Hey, anyone out there has ESPN Insider who would mind listing the ranks for all 30 teams? Also would you mind posting the Knicks explanation?

    Thanks a lot.

The Knicks didn’t get LeBron James this summer, but they continue to skyrocket up our Future Power Rankings. This summer, the Knicks moved up a whopping 12 spots in our player rankings, the most by any team at that time. Since August, they’ve moved up another three spots to No. 8 thanks in large part to a terrific start to the season and what looks like the inside track to acquiring Carmelo Anthony.

Amare Stoudemire is having an MVP-worthy season, Raymond Felton has been terrific and the Knicks may have scored the steal of the draft in second-round pick Landry Fields. All are unanticipated developments that should help the Knicks’ long-term future.

The Knicks continue to rank high in the money department not because they have the most cap space, but because we believe they’ll get the most bang for their buck. With Chris Sheridan’srecent report that Anthony wants to play for just one team — the Knicks — we’re pretty confident that they’ll add the All-Star, either at the trade deadline or this summer.

New York’s long-term cap projections also look bright. Even if they are paying Stoudemire and Anthony the max, they should still have the cap room to make another big splash — say, 2012 free agents Chris Paul or Deron Williams — in two summers.

In short, despite some obvious setbacks, the future in New York has never seemed brighter. While it’s doubtful they’ll be able to compete with the likes of Miami or Chicago in the future, they should, for the first time in a long time, finally field a contender starting as early as next season.

Thanks a lot. Man I can’t believe the Knicks have gotten so high. It’s great to see the Knicks success and potential validified by an unbiased network. I mean I thought they were this good and had that type of potential, but I thought it might have been my bias.

    acouple problems with this list-

Lakers #3….Kobe, Gasol, Artest, and Odom are all over 30…if you are going to put the C’s so low because of age do the same for the Lakers.

Nets #11….This team blows. I dont care if you think Brook Lopez is the best center in the NBA, they are no where near even being mediocre. Where is there bright future? Derrick Favors? Were not even sure he can ball yet.

Yeah but with all the draft picks they have (from the recent trade) and one of the three youngest team in the NBA, I think they have oodles of potential.

Or also the fact that the Raptors don’t really have a very bright future? I mean they have some talent, but so does every team.

ESPN better put New York in the top ten now because a month from now when they are below .500 and the nonsense about Melo for garbage on a stick, Amare for MVP, Raymond Felton being anything but an average point, and Landry Fields being anything but a second round pick are a distant memory.

They also don’t seem to grasp that Derrick Rose is better than Dwyane Wade RIGHT NOW. It isn’t at the point of approaching stardom or potential MVP down the line, he has flown past people. He carried them without Boozer and now he is going to show people that Joakim Noah’s contract is a Derrick Rose production. He is at the point where the Bulls are probably ahead of the Thunder in terms of likelihood of winning a title.

I’d have the Rockets right around the Suns range, and I feel bad about it because I do like Yao but he might be done. Without him, they are headed for a long run of bad basketball.

The Kings absolutely deserve to be in the bottom five, maybe bottom two. I’ll give them a slight edge over Minnesota because they didn’t give away Al Jefferson, but that team has all the look of a team that one day hopes to be the Grizzlies battling for the 9th best team in the West. No defense, no passing, and bad shooting is a hard combination to overcome.

Pacers at #11? Do these guys watch basketball? Where is that franchise going with Hibbert, McBob, Granger, Collison, and Tyler Hansbrough other than to the lottery? And I thought the Knicks were overrating one month.

Clippers at #15? Idiots. Blake Griffin is good, but not good enough to make that picture look anything better than awful. Bad coaching, bad ownership, indifferent veterans, no concept of defense, and the supposed young talent around Griffin is overpraised to say the least. Eric Gordon might be approaching Kevin Martin status soon. Bledsoe and Aminu are nowhere near ready to play and only see the floor because of the trainwreck status of the team. Anytime they are on the floor in a game. DeAndre Jordan is still someone that can only hope to one day be Andris Biedrins.

