Grizz front office screwed up, they tried to low ball two first round picks with some upside with unfair deals and of course they didn’t take them. Henry and Vasquez could have played summer league if you would have had a little common sense in July.

    Here is the insider…

The Memphis Grizzlies have finally agreed to terms with their two first round picks — Xavier Henry and Greivis Vasquez — on Wednesday after owner Michael Heisley agreed to guarantee them the maximum 120 percent of the rookie salary scale. The Grizzlies had been offering both players 100 percent of the rookie scale with 20 percent to be earned by bonuses.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m happy the issue has been resolved,” Heisley told The Commercial-Appeal on Wednesday. “There’s no question I’m doing what I should have probably done earlier.”

Heisley explains why he changed his stance on the bonus issue.

“In the general spirit of the way (the CBA) was put together, I felt we should relent and not have a performance situation,” Heisley said. “I don’t think I was on the right side of the issue.”

According to The New York Times, Henry’s agent, Arn Tellem, was willing to pay Henry out of his pocket if the two sides couldn’t resolve the issue.

“I will never yield to pressure, and Xavier’s family feels the same way,” Tellem said earlier Wednesday before agreeing to terms with Memphis. “I feel as strongly about this as anything I ever have in my life.”

Henry, as the No. 11 pick in the draft, will make $2,020,200, while Vasquez, the No. 28 pick, will earn $1,035,960 for the 2010-11 season.

This was a ridiculous dispute. I have not seen a hold out on a rookie contract like this for the longest time. I am glad Heisley at least admitted to being wrong. The incentives given to Xavier on the other deal were less than fair and again, I had my suspicions about them wanting to save a buck. They drafted these players because they saw something in them, so just give them what is given to everyone else. I understand incentives, I understand teams wanting players to reach a certain point, but both of these players would be in positions where it would be very difficult to do so. This was the right move on the Grizzlies behalf and hopefully Xavier and Greivis will prove it to be so.

they have great talent and seem like good guys to build with…I was very high on Henry and still think him and Vasquez can help that Team greatly off the bench…X Man can become a big time starter IMO…
