JoeWolf1Houston has sent Patrick Patterson to the D-League because of their surplus of power forwards. The Rockets are pretty stacked at all of their positions I’m surprised they have only beat the T-Wolves, but then again it’s a long season and everyone they lost to is above .500. I think it’s a good move if they don’t keep him there all year and give him a chance to come back up at some point. At least he’ll be playing in game situations and getting good minutes. I think he is the caliber of player who can be a double double guy right away in the D-League.
Thoughts about this move or Patterson in general?

bdoody42ParticipantI know it is different position, but this feels like jerryd bayless in Portland. Good players but play for teams that have the position filled. I thought coming out of school he was NBA ready.. Maybe I was wrong?

JoeWolf1I don’t think that he’s not NBA ready, he is just playing by Luis Scolia, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries and Chuck Hayes who are more experienced and when you’ve been losing close games like Houston has those aren’t good minutes for a rookie to get his first NBA experience. Although, I was surprised he didn’t get in the blowout over the Wolves last night.

PureshooterParticipantI think he’ll be in the rotation on a team eventually. He is a great athlete with an NBA body and a nice jumper. He’ll be fine.

Real Talk Real TrophiesParticipantI agree with what has been said. Houston has a stacked roster and the minutes are not there for him. I like that Houston sent him to the D-league so he can play and get game situations at a higher level, compared to just sittin on the bench in street clothes not even being able to dress with the roster. If he was on 15-20 different teams he would be getting minutes. Hope he will get a chance this year to contribute cause guy can play

kaceyParticipantHe definitely has the skillset to play in the NBA, but I agree with the Bayless situation when he was in Portland. Too much experience and depth at his position. Plus, he is the type of player that will play hard no matter what, I’m sure he looks at this as an opportunity more than a demotion.

joecheck88Participantfunny patterson was a lotto pick and cant get minutes but a second rounder playing the same position gets minutes on a world championship team(derrick caracter). houston isnt looking too good. i think we may see kevin martin traded, yao retire, and players like scola, hayes, battier all be in different uniforms in the next 18 months if things keep going bad. but the good thing about houston rebuilding is that they have some nice pieces in brooks, lowry, lee, budinger, hill, and patterson. throw in a top 10 pick this year and they are almost rebuilt. i think its almost time to do this as well. the whole yao thing is failing and he just cant stay healthy.

Counting StarsParticipantThe Rockets tend to go after the best player available when drafting. When they drafted Aaron Brooks, they were pretty stacked at point guard, but now he is (when healthy) starting and putting up good numbers. The Rockets are currently pretty stacked at power forward, but I wouldn’t give up on Patterson just yet.

That’s a poor way to look at this situation. Patterson probably would get the same time in LA. Patterson playing behind 4 players in different than Caracter playing behind 3 guys. Also add in the fact that garbage time is readily available since the Lakers have been steamrolling teams, and I don’t think it’s fair to compare the Patterson situation to what Caracter is doing in limited time. Caracter also is looking more and more likely to be in the D-League as the Lakers play more and more games, so basically he’s in the same boat if you want to compare the 2.
