It really bothered me when he was on the Knicks and I saw a lot of guys on this site were downplaying his game and productivity because he was merely "a product of the system" and that his numbers and stats were inflated due to the style that the Knicks played. Well he is with Golden State this year, in a different system that is not run’ and gun due to Nelson’s departure ( Warriors fans are probably so thrilled). Anyway he has posted a double double so far in every game they have played and it is not like the Warriors are losing, they actually have a solid record (4-1). This is not an "I told you so post" but I would just like everyone to know that he was never a product of the Knicks system and is actually a very skilled player who plays with a lot of heart and passion and though he may not be the best defender, he does show effort to try and contain his man and I really believe the Warriors did a great job signing him to their team because they needed that low post presence who they could dump the ball down to and let him go to work and that is just what they got in David Lee.

I didnt understand it when guys said Lee was a product of D’Antonio’s system..When he was putting up nice numbers coming off the bench when Thomas was coaching them….

Thats like folks were saying Amare wouldnt be productive without Nash,Amare played well before Nash came to Phoenix….

I agree with what you are saying. I think in his case the system thing was overrated. Did it help? Of course. The more you run the more shot opportunities there are going to be as well as rebounds. I think that every year Lee has came in and added something to his game. He has way more range on his shot and has improved his passing every year. I haven’t gotten to watch him play this year, but I’m sure him playing the 4 has helped him out as well. He earned his time in the beginning by hustling up and down the court, but he did a lot to keep earning more and more time until he got himself in the starting role.

As far as D’Antoni’s system. It doesn’t look all that great without a great passer running it regardless. If you want to talk about a player that was a product and thrived in the system it was Shawn Marion. The two things he could do better than most guys was run, jump and finish and where he played a lot of 4, he was always faster than the guys he played against. He also benefitted from playing with two of the greatest passers of all time. This is a guy that for all of his physical gifts has no real basketball skills. He plays hard and works hard on defense, but he has not one ounce of real offensive skill and it’s a shame.

I didn’t understand that knock either. Some guys rebound well because of who they play with and their system, but some guys you can just tell can flat out hit the boards.  I thought it was pretty obvious Lee was one of those guys, but some people just didn’t want to take him seriously.

I really like David Lee as a player, as you guys have stated he is dedicated, skilled and hustles all the time and I really love that aspect of his game, it just frustrated me when last year he was one of the bright spots on the unsuccessful Knick’s team and guys were tearing him down saying he cannot defend, is only posting so many double doubles because of the run and gun but they never realized that David Lee no matter what system, is a solid player and can put up good numbers on almost any night, he is a double double machine and it is showing in this new Golden State system he can perform despite what type of offense.

David Lee is a VERY good plaeyer. He is NOT an all star thought.  I loved david lee’s game, but getting amare over him is a no brainer. Even the games Amare has struggled it opens up the floor for the Knicks because teams throw their whole defense at him. David Lee is more of a 3rd option complimentary player.

David is really good player and jsut short of an All Star but he is terrible on defense and is not a 1st or second option  for the most part.  He is a great rebounder and is good as that 3rd 4th or 5th guy.  He has got a nice jumper, is an average passer and can dribble drive on weak defenders.  I love what GSW are doing and I told people that this was a good move because many people said GSW was dumb but they knew what they were doing and that is why they also got rid of Nellie.  Amare is still a better player than Lee even though right he has started off terrible offensively and on the board but he is playing great defense.

It’s still to early to tell but the Warriors look like a playoff team.  Ellis isn’t just chucking anymore and David Lee has been huge.  Curry has started a little slow but I wouldn’t be to worried about it.  What will really matter is how healthy Andries Bedrins can stay all season.  Dorell Wright has been doing good too.

I like David lee. I used to think he was a product of his system untill I watched him more

Also Amare isn’t scoring as much nor is he as efficiant without Nash so far. Life is harder for him without Nash setting him up. He has to create more which has caused him to turn it over more

David Lee is proving the doubters wrong with GS right now. Even though he’s getting less touches, he still finds other ways to contribute and be productive. That’s a REAL baller right there.
