valentineAs I’m sitting here watching yet another jazz game I realize the change of the guard in clipper land. This team will become blakes team very soon. Prob next year. Every time the ball goes through him something good happens. He has a nice bank hook shot and on top of being athletic he’s strong ( millsap came to the bench and said ” he’s strong as sh&t”) when griffin is off gordan is more than capable of doing his thing. Something I’m not liking about gordan. He’s sometimes has the oj mayo syndrome (falling in love with his jumper) when he can get in the lane almost at will. Also if you havnt seen Blake up close in person he’s a big boy
Although I’m a laker fan I’ve watched ever clipper game and I only came to the game to see Blake play. I like the energy the team plays with and I like bledsoe at the point. I now say keep him there and have baron split time with him untill he gets everything together and have foyle be the back up sg. I will still be critical of the clippers but I will be rooting for them

sammybuckeye13ParticipantThat improvised off balance turn around with the shot clock at 1…you know he’s gonna be huge

stanford hoopsHe has a double double already. 15pts 12reb. He’s a pretty good defender as well. Works hard. Kaman has seemed to break out if his funk. Craig smith looks like a linebacker

I think it’s time to end the Gordon vs Mayo debate. Gordon can get three-ball happy, but he attacks the basket A LOT more than Mayo. He gets to the line a lot more than Mayo. In the 6-7 games played, he’s more than doubled Mayo’s free-throw attempts.
Gordon is better than Mayo. I don’t think it’s a debate anymore about who’s better now and who’ll be better in the future.

IndianaBasketballParticipantMayo is still more skilled, but he doesn’t have the physical tools (especially athleticism and explosiveness) that Gordon has, which hurts him defensively and being able to finish around the rim/get to the free-throw line.
It’s early, but I’m even seeing more combo guard ability from Gordon.

stanford hoopsHow is the debate ended?..gordan gets to the hoel more but look at the three point percentage 16percent so gordan is much better at getting in the lane while mayo has shown to be a much better shooter right now. gordan averages more points but only by 2 where hes the focal point of the offense. so what exactly makes it not debatable anymore?..clippers are still bad so his contributions isnt generating wins. Makes no sense to say its not debatable because gordan gets to the line more. Thats like me saying its not debatable because mayo shoots wayyyyyyyyyy better from three right now. 15percent from Three is ugly for a shooting guard

stanford hoopsAlso i still dont see the combo. gordan makes some good plays at the point when he just has to bring it up but once he has to run the offense and try to get everyone involved it doesnt look so pretty. simple turnovers and hes only getting 1.3 more ast than turnovers which isnt a good thing

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’m going more by the eye test. Gordon looks A LOT better than Mayo. And at both ends of the floor too. We both know that three-pointer is going to start falling, especially when Kaman starts playing better.
And since the ball has been in Gordon’s hands more, the Clippers have been a better team. Every team they’ve played has had a winning record. Por. GSW. Dal. SAS. Den. OKC. Utah. And other than the game vs GSW, they were in every one of those games. 6/7 were playoff teams last season.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantI’ve watched all of EG’s games while at IU and watched a lot of Mayo while at USC,…they are different players but have a lot of the same qualites…You keep forgeting that Mayo is the 3rd or 4th option on Offense in Memphis and actually helps that team win games…He got a key steal in a early season W, while Gordon pulls himself out of a game after he takes a phantom hit…He cried about his shoulder when I didn’t see him take a hit…I’d take Mayo all day long over Gordon…EG is constantly hurt, he was in college and now he’s been injury prone in the pro’s…How is this debate over….

stanford hoopswhich would make it youre opinion which isnt a clearn indication that its not debatable. by my eye test it is. gordan is shooting horribly from three but hes getting to the line because of drives. mayo is shooting nice from three but doesnt drive much. He doesnt have to drive/handle the ball much because he has mike conley at the point and rudy gay driving. Being in everyone of youre games means nothing if you dont win. thats what seperates a true super star (which neither is) because true super stars will/get there team that win in a close game. gordan runs some point now and some see the good plays but they dont seem to see the bad ones (i dont want my pg or back up pg averaging 1 ast better then turnovers). For me 1-6 just doesnt cut it. Hes still a good player no doubt but by looking at both play its very debateable. the margin is wide as far as gordan driving /getting to the line more but its even motre wider with mayo shooting the three better

