llperezjust saw this. Jason started the last two preseason games for philly averaging 14ppg on 11-19 shooting and 5-10 from three point land in 23 minutes per game. A lot fo people figured young, nociconi or turner would get that other starting wing spot next to iguodala. What do you guys think?
I like the fact that he stretches the floor which is exactly what philly needs. Iggy, holiday and brand all want to get into the paint and operate. However, Kapono doesnt bring defense and that will be as evident as ever tonight against the heat where he will likey gaurd either james or wade. Unless coach collins puts holiday on wade, iggy on james and lets kapono try and keep up with the arroyo/house combo.

sammybuckeye13Participantthey really do need a shooter in that lineup…having a 1,2,3 (Holiday/Turner or Young/Iggy) that can’t really shoot, you need someone who can shoot to spread the D. Necessary sacrifice of talent for production.

PureshooterParticipantI’m pretty surprised. I would’ve picked Nocioni to start at the beginning of the season with Turner taking over the starting role later on, but I would’ve picked Kapono to be 3rd in the rotation. He did have a good preseason, but he must be showing them something in practice as well to get the starting spot on opening night.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThis wont be a permament lineup..I say around game 10 or 15,they’re put the guys that are playing the best into the lineup..The only 2 guys that will be in the starting lineup the entire season are Iggy & Brand if he stays healthy, everyone else will be moved in & out..
Kapono has never played with any consistency in his career….

the microwaveParticipantjrue holiday will start the season as the starter, and end it as the starter.. He is already a top 2 player on that team in my opinion…
I personally agree with what someone said above… Jrue, iggy, nocioni, brand, and hawes to me is the best lineup.. Nocioni can shoot, AND hustles his behind off, and will instantly be a fan favorite in philly.. Im not comparing the two, but nocioni gets at it, kind of how lunch pail Reggie Evans used too.. There games are not the same at all, but my pt is he will be loved in Philly from the door like reggie was! Philly loves that blue collar mentality.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantwhy not start Holiday at The 2 and Iggy at the 3 and let Lou Will chase down Arroyo and spread the floor at the 1…That’s the best match up for Miami…
Williams on Arroyo…Holiday on Wade…Iggy and Lebron…Brand( Though I’d actualy start Speights) on Bosh and Hawes on Anthony…I’d run Brand out there with the 2nd unit ala Haslem…now I wouldn’t start Lou often but for the Heat and potential matchup problems insert him into the Lineup…Turner can back up 1 through 3…Kapono is too slow on the perimeter to defend Arroyo …although Arroyo doesn’t bring the ball all the time as we’ve seen last night…

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantHoliday is the future franchise player for Philly at the Pg, he’s not being benched for Lou Will or Evan Turner at any point this season…He’ll be the guy we have to defend the best guard every night…and he’ll score on his matchup on offense…

delfamParticipantYou can’t start Lou instead of Kapono since there would be no spacing on the floor, Sixers like to attack the rim so they need that guy to spread the defense out.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantto be Honest Its about the match ups…You have to put Holiday on Wade for most of the game…Iggy has to stay in front of Lebron( or try his best to ) you can’t have a drop off on D because you put Kapono on Arroyo or Lebron potentialy if you defend straight up and play team D..Paul Pierce isn’t the fasted guy and does Ok on Lebron…Kapono is just too questionable on D for my liking…Love his shot and UCLA backround but C’Mon Thad or Noci are the better choices…both bring Offense and Noci can be a pest and rebounds well for a SF/PF …Thad is the 6th man so I see trying to get a starter…Why not just start Turner as planned…
Holiday(lock down defender/pure point that scores) Has to defend Wade tonight
Turner(the 2nd pick needs game time experience year 1..) Has to play Arroyo as tight as he can and slash
Iggy(we don’t need to say what this guy does and means for the Team) Has to bring D tonight and every night
Brand( if Brand can bang down low and rebound and defend the post we’ll have a solid front court rotation)
Hawes( he simply needs to play to his full potential because Philly will not allow half hearted effort from guys with the potential of Hawes…needs to become Brad Miller2 soon…
Lou*(Instant Offense/Combo guard), Kapono(3 point specialist, play him like Kyle Korver, Thad*(Lefty 6th man/Hybrid Forward/freak athlete), Nocioni(vet/defender/tough nose hybrid forward), Speights (Better step up and take Brand’s spot) and Battie( veteran big man/defender/mentor ) on the Bench…

