Yesterday during training camp Pacers coach announced he was starting Josh McRoberts at power forward..With very few options on their current roster..Thats not a bad idea for the short term..But i also expect them to play Granger at that position and Hansbrough when he’s healthy..Rookie Magnum Rolle played well in summer league..and is the team’s most athletic front court player…Jeff Foster started a few games there last season but he’s battling an injury..So whoever is playing the best will start..

McRoberts does alot of little things that dont show up in boxscores..For a big man he’s capable of bringing up the ball..He’s a good passer, decent rebounder and runs the floor well…In an April game against Houston he had career highs of 18 points and 13 rebounds..And McRoberts think he’ll continue to improve…I expect him to average 10 points and 6 rebounds..

McRoberts doesn’t get the respect he deserves but he shouldn’t be a starter.  As a Pacer fan, their best bet would be to start Foster at the beginning of the season and when Hansbrough looks like he’s good to go work him into the starting lineup.

You have some problems at the PF spot if you have Josh McRoberts starting there. Or playing more than 15 mpg. That’s all I’m going to say.

If McRoberts is starting don’t expect to make a playoff run…But you never know McRoberts at one point was the number one ranked player in his class…He got a lot of skill and is a good passer which will fit well in O’Brians offense…He’ll get up and down the court too and add mobility to that front line….

You never know what a guy is capable of untill he is giving the chance and if he does win the Power Forward spot in training camp then by all means the guy deserves to be the starter, on that team…McRoberts has a fantastic skill set and does all the small things so he should bring many contributions over the course of the game…

For some reason I just think Jason Thompson is a perfect fit on their team and that the Pacers should try and trade for him.

If Josh McRoberts is a starting power forward, the team is probably not any good. If Josh McRoberts is starting for the Pacers, it means Danny Granger is not playing at the position that he is at his best playing.

Foster is coming off of back surgery. Hansbrough is coming off of a couple of mysterious injuries. Josh is the starter by default.

I don’t have that big of a problem with it. It’s not like he’s going to play 30 minutes per game. Granger can still play his usual amount of minutes at that position. The lineup to close out games will be Collison, Dunleavy Jr., Posey, Granger and Hibbert.

Other than Magnum Rolle, Josh is probably the second most athletic big on the team. He’ll hustle and bring a little of versatility at the four.

He’s not starter material, but let’s give him a chance. The Pacers really don’t have too many options.

than there are in Conseco on any given game night. LOL.

McRoberts will be fine if he just hits the boards and runs the floor. Unfortunately, O’Brien wants him to shoot and make plays for others. He’s a fine passer, but I want my point guard to run the offense, not my power forward. He’ll probably play 20-25 min a night and average around 8 and 6 with a blk.

I’ve been hearing his name for so long its hard to believe he’s only 23.

I will say this until the day i die that Steve Wojohowski can not/should not be a big man coach. Josh McRoberts did have all the tools to be a lottery pick he just didnt have the right mentor to help his game develop.

He didn’t have the work ethic to develop his game.

Josh’s game didn’t develop because he had a poor attitude and didn’t have the greatest work ethic. He also lacked confidence.

He’s changed though, so hopefully he’ll take advantage of this chance.

Tezo you should know better then anyonethat Granger dislikes playing the 4. This should be good for the Pacers too see if they have a keeper in either Hansborough or MCroberts. He played very well during summer league, and was the team leader of that event making great basketball plays and displaying a good iq. I predicted this move earlier in the season, Mcroberts definitely isnt a starter yet in thios league but he should be capable of being an exceptional rotation player.

    FROM A FEW MONTHS AGO

In the 6 games Josh McRoberts played 25+ MPG the pacers went 4-Wins and 1-Loss. Okay 5 games may be deceptive but its still on the record that they did do better when he plays more.In those games he averaged 29 mpg, 12ppg 8rpg 1.6apg 1.6spg and 1.6 bpg. He looks like a very good piece chemistry wise and he looks improved in alot of ways on the court.

Also we saw Amir Johnson get 7 Mil a year for his limited playing time and Mcrobert’s is coming to his contract year so if Indiana doesnt give him minutes they could see him walk for someone who is interested…Give him 25+ minutes the first 10 games consecutively see how it goes and if it doesnt work from there stop doing it.I think he could be a MOST IMPRVED PLAYER Candidate and a true blue collar leader for Indiana btw WHERE IS TYLER HANSBOROUGH FOR THIS SUMMER LEAGUE TEAM. IS HE STILL INJURED?

