First they didn’t land Lebron who had potentially more to gain from that situation than any other knick prospect in history. (NY’s mayor Bloomberg estimated the value of that move to be 2 billion dollars.)

Then they land Amare who has never been able to carry a team without getting hurt

Then Carmelo their only chance of being a legit contender goes next door to the Nets and presumably signs a three year extension which will make him the face of the new Brooklyn arena. And the Knicks just sat there.

How are they supposed to ever make it out the eastern conference during this era?

As far as I’m concerned the Knicks should have tried to Trade up for Tyreke in last years draft, or atleast picked Jennings. While that may sound as mere hindsight, it was obvious even then. Jordan Hill? If they picked wisely Amare would be part of an actual nucleus this season instead having to carry the load.

The current regime has failed. It’s time to clear out. Let spike lee run the team. Seriously.

The knicks obviously didnt get everything they wanted but they have improved a ton. The three new faces of Amare, Felton, and Randolph seems to be very underrated. This team isnt going to win a title, but they will make the playoffs and thats a very nice start

Dont forget that they tried to rehire the man that messed up the team,  And were even able to screw that up as well!

i love wen randolph was on gs everyone was saying hes a potential allstar just waiting to break out

all he needs is a coach that doesnt hold him back ……(nele hated him and told him to only rebound wen he plays)

well now hes on perfect situation a coach tha never holds his players back

randolph willl be very good this year

we did good this offseason not great because our main goal was to obtain 2 stars we only got one

weve have deep team this year which should make the playoffs

we are flexible again next year to sign a bigman maybe marc gasol or horford

and i also love amare going to knicks and amre is damaged goods

but if amare went to play with rose "that team wud be the most athletic team in history"

but they got booz the one player every teams fan hoped they didnt end up with and is boozer not injury prone aswell ?

Totally Disagree and here’s my Knick thinking

Yes, we didn’t land LeBron. I said the day that McGrady deal happened I didn’t like it, I was hopeful for Sergio but felt like too much to me.

However, people forget the Knicks were mere seconds from being shutout in FA. Yes, Amar’e Stoudemire is slightly overpaid but you know what? You get a top 15 player to build around for the next 4-5 seasons.

Then, the Knicks moved David Lee for Anthony Randolph who could play well and take his place. Not scoring wise but provide some of the same grit.

Raymond Felton is slightly overpaid but it’s a 2 year deal. 2 years/15 mil for a PG? High, but I’ll take it

The one thing I like is the Knicks still have EC’s contract and they have some contracts that expire this 2011 offseason. Yes, most likely Melo is going to NJ (Hasn’t happened yet) but NY hasn’t looked to just win and add players this season

Also, don’t count out Timofey Mozgov. I know, he’s a overseas player but from what I seen he could crack the rotation. I read a couple places that he played well vs USA and that he might even start.

I’m not saying we have my ideal summer but I liked it. We improved.

      Randolph provides grit?

And to answer the question, it was obviously a dissapointment because they didn’t get LBJ. Plain and simple. However, they still improved by getting a solid pg in Felton, an all-star in Amare and a versatile (yes inconsistent) talent in Randolph who will probably thrive in Dantoni’s system. I really thought Melo was eventually going to end up with the Knicks, but I guess not lol.

My thing is you tank that many seasons just to get Amare? Amare couldn’t win with Steve Nash and now he is supposed to win with unproven players? The Knicks are sad. You can have all the money but to be a contender you need an elite perimeter scorer. Those include Kobe, Wade, Durant, Lebron, Melo and Dirk. The Knicks missed out on all of them.

The Tmac deal hurt more becaz of this year’s pick, by next yr the team will be prett9y good.  Still if NJ wants to give up all that for Mello no way can the Knicks do that.  Gallo, Randolph, Douglas a future 1st will hurt the team.  Walsh is playing it safe after all the moves, not sure where you see tanking the last couple years they traded away Randolph and Crawoford to get cap relief.  Amare is better than Randolph and Crawford had a career yr on the bench no way was the team Walsh inherited getting past the 1st round though.

BTW this has been the best offseasons the Knicks have had probably since after the 96 season when they got Allan Houston, Childs and Larry Johnson.  Not sure why you’d think adding Amare isn’t a good move yeah he’s getting paid a lot but they have the cap room.  Bosh wasn’t coming here once Bron, Bosh and Wade decided to play together and once Miami made the moves to get cap space it was done.  They improved at every position from last year except Center.  The days of Isiah and having one the highest payroll and 1 of the worst teams are over.  From last year this is the difference.

