RUDEBOY_ParticipantI missed the 1st 3 quarters of Utah -Lakers game sunday night..But turned in during the 4th quarter..I was SHOCKED to see Hayward about to go to the free-throw line and he already had 22 points..Were my eyes Deceiving me? Hayward has 22 points in a nba game?!!! I know alot of people might say its only a preseason game..But after struggling the Gordon Hayward during the 5 previous games averaging only 6 points-2assists-2rebounds.. I’m so happy recorded the game..Hayward seemed comfortable sunday night. He put the ball on the floor, rebounded the ball, wasn’t afraid to attack the basket, more relaxed taking his shots and played with confidence..He’s going to be inconsistent this year..But Hayward looks like he will become a star in the future…..

llperezi thought he looked great. He defenitely impressed me. But im not gonna throw the term star out there based on 1 preseason game.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI don’t think he’ll be a star, but he’ll be a very good player. I think he can be a Brent Barry type (with the Sonics) minus the hops.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think people are underestimating how good Brent Barry was in his quality years plus his ability to play point guard in a spot. Utah system is perfect for Hayward and I already called that before this game in the preseason that is somehow justifying him as a top 10 but I still stand that he was a late first early 2nd round pick and for a top 10 pick, he is a bust. Even if he has a few decent game in the regular season, he is a role player and will never be anything more than that and there were players after him that will be a lot better and have star potential. It is funny how one game can take away my creditibility on what I said but I can bring stats to the table and people say how stats only show so much. I did not see this game but I am pretty sure he got a lot of good looks out of their offense and they played him 33 minutes which is something a lot of regular starter has yet to play up to. They were trying to get him shots and he got them and scored. Kobe scored 19 in one quarter in which he played yet Hayward scoring 26 point in 33 minutes in which he would appear he got more shots than the guys we know should be shooting come regular season did. It is funny how much a person reaches to prove their point. His overall stats and this game plus his skill level still says early 2nd round or late 1st to me. There are other guys that did not go as high as him that yall hold to higher standards.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantThe Jazz did draft Hayward higher than he should have gone but he was a great fit…Henry and Babbit are better individual talents but in Utah Babbit would have had to play better defense and rebound like a Pf in order for Sloane to like him…The Warriors were actually the team that should have drafted Babbit…Henry will make a lot of teams mad they passed on him…Utah and The Warriors will be 2 of them…D Will and Steph Curry could have used a great young shooting guard on their teams…Warriors could have either moved Henry to the Sf spot or had Ellis become the 6th man(which would be better for all parties) Curry and Henry would have been a Cassel/Allen combo and Ellis could then become trade bait for a Big Dog type Sf…combo guards are falling out of trees days…

sheltwon3ParticipantScare Crow that is all i originally said was that Hayward should not have gone that high and he should have been a late 1st rounder or early second. The craziness that followed that remark makes it seem that I hate Gordon which is not the case. I see Indiana saying everything I was saying early about this dude. When he was arguing with me, he was talking this guy as an All Star or quality starter. That will never be the case, he will be a role player and possibly really good 6 man type. He will probably be able to give them what they lost in Korver going to Chi town but in will not happen this year though. I still think Babbitt is going to be a better player. Babbitt has more to his game than shooting open jumper and he has the physical size to play in the NBA and not get pushed around. Hayward does not even shoot 3’s like Korver. I would not even take Korver with a number 10 possibly 15 or 16 because he brings 3 point shooting. I think some of yall need to read my first posts about Hayward.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantHe’s young and versatile and he can actually lead at times by example,..the Jazz could have gotten tricky and drafted Henry or Aldrich(who I hated coming out of college) and then made a move to get Hayward a little bit later on by moving a CJ Miles or Wes Mattews(at the time…man he got over paid)
I do get what your saying about him being drafted higher than he was supposed to…but I think Teams should draft more like the Draft and get guys that will actually have roles and last in certain systems…a Guy like Babbit is better at shooting and rebounding and dunking and could be a great 6th man for an Offensive minded Team like the Warriors or Clippers but in the Jazz’s system he would have been lost in the sauce…I think the biggest reach even though i loved the Nightmare was the Warriors drafting Udoh 6th…I think they should have drafted Henry or Monroe…I have to think they want Perry Jones this year and plan on building around the Baylor boys…they may even be the Team that gives Dunn his NBA shot…
The Team that drafted Hayward is what makes that pick a good pick…If the Spurs had the 9th pick and drafted him it would a good move too…The Jazz didn’t need to reach for a Franchise player or all star…they got the best player to play in their system this year…I can’t argue that…Sloane is a hall of fame coach and runs his team the right way…If he says Hayward was a decent pick then so be it…I still would want Henry,Patterson and Babbit over Hayward but I’d love Hayward too…My only beef was they could have gotten them both…I think Hayward would have been around at 16 and the Wolves traded that pick to Blazers for Martel Webster…The Jazz could have gotten Hayward for Wes Mattews…Then With Raja/AK/Henry and Hayward they’d have youth and experience at the wing spots…

SwatLakeCityParticipantWhat about Paul George, Utah should have drafted him instead of Hayward. He played great yesterday but like sheltwon said he will be a role player. That may have been all that Utah needed. But they still could have drafted a better role player. Like say Paul George or Xavier Henry.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantYeah, Utah should’ve drafted George..But i knew there was a 95% chance they would go after either Hayward or Babbitt….I think D-Will would rather have had George or Henry..

sheltwon3ParticipantI agree, I did not make the Brent Barry comparisons. I thought they were off because Barry is a whole different player. I need to see Hayward more to see what legit comparisons he is. I think his role will be similiar to Korver and Bryan Russell on offense for the Jazz. I don’t see him making the 3 pointers they did but if he can knock down 18 to 20 footers, he should do well off the bench.

sheltwon3ParticipantIt is too early to say who is wrong or right about Hayward and also if Hayward proves to be this great player, I will admit that I was wrong but right now I have a hard time believing that will happen.

I like Hayward in the Jazz system. I would have rather had Cole Aldrich, but Hayward is, well… Like what everybody else has been saying.