Indiana will make another trade I am thinking but for now they will use McRoberts.  I think with Collison, Granger and some others, they can afford to let him play as long as he does not jack stuff up like in summer league.

More than ever they need to get a top 5 pick and invest in a PF for the Future…All that Cap ain’t going buy a top 5 pick…Maybe playing Josh McLovin makes them the worst team in the NBA..they are young expecy for Ford and Foster and this might be the year they actually suck all the way and not just stay out of the top while never being a real threat to make the playoffs…

    @OhCanada-

You’re mistaken. Granger doesn’t "dislike" playing power forward. I’m not going to take it as far as BothTeamsPlayedHard and say that Granger prefers to play power forward, but it’s true… He’s successful at that position offensively.

He can run and stretch the floor and maybe block a shot but he’s in a bad spot when The Gasols and Duncans of the world post that ass up…He’s best as a SF and in spot minutes at PF…starting him there would be a bad move but is a better option than McRoberts…Starting J Mac means they want a top ten pick this year and then a Big Free Agency this summer…

McRoberts is a solid and underrated forward. People that are saying he isn’t any good apparantly haven’t seen him play that much. He may not be a star but this guy is no liability either, he’s solid, athletic for a tall white guy, rebounds, plays defense and will score some points in the flow of the game. He really hasn’t gotten a shot in his career yet to prove he can play decent minutes so it’s a make or break case here for him this year.

even he blows everyone away with his play, is he a difference maker at the PF spot…I still think they Draft Kanter or Sullinger in the lottery… this year will be rough for Pacers fans…rough but worth it if they get a Top 3 PF in the draft

I really would like to see Foster play some because of how good a defender and rebounder  he is and how much he could help with the "dirty work." My guess though is that he will probably be traded to a contender at the trade deadline. He is a role player on a championship contending team as far as I’m concerned, and if he is healthy, I think a lot of team would show interest- especially with his $6.6 million expiring contract.

Offensively Granger loves to play power forward becaus there are very few power forwards in the league who can actually guard him on the perimeter, where he excels most.

i dont know how hes gonna do but if he would have left after his freshmen year he would have been a top 5 pick. Either way its nice to see him from 2nd round in the draft to starting power foward, hopefully he will make the most ofit.

josh mcroberts game. i like the way duke utilized his playmaking skills, which are underrated for a 4.

he can get jumper friendly sometimes, but he’s not that bad as people say he is.

everyone falls in love with scoring, and right now, scoring isn’t his best feature.. but he’s versatile imo.

Actaully last year I remember him complaining because Obrien was playing him at the 4 and he was frustrated because he wanted to play more 3. I vividly remember that because the same night I heard it he was lined up against CB4 and he pushed him lol. He also recently stated he would rather get someone else to platy the 4 because he is not a true 4.

"I can play (power forward) but I’m not a true (power forward). So we’re definitely going to have to add another big, and I think that will be our main focus."

The problem with Josh being a starter to me is he doesn’t really do any one thing above average on the court. He sorta suffers from that Lamar Odom syndrome in that he does everything ok, which is why McRoberts is very inconsistent and you see him fill up the stat sheet one night, then do nothing the next. If he was, for example, a great rebounder, then we’d know night in, night out we could rely on him for a high amount of rebounds. I like his game though, has worked on it, and has been able to stick around in this league, cause he has natural talent and atleticism that you just can’t teach for a guy 6’10 that coaches take note of. I personally like him as more of a bench player. If they could start Foster, just for his steady play, and come in with McRoberts probably as a one of the first couple players off the bench, that’ll probably be best. All I’m saying is based on what I’ve seen from him thus far, I can’t just thrust him into a starter’s role just yet. And damn, this guy is young, won’t be 24 until Feb. Feels like he left duke ages ago…

If he did anything as well as Lamar Odom, he would not have been on the fringe of the league for the past three years. His best isn’t good enough to be inconsistent in effort or productivity. The guy has three double-doubles over three seasons and a career high of 18 points, so I wouldn’t say that he is capable of filling a stat sheet on any given night.