PG: Felton shot 46% last year and  Duhon 37% and went through long slumps where he couldn’t make a shot even.  Sergio Rodriguez didn’t help much and Douglas did well in his limited time now he’s clearly the 1st guy off the bench at PG.  Nate played well off the bench esp. in spurts but he’s not a starting PG really.

SG: Last yr combination of Chandler, Hughes, Walker had mixed results.  This year vets Azubuike, Mason with Chandler and Walker who with some real mins under his belt in the league should do well..  Azubuike won’t be ready for preseason so Chandler will probably get the bulk of the mins for a while.  Thankfully Hughes is gone he played good defense and could play PG some but shot poorly 29% on 3’s and just 36% overall.

SF: Gallo is a year older and he had a nice season last year which was basically his rookie yr after barely playing the yr before.  He hit the wall in the middle of the yr after not playing these many games overseas and obviously the difference in games.  However he looks to be the teams 2nd leading scorer and should improve to around 17-18 ppg.  Defensively he’s not a stiff and can block some shots but he needs to improve his rebounding.  Backing up Gallo will be Walker or Chandler most of the time if their not playing SG.

PF: Last year Al Harrington was their PF though he scored almost 18 ppg he took almost 6 3’s a game which is too much for a PF not named Dirk.  Also he was a weak rebounder at under 6 a game.  This year they have a top tier PF in Amare, yeh he’s not a grt defender or rebounder but he’s not as weak as Harrington.  At 9 rebs a game with 23 ppg he’s the best offensive player the Knicks have had in years easily and best big man since Patrick Ewing.  Backing him up is Anthony Randolph who’s played about 1 yrs worth of games in the league.  Averaging about 20 mins a game he still gets 6 rebs a game and 1.5 blocks.

C: David Lee the biggest loss from last year he averaged 20 ppg and 11.7 rebs, he was the best player and played out of position most of the season guarding 7 footers.  Jeffries played well on defense but he did very lil on offense and wasn’t very good on the boards before the trade.  Lee was clearly deserving of being an All-Star, being replaced by a bigger player in Ronny Turiaf.  Mozgov is a legit 7 footer who can run the floor and block some shots as a backup for now. Turiaf is a gritty player who rebs and blocks some shots as well.  Curry is the 3rd stringer and maybe in his walk yr gets into shape and gives them something can’t be worse than the last 2 yrs he’s played.

Its obvious some of you haven’t watched the Knicks much.

Gone are Duhon, Nate, Hughes, Harrington, Lee, Jeffries, Barron, Rodriguez, Tmac, House, Darko, Hill and some others. Only 2 players left from the Isiah era now Chandler and Curry.

i disagree..this was a good summer for the knicks.. it was great because they didnt get there A,B,C,D choice that they wanted but they did get some nice players

randolphs production was because of randolph not nellie. stop giving this guy excuses. sounds like sergio "the deer" all over again

and felton amare or randolph arent underrated. the concensous is

felton is a good starting point guard

amare is a allstar that can score, not as good a rebounder that he should be, bad defender

randolph is potential that relies on his god given talent but doesnt seem to work real hard to add skills or get better at this point

they are what they are right now

Plan ABCD how do you figure

Everyone pretty much knew Wade wasn’t coming to NY and most though Bosh was going to play with Wade or Lebron.  They all 3 had a plan to play together.  What was plan B, C and D btw?  Amare and JJ, I’ll pass on giving JJ max money.  Who else was a big name that signed Pierce, Dirk they just opted out to get long term deals.  I’m thrilled the Knicks didn’t blow big money on Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson or make a crazy trade for Arenas.  They do have a pick in this years draft 2011 either their own or Houston’s most likely the Rockets and they still have cap room for next year.

And sorry but the knicks dont have a first round pick till 2014

They still have a pick. The Rockets just have the right to switch with them.

it wasnt a bad summer but knicks fans should admit it wasnt what they were hoping for the last 2 years. They got 1 all-star and they gave up draft picks and had to let their best player in david lee walk. Felton is okay but nobody should be getting super excited about signing him like he is gonna turn things around. Randolph s a huge question mark and how he does will have a big impact on how this summer will be remembered. They did get landry fields though so im rooting for him to do well.

