Melo and Stoudemire on the Knicks

I was thinking about this earlier too….They would NOT be an elite team which is a suprising thing because of that talent….I would rank the East as this with Melo on the team

1. Miami
2. Boston
3. Orlando
4. Knicks
5. Chicago

Maybe they will be in top four but not really any chance of contending in the East

If they do not trade all their young players they are definitely a top 3-4 team in the East. Lets assume that they get Melo for something like Gallo, Chandler, Walker, Curry, 2014 First….
You have to remember that Melo/Amare would be probably the third best duo in the NBA… behind Kobe/Gasol and the three friends in Miami. Felton is a solid PG and better than anything either Miami or LA have. Azibukee is also a solid SG. If they manage to hold on to one of Randolph/Gallo, one of those 2 is a great number 3 on a top 5-8 team in the league.

I think that is a very solid team.

Talent on paper means little look at the Cowboys. I know that is football but it applies to basketball in some ways. We could predict stuff now and be totally wrong and since basketball has fewer players per team, one player could be a bigger difference than you think. Also in basketball it comes down to match ups. Also Orlando and Boston has had about 3 year collecting talent and building itself up. Melo would give Knicks a solid young foundation where they could add talent and possibly 2 or 3 years be the best in the East. I mean Miami and Boston were able to go from barely contending to having a big chance to win it all in one year so don’t underestimate chemistry and just a player finding his perfect fit. Also Melo would be in the East which top to bottom is still a lot worse than the West. Melo is perfect for Mike D’Antoni’s system and like you said with Melo, Knicks could possibly be 4th best team in the East which gives them a fighting chance. Being number one like Cavs has been lately does not gurantee playoff victories.

Very few,if any teams have put a team together in one offseason and won big in pro ball history,so why should that be the goal when you haven’t won at all in damn near a decade???? Being in the playoffs is goal one,then you raise your expectaions as you grow as a team.

This summer was an exception because of the magnitude and talent level of the free agents that were available. Clearly Miami put it together this offseason and will most likely win multiple championships this decade, you can’t blame teams like the Knicks, Nets, Bulls for gambling a little at a chance of a once in a lifetime free agency.
As a knick fan I would personally rather keep the team together because I like their young players and then see what happens next summer. If Melo is still available throw all the money at him, if not there are plenty of free agents that can improve a team next year too. The Knicks can try to overpay for Horford or Marc Gasol since both those teams are a little cash strapped. Ill take Horford, Gallo, Randolph and the 2014 pick over just Melo any day.

If they can get CP3 to run that show with Stoudemire and Melo on the same squad, and still somehow keep Danilo, they’re going to be just as dangerous as the Heat for the next few years.

IMO NYK should wait for FA why?? they keep their depth and few draft picks plus get a legit All NBA SF. A core of Anthony, Stoudemire, Randolph, Gallinari, Chandler, Azubuike, and maybe CP3 they would just need a solid 7 foot defender inside nd they are a top team in the NBA forget the EC. Patience is the key for NYK this year should be playoffs next year ECF and go from there with draft picks and MLE

I actually hope they don’t make a move for Melo, it would cost too much. Let the young players they have now grow and have 15 million to spend next summer. If one or two of these young guys drastically improves this year, a solid signing is all they would need to be very competitive.

people still way overestimate orlando and boston… chicago will be better than both of these teams… and i think if the knicks had melo (depending on how that got him and if they kept gallo), they would be way better than orlando or boston… about on par with CHI and right up there with the holy triumvirate in miami

Boston has maybe 2 years left period and until Orlando gets a better point guard or guy who can throw the ball inside and get Howard some easy baskets, they will always seem to be lacking but very talented.

In 2 years if Knicks make the right moves they could be second best team in the East behind Miami or possibly ahead of them at number 1 but the thing they should be in that vicinity. I really don’t care if they get Melo or not because Randolph has the potential to possibly put up nice numbers and some does Gallo. Melo would give Knicks some swagger though and he would give them a bonafide star they could market but regardless Knicks should be a playoff team that will get support.

i agree that it would not make them a contender right now. but if you can get melo which is doubtful i guess, but lets just assume you could then i would do it. of course only at a reasonable price because i think it is a Chance to get better and you possibly wont get a comparable Talent in FA. you wont have a contending Team with just that but you could add some players trough FA (midlevel exception) or draft when you finally have picks again in a few years.