The Wizards on the other hand should be higher simply because John Wall is good enough to one day make JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche look good. Also, due to the fact that Wall has been sidelined with random stuff, they are getting closer and closer to two good things: 1) getting rid of Flip 2) another top five pick.

Bucks at #18? They have a really good starting center in Bogut (age 26), a good point guard in Brandon Jennings, quality coaching and GM, and it is an organization that preaches defense. By the end of the year, they’ll be lapping the Knicks and Pacers.

"But there are problems galore. Evan Turner, the No. 2 pick in the 2010 draft, is off to a rough start. Turner has struggled to fit in with the team without the ball in his hands, and given the Sixers’ woes in the frontcourt, it’s hard to understand why they passed on a player such as Derrick Favors for him." Maybe because teams don’t draft with the be-all-end-all of the first month of the career as the mindset. Turner is going to be fine. Apparently these two have no memory of how Deron Williams and Joakim Noah looked early on.

"The Wolves went from getting six points for management to 20. That’s right, we’re positively sunny about the David Kahn era compared to three months ago. The Michael Beasley trade looks like a steal and Darko Milicic has at least shown a pulse, making a head-scratching summer look slightly more coherent. Additionally, a Kevin Love-Beasley nucleus is a nice starting point for the rebuilding job in Minnesota." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHA!  Are Hollinger and Ford the guys who post the Minnesota love threads on this message board? Really, there cannot be more than five people globally who actually believe that craziness.

There is nothing like the team being among the best defensive teams in the league and point guards regularly playing below their norms to indicate that Rose plays no defense.

I would take Rose. I just feel Rose has made the leap into that top 10 status. It’s debatable now if you say Rose is the best PG in the NBA. He leads that team and is actually a better playmaker than I thought he would be.

Also, age. I much rather have Rose for the next decade then Wade for the next 5 seasons.

The single best paragraph I have read on this site. About time someone with a brain who has watched D Rose gives him some love.

Quit calling out Rose’s D…its really improved, and last time i checked only a month ago D Wade played the worst defensive game I have seen by a guard in my life vs Boston…

I would actually put the Jazz ahead of the Bulls. And this is not bias. The Jazz are very much improved defensively this year and for the future as well. They stress defense a ton. A healthy AK is the main reason why. But also because of their addition by subtraction work during this offseason when they got Big Al, moved Paul Millsap to the starting lineup, and added Raja Bell over Wesley Matthews.

Before I definitely agreed with that last move, but now I am starting to have doubts about it, because Matthews has turned into quite a player in less than a half a season in Portland. Before this season started I would never have dreamed of starting Matthews ahead of Batum. But anyway, that is beside the point.

The point is Defense wins championships not offense. While the Jazz improved significantly in defense, The Bulls did the exact opposite. Their only defensive presences they have is Rose, Deng, Noah, and Brewer. While The Jazz have AK (whom counts for two presences pretty much because of his length), Bell, Jefferson, Millsap, Dwill, Miles, Watson, and Fes.

I also think the Jazz will be more successful than the Bulls because even though the Bulls will attract a ton of talent because of their location and their new and improved foundation the Jazz have a bigger expiring contract (AK) than the Bulls do. AK is not a better player than Deng and will consequently be signed for cheaper than Deng, allowing the Jazz to add more talent to their team. I also believe that Deng’s contract isn’t up until next year not this year like AK’s is. (But I could be wrong on that)

Also the Jazz have better personel than the Bulls do. (Personel as in who choses which players to select in the draft and whether or not to do trades, player management coaches.) The Jazz have also been winning for much longer time than the Bulls so they have more experience. the Bulls are really just being copy cats to the Jazz. Everyone knows that the team or company who came up with the idea wins out in the end. And above all they have a much better coach than the Bulls do. While Thibodeao is a definite upgrade over Vinny Del Negro he does not nearly match up to the expertise of Jerry Sloan. Jerry Sloan will also be with the Jazz for quite awhile, (His long tenured relationship with the Jazz is kind of like a marriage. "Till death do us part".) while the Bulls might go through many coaching changes before they find the right one, consequently allowing them to be not as successful over the long run.

