Toronto16ParticipantAm I the only one who thinks the media (especially ESPN) is making a big deal of John Wall doing the dougie the other night? The guy was just trying to have fun. The NBA needs more entertainment value anyway. And if he goes out and drops 28 points and 11 assists, who cares? If he keeps putting up those kinds of numbers, he can do the worm all over the arena and I wouldn’t care.

delfamParticipantit just shows a maturity issue, he’s not serious about himself or winning, or atleast that how it comes off. Obviously he’s still young so that’s a factor.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantWhat?? Everyone dances… Everyone… Because Wall dances doesnt show that he is anything other than comfortable with himself… Big deal… Go to a game and watch warmups… Guys dance.. Not everyone because everyone doesnt have a personality that allows them to dance… Quit making something out of nothing….

RUDEBOY_ParticipantLeave the guy alone..Let him do the Electric Slide on an Electric Fence if he wants..
Some guys need motivation in order to get up for each and every game…
You cant take that as not being serious..Ali clowned around before each and every fight, sometimes during fights..And he’s known as the best boxer of alltime…

IndianaBasketballParticipantI had no problem with the dance. It was just too long though. It’s a good thing he went out and had a good game.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI know its ridiculous. Last year I saw Dwill doing the chicken dance on the bench and I was laughing my head off but I didn’t care. I saw him sit in stands after a huge dunk and put his arms over two fans. He almost looked like he was taking a break and didn’t care. Did I care, no, I laughed, and watched him come back in and put on a show. Guys do this all the time. Shaq makes up new nicknames, gets the whole team to do something ridiculous as the starting lineup is being announced. But no one makes a big scene out of it. (I did not see Wall do this or the media acting up but I see what you mean.)

sheltwon3ParticipantThe media and people are over doing it. Haters. Also why should he be embarrassed. It was not like he can’t dance. I dont understand why he should feel bad. Also why is it more mature to not dance. What part of maturity is not dancing. What part of maturity is looking and acting serious to confirm to people you are actually serious. If you know you are serious why do you have to confirm to other people you are serious. Also basketball is a game where you probably play better when you are looser. When guys play tight they tend to overdo it or get hurt. You practice and train so that you can be crisp and on game days you just use that have fun with it. I guess it depends on your personality though because some people are always serious but that does not make them more mature.

sheltwon3ParticipantThey brought it up a lot for like 2 days but I think it was mainly because he played so well but you had some guys like Van Gundy mouthing off probably because he can not dance. Van Gundy is a hater and if he was right next to me I would tell him so. He would probably hate on me then but oh well I am nobody rich or famous.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantEveryone says Dwight clowns around before games and he’s the best center in the nba..Folks say he’s not physical but last year he sent more guys to the hospital almost more than the McRib sandwich does….

ultrablue123ParticipantJohn Wall to Dan Steinberg of the WASHINGTON POST on why he danced during Tuesday’s pregame introductions:
“Sam [Cassell] and [Manager of Team Services Jackie Miles] told me I needed to dance to get the crowd into it, so I did it for them.”

doubledribblerParticipantExcessive, dancing but not a crime. 8 turnovers is excessive, especially in the NBA where there seems to be no true pressuring. You generally bring the ball up with no deterent. In college some teams don’t even want to let you set up your offense. Back to the dancing though. People have to relax. He’s playing a kids game and he is still a kid. If the worst thing he does in his career is dance too much in pre-game introductions then I think we can all get over that. Anyone that has been in a locker room knows that guys will goof around. Sure you have those guys that do it that never get to play, but there are guys like Dwight Howard (who was mentioned) that know when it’s game time it’s game time. Don’t get me wrong, guys in the NBA still play around. Some guys trash talk and crack jokes. If you watch the old NBA games, players would go up to the ref about ridiculous (funny) stuff. Guys on the bench and floor laugh when someone loses their shoe or makes a goofy play. Being loose is a good thing when you are constantly traveling, practicing, playing, going to events required by your team or the NBA, etc.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIf he does it every game, than I might get worried. But for Christ’s sake, it was one time and he had a killer game. Only ESPN would bring up this as a big story and make it WAY more newsworthy than it deserves to be.

ChewyParticipantwhen the NBA outlawed IPods during warmups. Whats wrong with listening to your own music while getting ready for a game?
The NBA hates both dancing and music and well… anything else that might be considered fun.

durantula83ParticipantESPN is on some bullshit. Thrashing a rookie for showing he’s HAPPY to be playing basketball, for living a dream that thousands of kids dream of? John Wall loves having fun, he just shows he’s a positive young guy that loves playing basketball and KNOWS he’s blessed. With doing the dougie he just shows he’s not taking himself too serious. When you’re feeling good, then you’re feeling good, no harm in showing it, is there?