As I stated before, the Raps and the Knicks have traded places in the standings this offseason. The Knicks are the new Raps but the only difference is NY can attract players to play on the team do the location, the Raps are the new Knicks but the only difference is toronto wont just throw money a free agents and hope to land one, they already have a load of very good young talent and know what moves to make to rebuild. NY has good not great PG play, capable shooters including an italian forward with great touch, a couple energetic shot blockers and a premeire scoring PF, no rebounding presence, no defensive post presence, and no premiere scoring wing. Sounds just like the Raps to me.

    • New York owes a protected 1st round draft pick to Utah, due before 2010 (top 24 protected in 2007, top 23 protected in 2008, top 22 protected in 2009, unprotected in 2010) [via Phoenix.]
    • Houston has the right to swap 2011 first round picks (top-1 protected) with New York, at their discretion.
    • Houston receives New York’s 2012 first round pick (top-5 protected) as part of Jared Jeffries/Carl Landry/Kevin Martin trade.

The picks they do have they can’t trade for melo which is the same as having no picks as far as getting players for them

James Dolan trying to rehire Isiah Thomas was a disaster waiting to happen. Donnie Walsh got the cap in shape which was his main job now Coach D’Antoni after two years grace needs to get the team back towards the play offs. Walsh’s job is perhaps nearly done and pushing 70 years old and with some health issues then I can see him taking on a reduced role in due course. If I was Dolan then I’d hire a top GM Kevin Pritchard for example who alongside Walsh would beef up the front office and have long term continuity when Walsh steps down.

I thought at the start of the summer that NY may get STAT and Joe Johnson or if they were lucky then LeBron may have come to NY. Johnson resigned with Atlanta, they got STAT, upgraded the PG position and get some depth via David Lee S and T.

In hindsight the T-Mac deal was a gamble but if T-Mac had returned to something like his old form and they had landed two top FA’s then everyone would have hailed a great move by Donnie Walsh.

James Dolan is an idiot, Walsh needs to hire a GM hopefully KP the former Blazers GM.

Stanford boy your so lost its not even funny.

Plan A was lebron ( I agree this was def. Plan A not just for the Knicks but for the Cavs, Bulls, Heat, Clips, Nets, Kings basically any team with cap space or player available in a trade.)

Plan B was bosh (Your wrong here Amare is better and they wanted Bosh hoping that Lebron would follow.)

Plan C was Joe Johnson ( Sorry but he’s not a max player esp. at 29 at most I’d give him is a 3 year 40 million deal but he doesn’t make other players better and he can’t take a pretty talented Hawks team to be even competitive in the 2nd round)

And sorry but the knicks dont have a first round pick till 2014

2011: They do have a 1st round draft pick, Houston has the right to swap if they choose

2012: They won’t have their own draft pick Houston has it.

2013: The Knicks have their own pick

2014: The Knicks have their own pick

Only 2012 they don’t have a draft pick and in 2011 most likely will end up with Houston’s pick which should be somewhere between 18-26.  The Knicks should be a playoff team meaning their pick won’t be in the lottery.

Why would Donnie Walsh not give up Randolph and Galo in a deal for Melo? I mean Melo is a top 5 players in the league, he will sign a long extension, the knicks still have talent surrounding Melo and amare with felton, chandler, mozgov, roger mason, turiaf,  and douglas (if he isnt included). i dont understand why if the knicks have a chance at melo, they arent doing whatever it takes d NY needs Melo after loosing on lebron.

also, i wouldnt be surprised if JR smith is included in any Melo deal, they want to get rid of him and Smith would be an incredible bench player for Dantoni

The GSW guys cannot be traded yet I believe so NY are limited to working with Gallinari, Chandler, Douglas, Walker and even Fields and Rautins in persuit of Melo plus they cannot send a draft pick before 2014. So I figure it is wait and see what happens, if other teams are in the mix then they could try to set up an alternative trade but it may mean taking back extra contracts which I’d guess Donnie Walsh would be loathe to do.

If they wanted to be extreme then they could try to put Curry’s expiring deal to another team in the proposed 4 way trade and hope to scupper the Melo to NJ trade and then maybe get a shot at Melo next summer or help put the trade on ice until the GSW guys become trade available.

The other option could be to look for a team wanting to make some kind of salary dump considering what Seattle/Oklahoma got from Phoenix for Kurt Thomas and what Houston got out of the Knicks. The trade dump if it did not last beyond 2012 or wasn’t too excessive would not compromise the Knicks long term and with their resources could probably agree a buyout and thus reduce the cap level a bit. This might get the Knicks the extra draft pick or two that would help their quest of Melo.