SwatLakeCityParticipantYou know, I like that Sixer lineup with Jrue playing the 2 and lu Will playing the Point. I never liked starting Kapono. Good shooter but horrible defender. Lu is not as of a shooter as Kapono but he can still hit the 3 and plays much better defense then Lu ever would. Nocioni could work too at the 3. Much better than Kapono on D. Then again I am not a big fan of using a small starting lienup (I like to have my starting be at least 6’5-6’8, I’m not a big fan of going and starting a 6’3 2 guard) But it would be interesting.
Which lineup is better: Williams, Holiday, Iggy, Speights/Brand, Hawes or Holiday, Iggy, Nocioni, Speights/Brand, Hawes

Zeke33ParticipantWhy is this so confusing? Kapono is a good player. Hes not AS good as young or noccioni but dont forget this guy played great in Miami and was a part time starter for them. Hes starting but young and maybe noccioni will get more PT. i think young and noccioni play better coming off the bench and change the pace of the game

Mr. 19134ParticipantThis is terrible Doug Collins is effing up and the first game didn’t even tip off yet. Kapono is like the 4th best small forward on the team with Young, Iggy, Turner, and Nocioni all being better options.
Their is no doubt the Sixers best starting lineup this preseason was Holiday, Turner, Iggy, Young, and Brand at the 5. This lineup would work too against the Heat being able to hustle and run and being everybit as athletic overall at the players the Heat got on the court.
Turner better get atleast over 25 minutes instead of the inexcusable 18 minutes they gave him in the final preseason game. That was Michael Curry I dunno what he was thinking the last chance for Turner to get some confindence going into the season and you only play 18 minutes in a 27 blowout win of the Knicks. We were playing the freaking Knicks he should of started and got some confidence as a scorer playing against their defense.
I am already hating the Sixers coaching staff

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantEh, it’s game 1. I feel Turner overall had a bad preseason and there was talk he was bad in practice attitude wise (similar to his days in Ohio St as a freshman). I wouldn’t start anyone who’s been a DIVA in practice.
Also, Kapono is alright. He can shoot the ball and gives them that next to Iggy. Philadelphia was one of the worst 3 point shooting teams last season if I remember correctly and he’s on the books for 4 seasons- might at well see what’s up and if you can use him down the road.
The Sixers and Wizards at least to me have been a little overrated this postseason.

HitsterParticipantKapono would not seem a logical starter against Miami maybe against more open teams like Toronto, Phoenix, Knicks etc. Doug Collins in preseason seemed to favour Brand, Iggy, Holliday and Young as 4 of his starters with the 5th position up for grabs. Nocioni would have seemed the logical choice if they want to bring Turner from the bench to start with and Williams being a proven bench player. Also Hawes only played two games and there will come a time soon when he or Speights may have to have a breakout season or the likes of Brackins could challenge Philly are rebuilding and a lot depends on whether they keep Iggy or not because if they do then PG to SF with Holliday, Turner and Iggy looks good for the future with Williams, Kapono and Nocioni providing good back up, they still need a young big to step up and to sort out the Brand situation so it may be a long season for Philly before things start getting better but they do have a decent young core developing.

OhCanada-ParticipantI give them about 5 minutes until they realize how much of a defensive liability Kapono really is. Possibly the worst defensive player in the league and possible the best spot up 3 point shooter.
