sports and they are different in each one. The National Football League or the N.F.L., suspends players for four games the first time he tests positive for any banned substance, if the player tests positive a second time, the game play suspension is increased to at least eight games, if the player does it again and tests positive a third time, he will be suspended from playing in any games for one whole year. In the National Hockey League or the N.H.L., players are suspended for twenty games the first time they are caught with performance enhancers, sixty for their second offense, and if they are found again with the illegal substance they will be permanently banned. In the National Basketball Association or the N.B.A., players are suspended for five games for their first offence, the second offence is for ten games and if they are found guilty for a third or more time then, they are suspended for twenty five games. In Major League Baseball or M.L.B., a player who is found guilty with illegal substances for the first time will be suspended for fifty games, if they are caught for a second time they are suspended for 100 games and if found again with illegal substances they are permanently banned.(i wrote a paper about sports and drugs)

QUINCEY HODGES1I wouldn’t too much because that stuff doesn’t help as much like in football and baseball. There was test showing some NBA players used Steroids in the past and none of the guys who used it were big factors in the NBA

JNixonParticipantRashard Lewis used performance enhancers a year or 2 ago I remember. He got a 10 game suspension on his 1st offense.

SwatLakeCityParticipantYes I would definitely consider it cheating. No doubt about it and wouldn’t even have to think about it. This was a serious problem in baseball and it drove me insane hearing about all the stars in baseball who used steroids. This is one of the main reasons why I hate baseball so much.
Athletes in all sports should rely on their athletic ability and their effort and determination to get better not just on some material drug that is supposed to enhance your performance. To put it more religiously, they should rely on their God given talent and determination more than man-made materials like steroids. Put your trust in the arm of God not the arm of flesh or man (Proverbs 3:5)

Im Your FatherParticipantThey might not help your game much, but I’m pretty sure they do help you recover from injury, which is what Yao would need them for.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think with Yao it would be worth it. Also i can understand someone taking it to become a better player but Yao would be taking it for Medical use. rule wise it is cheating but I would not hold it against a player like Yao who has dealt with injuries if this could help him heal quicker.

TooNice4TVParticipantIf I was Yao, I’d take it to take care of myself and heal faster while receiving a suspension if it comes down to it.
imo: health and well being > suspension
and everyone knows he needs it.
