mikeyvthedonParticipantThe biggest issue with trading Melo, is that I sincerely believe he only wants to go to the Knicks. That is the team he wants to go to and that is the only team I believe he will sign an extension with. The problem with that of course, is that it puts Denver in a really bad position, as the Knicks, who already lack tradeable assets to begin with, have not been willing to part with both Danilo Gallinari and Anthony Randolph, wanting either one or the other to be involved in a deal. This also makes it necessary for a third party to be part of the deal, to not only appease the Nuggets, but also to make the money work. This scenario basically completely puts Carmelo in the drivers seat. Why? While the Nuggets could trade him anywhere they want, they will not find any suitors offering them anything of value for a player who will bolt as soon as the season was done. This is why I was shocked when that New Jersey trade for Melo was going down, I just believe Melo wants to go to the Knicks. As soon as the Melo trade did not go down, I thought there would be little chance of him ending up there.
I think that Bulls deal is dead, as JoeWolf pointed out about their re-signing of Noah, plus the fact that Luol Deng is of little interest to the Nuggets. I believe Denver is stretching this out to get the best deal possible, but either way, they will not get fair value for Melo. That is what happens when a free agent wants to go somewhere that can afford them, and it will undoubtedly suck for the Nuggets. They should be happy to get a draft pick or two and a couple young rebuilding pieces. Also, look for teams like Portland, the Clippers and maybe even the Pistons to be involved as a third team, but to have no expectations of getting Carmelo whatsoever. All of these trades that involve Melo going to the same team as JR Smith confuse me. I have a feeling that if JR Smith is included in the deal, he goes to the third party team, if he is included at all. I believe the Nuggets will trade him, but maybe in a seperate deal. Nonetheless, all of this speculation about Melo going anywhere other than New York just seems to have no legs.

The Splash DocParticipantCarmelo should go to New Orleans honestly
Nuggets get- David West, Marcus Thorton, Marco Bellinelli, Quincy Pondexter and Peja Stojakovic plus 2 1st
Hornets get- Carmelo Anthony, Nene, JR Smith and Chris Andersen
Nuggets get all expiring deals and 1 rookie option plus 2 1st rounders they also get rid of Nene and his player option and Birdmans 3 years 15mil left. Headcase JR is gone who can easily be replaced by Thorton. West is solid too and still in his prime.
Hornets get a great supporting cast for a championship run
Paul-Bayless
Ariza-Smith
Anthony-Ariza
Nene-Andersen

PlatypusParticipantYoung Splash, the Nuggets would probably want Ariza, he has talent and he does not have a ridiculous contract like Deng

The Splash DocParticipantAriza plays that Artest role though he will be key for defending LeBron, Kobe and Durant. Unless New Orleans mad a deal for Battier or Lee with Houston I dont see Denver getting Ariza

mikeyvthedonParticipantYou realize that trade would make no damn sense for the Nuggets. They get 1st round picks that would be totally out of the lottery in that scenario and David West. They give up every viable option they had at Center, Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith. Why on earth would they do this deal? I guess I should not even ask, because it is obvious you are thinking completely on the side of the Hornets for the deal, but it is just really awful. Even with the Pau Gasol trade, you could at least possibly see some upside too it, but I see non for Denver in this case, unless one of the people they took in the 20’s turned in too a slept on All-Star. Man, where do you people come up with some of these trades? There has to be some kind of logic to it, it has to work financially and it has to work in some way for all of the teams involved. If there were legit Free Agents that Denver had some chance of obtaining, than maybe I could see a pay-off, but there are none. Even for people who point out that they might have a stab at Oden (who has value to me, but probably very little to others, but under a good case scenario), he is still an RFA. There is absolutely no way that trade goes down without both Jerryd Bayless and Trevor Ariza involved. Just a crazily ridiculous trade in my mind, sorry if you find that disrespectful, but, that trade is horrible.
