The Splash DocParticipantKobe isnt getting any younger but has the tools to keep going for a few more years but LA needs to bring in a young SG and put him behind KObe and let him learn from the Best Player in the League players I think LA has a chance at getting are
Demar Derozan- during his FA period they could throw a nie deal at him and Toronto might not try and out due the Lakers and he is from Compton
Nick Young- not as young but is attainable he’s from Southern Cal and has the size like Kobe and isnt immature anymore
I’m not saying any of these guys can be the next Kobe but teams make these mistakes by not putting a young guy behind a vet to learn. Football teams do this well just think of Drew Brees and Philip Rivers or Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Kobe is a lifetime Laker so he will always be willing to mold a young guy into what he can see as the future of the franchise he loves

LazarusMunozParticipantim not sure LA is at the point where there looking to groom a shooting guard to take Kobe’s place when he retires! Kobe is gonna play a few more years that most people expect! I think he’s gonna have a really really tough time walking away from the game!

kurtu17Participantnaww not none of those guys….maybe a player that is nown for his hard work and dedication to the game….im not saying these players are dumb..but i never heard anyone saying that these guys are living in the gym…otherwise with all this talent that they have they would be in a better position that they are in…

billykParticipantIf the Lakers bring in a player I believe it should be through the draft, but expect Kobe to play atleast 5 more years..

TyroberParticipantThe Lakers arent going to be offering much to anybody .They are maxed out for quite a few years with the leagues highest payroll. The new CBA could hurt them even more if a hardcap is put in place. They certainly arent going to outbid anyone and steal a young player away

SteroidParticipantKobe is going to be playing at an elite level until he’s 35 just as long as he gets his rest during the summers, and he doesn’t get any crazy/odd injuries…

JoeWolf1Yeah, Kobe is only 30 years old, he has had 13 years of pro basketball wear on his legs, but I think he can be a 20+ ppg scorer until he in his late 30’s. It’s really up to him as to how long he wants to play. I agree with you guys saying he’ll have a hard time walking away. If they bring someone in now to "groom" them to take Kobe’s spot they could end up coming off the bench for another 7 years. Re-signing a guy who could start for a handfull of other teams who is sitting behind an aging Kobe Bryant would be damn near impossible. It’s not a bad idea, but waiting about 3 or 4 years would be a better idea, IMO.

d-grizzlyParticipantkobe’s actually 32 years old. i don’t think L.A fans should worry, really. the lakers always go and get stars to play for them. they go 1-2 years with losing records and then become back in contending for a title quickly.

Da1potParticipantKobe may be an "old" 30 with lots of mileage, but I find it very hard to believe he will decline at the same rapid pace some other superstars have. Jordan averged 19.5 ppg when he was 39 years old. I can see Kobe putting up very similar numbers at the age. Barring injury he should be able to maintain superstar status for 5-7 more years.

llperezwhats the piont in grooming anyone when its gonna be minimum of 4 years befor they start? Do you guys realize how much can happen in the next 4-5 years?

d-grizzlyParticipanti don’t see any point in grooming someone to replace kobe. when kobe retires, they’re just gonna bring in a young all star SG to replace him.

flybobbyflyParticipantThis team is not going to built for the long haul. They are going to be put together to win as many championships as they can in the next 5 years. Which is the right thing for them to do also. If they were to become a team that is focused on what happens after they lose kobe, instead of focus everything on winning the championship every year, you could expect phil jackson to resign as head coach.
As far as a young player to learn behind kobe. whats wrong with shannon brown? you cant really beat the guys potential

kurtu17Participantno i think shannon brown had his chance…i just cant see him being a star or anythin more then he is now…and 2nd or 3 option of the bench…

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantOJ Mayo or Derozen like some might be thinking along the lines of are out of the question…Nick Young could grow into that Big Pg in LA…why not take a flier on him…although he may have another run o another team before he gets to that point…I could see that happening…but No Oj/Derozen type of thing…