Don’t agree. How can you slight the Bulls’ D and then overrate the Jazz on D? Al Jefferson, Paul Milsap and FESENKO (I can’t believe you mentioned him) and even C.J. Miles are NOT defensive presences. Deron Williams isn’t really either in all honesty. All of those guys are OK defenders (Williams, Miles, Milsap) more or less, and Al Jefferson and Fesenko are below average on D. The only truly tough defenders that you listed for the Jazz are Earl Watson and Raja Bell. Luol Deng, Derrick Rose, Noah, Brewer and Keith Bogans are all solid defenders for the Bulls.

The only way the Clips have a future is if Sterling sells the team/dies. I have a feeling the latter would happen sooner though, haha.

As for MN, Love/Beasley is a decent start to the rebuilding process. We can thank Mr. McHale for giving up our likely top-5 pick in 2012 thanks to that dumbass Marko Jaric trade (how that guy got with such an attractive woman, I’ll never understand- it clearly wasn’t basketball talent that attracted her…lmao). Yeah, neither of them really play defense- but Love tries and can’t, whereas Beasley just seems completely disinterested in it at the moment. What they really need is to get some veteran leadership to preach defense. Additionally, they need a real point guard (Rubio is imaginary at this point). Flynn would be a great 6th man, but he’s not starter material. Trade Rubio for some veteran help/first rounders and draft a guy like Kyrie Irving who can not only defend the point, but play it very well. Also, they need a big that can play defense- I feel like going hard after Greg Oden this offseason would seriously be a really good idea. I think they can afford to take a flyer on him.

As for the Lakers at #3…Kobe’s on the bottom end of his prime, Gasol is firmly in his prime, and Odom is ridiculously inconsistent. The only way they remain good is if Bynum can stay on the court for more than 40 games in a season; even then, I doubt they’re #3 in the NBA.

I think the Sixers actually have some solid pieces, and will be better than where they are on this list. Holiday and Turner will be very good players, and Young will be solid as well. Now, they need some bigs-I think signing Brand was a huge drain to them, and once he’s off the books, their future will be much brighter.

This list was pretty solid though. Side note- Poor Yao. His career is probably over. He and Greg Oden are owed big in the Karmic sense.

Trade Rubio for some veteran help/first rounders and draft a guy like Kyrie Irving who can not only defend the point, but play it very well. lakers will be contenders for the next 3 seasons with their current lineup. Bynum is of course a wild card becasue he has potential to be one of the best centers in the game but he cant stay healthy. But I think kobe, pau, odom and ron wont slip too much for the next 3 years. They’re all in their early 30’s

JNixon-Iggy9 – The Jazz have been playing great, and they’re one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. Deron Williams, CJ Miles and Al Jefferson have drastically improved defensively since last year, and the rest of the team has followed suit. Even if they don’t have many great individual defenders, they have been executing and playing a brilliant team defense.

I’m surprised too. Never would have expected it, but it’s true.

    The Jazz are…

7th in the league in Opp PPG Diff.

    7th in Opp FG%

    2nd in Opp. 3FG%

    2nd in Opp. APG

    8th in BPG

    10th in SPG

    Now too bad.

Their rebounding, on the other hand, has been horrid.

How much in the future though.

Orlando 6th really outside of Howard they don’t look that good.

Nets 12 seems a little high.

    Warriors 22nd I figured they’d be a little higher.

Not to be bias either, but the Bulls defense is SUBSTANTIALLY better than the Jazz. So that point is mute. Also, we have seen the Jazz maximize there potential already. We have not seen the Bulls do such.

If you aren’t biased, then can you throw some evidence out there to back up your statements?

If the Bulls are a better defensive team than the Jazz, then it’s not by a "substantially" large amount. Also, I don’t see how the Jazz have "maximized" their potential. Their core is still very young, and their cap situation for the future is impressive.

As for the rest of the list…

    The Bucks are too low.

    The Clippers are too high.

The Nets are just right. (Love what Avery’s doing over there.)

    "Tom Thibs can do that."

The Tom Thibodeau as a good head coach movement is also going to be a Derrick Rose production. He is better than Del Negro (it really didn’t take much), but he doesn’t get credit for the fact that Derrick Rose has busted his butt each offseason to get his game to where it is now.
