JNixonParticipantMizzou is my choice to be the 2nd best team in the Big 12 next year. They really have big-time depth, and with the D they play they should be able to create offense well, and off of their defense as well.
Scotty Hopson looks to have a good season next year after underachieving a bit his 1st 2 years. His experience against the guys from the NBA in FIBA practice should make him a better player. I’m sure he’s been working on his handle and D.

JNixonParticipantLook for San Diego State to win. They will be a good team this year. Probably a top 25 team at various points of the season. They have a prospect in Kawhi Leonard that is athletic and can defend PG’s-PF’s at 6’7 220. They have more athleticism on their roster than alot of high major teams do

PITTSBURGH—Junior Ashton Gibbs scored a game-high 25 points and senior Brad Wanamaker added a double-double (18 points, 10 assists) as the No. 5-ranked Pitt basketball team cruised past NAIA Division II Northwood, Fla. for a 104-62 exhibition win on Sunday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center. The victory marked Pitt’s 23rd consecutive exhibition win and improved Head Coach Jamie Dixon to 15-0 all-time in exhibition games.
“It’s a good starting place for us,” said Dixon, who is in his eighth year as Head Coach at Pitt. “We had some good performances.”
Pitt jumped out to a 23-0 lead early before Northwood’s Tyrone Davis hit a floater from the right side of the lane with 11:33 remaining in the first half. Northwood then made a run of its own to cut Pitt’s lead to 15, but Gibbs scored on consecutive possessions to bring the Panthers’ lead back to 20.
Pitt maintained the lead from there and led 48-26 at the half. Gibbs and Wanamaker combined for 29 points, seven assists and just one turnover in 28 total first-half minutes.
“I feel as though in the first 20 minutes we played good defense,” said Wanamaker, who finished the game with 18 points and a game-high 10 assists. “We got in transition and kind of took it away from them.”
The second half saw much of the same offensively for Pitt, as Gibbs opened up the period with consecutive 3-pointers to increase the lead. Gibbs finished the day 8-12 from the floor and connected on 5-8 3-point attempts. True freshman forward J.J. Moore scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half.
“He brings a lot of energy,” Dixon said of Moore. “I think that’s the thing that really attracted us to him.”
Redshirt freshman forward Talib Zanna added 13 points in the effort and pulled in a game-high nine rebounds. Redshirt sophomore guard Travon Woodall added 10 points and nine assists. The Panthers totaled 29 assists on 35 field goals made.
Pitt’s five starters included Gibbs, Wanamaker and Woodall at the guard spots, Zanna at forward and senior Gary McGhee at center. McGhee had seven points and four rebounds in 19 minutes of play.
Jonathan Dunn paced the Seahawks with 24 points. Northwood, which is ranked No. 12 nationally in the NAIA Division II preseason poll, is coached by Rollie Massamino, a 35-year college basketball coaching vet who guided Villanova to the 1985 national title.
“He’s an icon in our league and nationally,” Dixon said of Massamino. “He’s had quite a career.”
Pitt is back in action on Thursday night when it hosts Indiana, Pa., at the Petersen Events Center for the season’s second exhibition game. IUP is coached by former Pitt assistant Joe Lombardi, who led the Crimson Hawks to a berth in the NCAA Division II national championship game last year. Tipoff for that contest is set for 7 p.m.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Rakeem Buckles had 18 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Gorgui Dieng added 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Louisville men’s basketball team earned an 83-66 exhibition win over Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at the new KFC Yum! Center.
Buckles, a forward from Miami, Fla., was 6-for-11 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line to lead the Cardinals, who shot 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the field in the win. Dieng, a center from Kebemer, Senegal, was 6-for-8 from the field in his U of L debut, which came just five days after he was cleared by the NCAA and began practicing with the team.
"It was a good first game for us," said Louisville head coach Rick Pitino. "We got exactly what we wanted out of the first half and then we broke down from a conditioning standpoint. We’re in good shape but not in the shape to play this style of basketball. In the first half, they did a great job."
Joining Buckles and Dieng as double-figure scorers on Sunday for Louisville were senior guard Preston Knowles with 11 points and sophomore guard Mike Marra with 10 points. The Cardinals finished with a dominating 55-26 advantage on the glass, and U of L held the NCAA Division II Norse to just 36.5 percent (23-for-63) shooting from the field.
Louisville raced out to a 46-25 halftime lead after shooting 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the field and holding NKU to just 24.2 percent (8-for-33) shooting during the first 20 minutes of action. The Cardinals cooled off a bit in the second half and saw their advantage trimmed to as little as nine (59-50, 6:09) before back-to-back three-point baskets by sophomore guard Peyton Siva and Knowles keyed an 11-2 run to push the Louisville advantage back to double-digits for good.
U of L will play its second and final exhibition game of the season on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. ET against Kentucky Wesleyan at KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals will open the regular season against 2010 NCAA runner-up Butler on Nov. 16 at 8 p.m., ET at the KFC Yum! Center.

http://www.butlersports.com/sports/m-baskbl/2010-11/releases/103010aab
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — Senior Matt Howard scored a game-high 19 points and teammate Ronald Nored added 14 to lead #17/18 Butler to a 90-70 victory over visiting Florida Southern in an exhibition men’s basketball game at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday, Oct. 30, afternoon. The game was Butler’s first 2010-11 test.
Howard scored 12 points and Nored added nine in the first half, while helping Butler to a 45-37 halftime lead. The two then combined with teammate Shawn Vanzant to score Butler’s first 18 points of the second half, sparking the Bulldogs to a 16-point lead, 63-47. Florida Southern never got closer.
"I thought there were some good moments, and I thought there were some moments we need to work on," said Butler head coach Brad Stevens after the game.
The game didn’t look like it would have a double-digit outcome in the first half. The Moccasins, ranked fifth in Division II, hit seven of their first nine shots in the game and actually led just over six minutes into the contest, 15-14. But Howard and senior Zach Hahn fueled a 12-2 Butler run with six points apiece to give Butler the lead for good. The Bulldogs led by as many as 12 points in the first half, before settling for the eight-point halftime margin.
"Without being to break it down (on video), I thought (our execution) was okay. I thought we got outside of ourselves a little bit at times when we had other things going well early. We need to figure out what’s going well and how to capitalize on it," noted the Butler coach.
Stevens was able to use all 14 players in the game, and 11 cracked the scoring column. Vanzant finished with 11 points, while Hahn, who hit three of three three-point field goals, junior Shelvin Mack and sophomore Andrew Smith, who was given his first collegiate start, each added nine. Howard led the Bulldogs in rebounding with seven, while Mack had a game-high six assists.
Andre Hawkins and Brandon Jenkins each scored 16 points, while Terry Jenkins added 13 for Florida Southern, coached by former Purdue player Linc Darner.
The Bulldogs will play their second and final preseason exhibition game against Indiana foe Hanover on Thursday, Nov. 4. That game at Hinkle Fieldhouse will start at 7 p.m.