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantAnd I think’s it easier to see then you think…
Better Scorer/Shooter/Passer/Defender/Creator…Mayo….
Gordon looks like he’d win an Ice Cream eating contest but In a one on one talent debate…Mayo wins hands down.
Mayo could run the point, don’t let that Summer League crap get in your minds…Mayo is a great ball handler and can get 7 assist at the point…Gordon can’t go left…Deron Williams played him left at the end of that game and what happened, Gordon gets off a rushed and ugly shot…

IndianaBasketballParticipantHow is it funny? Zach Randolph, Jared Jeffries, Sean May, Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Rodney Carney and Josh McRoberts are all from Indiana too. Other than Oden, you don’t see me pulling hard for any of those other guys. The point you’re trying to make is mute.
You do realize that Gordon played an entire half before going out with that shoulder injury, right? He took over that game offensively and defensively with that shoulder injury. Once again, your point is mute… As usual.

USC and UCLA players are just better than Indiana players…Name 1 hall of fame player from Indiana, I believe Bird played for Indiana State so forgive me if I’m wrong…I’ll wait while you goggle that…Bob Knight doesn’t count…He was a better sideshow act than a Coach….

stanford hoopsnow with that i dont agree. i dont think its hands down in either direction. i like mayo abnd i like gordan and i have no bias opinion because neither is from d.c its just a matter of preference to me. i like mayo better but im realistic to know how good gordan is and how close it is as far as better player. mayo is a very good ball handler and can play combo guard with time(as well as gordan) but i wouldnt want either player handling the point guard duties full time because neither is a point guard no matter how much we may like them. gordan played ok defense of dwill but got yanked around a couple of times. he can not guard dwill for awhole game although hes a good defender. thats not a slight because no one can really guard dwill for awhole game unless he happens to be off

IndianaBasketballParticipantObviously the debate isn’t over lol. Quincey and I used to argue about it all the time, so I was starting it back up.
And @scare crow…
DJ White isn’t even from Indiana. He’s from Alabama. He just went to college at IU. And why in the world are you getting into USC and UCLA having better players than Indiana? I don’t even care to debate you about that.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantall those guys left state …and for the most part all of them have had terrible NBA carrers…Zac is ball hogging stat whore…His best years equaled nothing in terms of real success in the League…He won’t be resigned by that team in Memphis either…I can see him going back to Indiana in Free Agency and then you can see 1st hand how worthless a 20/10 stat whore is…
Mayo is better than Gordon…Gordon get’s too much love because of his role in The USA basketball victory…He’s just a bigger Ben Gordon with a higher Basketball IQ…I used to think he could be more too…but he’s a scorer off the bench type, the Clippers have not won with him taking the majority of shots, have they…They need a real Sg, and then you’ll see Gordon play his true role…As a perfect 6th man…

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantUSC and UCLA players are a notch above any IU players, that’s historical fact…There are 3 active players from IU in the NBA…There are 3 players drafted from UCLA every year on average…There’s three players right now that will be getting drafted from UCLA…Mayo is a better player from a better school and system…Gordon is a great player, what part of me watching tons of IU games did you miss…I never thought Gordon was on Mayo’s level and NBA scouts felt the same way…That’s why Mayo was drafted ahead of Gordon and was in discussion to get taken 2nd after Rose…The Heat would make that pick if they had it to do all over again….

IndianaBasketballParticipantI don’t care to talk about Hall of Famers from IU lol.
Gordon did beat Mayo out for that spot though. It came down between those two and Gordon outplayed him. I don’t know how you can ignore that. And then Gordon went on to play a big role for Team USA, while Mayo was at home.
I don’t know what you’re watching, but Gordon is a two way player. He’s not Ben Gordon. Ben Gordon is a one way player… He’s just a scorer. He doesn’t defend. He doesn’t pass. He’s a tweener who just scores, which makes him ideal for the 6th man role.
So far this season, I see more improvement in Gordon’s game than I see in Mayo’s. Mayo is the same player as he was during high school and USC.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantI however have seen Mayo help his team win…He’s sacrificed his own stats so the Team can stay in the Playoff hunt the last two years…Mayo nearly averaged 20 points when he was given the reigns as a rookie…When they made that Randolph for Richardson trade Mayo’s shot attempts took a huge hit…If he was in LA in Gordon’s place he’d be a 23 ppg scorer…and would likely be starting Over Baron at the Pg and allowing the Clippers to draft SG in this deep draft…At Sg Mayo is a money outside shooter and can still get over 20 a game in a Ray Allen role…Gordon has just started playing Defense, something Mayo came into the league great at…Mayo looks good too early on, with Gordon literally falling apart in that 4th quarter/overtime against Utah, it looks like Eric could have used that rest huh…
