Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThis is a simple question that requires extended answers. Don’t leave stupid comments like "h3’s the gr3at3st of 4ll tIme!"
I need people to explain themselves so I am able to share their point of view. Now here goes the question:
Let’s just say.. Kobe goes to the 90s and Jordan plays in the 2000’s.
Kobe puts up his average 25ppg, 5rpg, 5apg in 15 years and wins 6 NBA Championships going 6/6.
Jordan plays in the 2000’s, he puts up his averages of 30ppg, 6rpg, 5apg and wins 5 NBA Championships with 2 Finals MVPs.
Jordan still hits all those big shots and has all of his great moments, but instead of having them in the 90s, he has them in the 2000s
Same with Kobe, he hits all those big shots, has that 81pt game and all his other games and moments, but in the 90s.
Who’s the G.O.A.T.?

andxxxParticipantJordan was more efficient and stepped up in big moments there have been times where Kobe has choked or not played up to his standard in big moments (2008 Celtics gm 6, 2010 celtics gm 7)
When Jordan had 30+ field goal attempts he wins 57.8% of his games.
When Kobe does that he wins 43% of his games

billykParticipantWhat if SHAQ could shoot freethrows… Doesnt make sense Kobe’s game (style, swag, fadeaway, attitude) was patterned off of Jordan…

llperezmidwest, why you gotta bring up kobe struggling to make the playoffs? They were in full on rebuilding mode and that shouldnt reflect negatively on kobe’s career. Kobe was drafted by a good veteran team and it was innevitable that they would eventually have to rebuild. KObe did everything he could with what he had. Jordan came to a young team that was built around him and then he never had to go through a rebuilding stage when he was in his prime.

midwestbbscoutParticipantI agree, its hard to compare but its still fact…..comparing anyone to MJ as a winner is almost impossible save Bill Russell…

hiphopismylifeParticipantIts not even anything statistical that makes MJ the GOAT. Thats where people get mistaken, even though he was better statistically than Kobe. It’s the fact that he played at a certain level, then when the bar was raised, he could go even higher. His appeal in my opinion is the fact that he didnt completely dominate any team in the finals. Each series was a challenge and five out of his six finals appearances went six games. He wasn’t out sweeping teams, that would make it more debateable. Instead he was really being tested and pushed, but in the closing moments always came through. His competitiveness and will was on another level. Thats part of his aura, the fact that we dont know how much better he would have been had there been even greater challenges in front of him.

ChrischiParticipant6x champ
5x MVP
Unbeatable stats. 30-5-5 with over 50% for a guard??? sick
one of the best guard defender
countless game winning shots
and he did all that in a period where it wasn’t that easy and where basketball was totally professial and in its "prime", what i mean by that:
wilt scored 100 in a game and oscar robertson averaged a triple double, could they do it again in todays game or in the 90’s
NEVER! Sorry, no disrespect but NEVER!

whyyouhatingParticipantIn the big moments MJ was at his best.
He kept some of the best center ( the position that wins chips) from wining all with out have a top center or a low post scorer on his team.
When the light were on he never did not shine.
He amazed you ever game in the area with the most top 50 played.
He willed his teams to wins.

ChewyParticipantwithout having a dominant big man. Jordan did it six times. Isiah and Dumars did it twice. Billups/Hamilton/Prince did it once (if you don’t count Sheed as a dominant big at that time).
You NEED a domiant big man to win a championship in the NBA and those above are the only exceptions. Jordan, as a guard, led his team past all those great big men (Robinson, Ewing, Hakeem, Shaq). That is why he is and always be above Kobe.
That and all the stats that people have already mentioned above…

midwestbbscoutParticipantlook what happened when Jordan gave everyone else a chance for 2 years…..
NBA Finals = Hakeem vs. Ewing and Hakeem vs. Shaq
then when he gave everyone another chance = Duncan/Robinson win it all and then Shaq peels off 3 straight…..chewy gets points for that one….
