d-ravParticipantWhat you guys think? Would you put him at 4, replacing Melo, or off the bench as an offensive spark?
CP3 – DWILL
KOBE – DWADE
LBJ – MELO KD
MELO/KD – MELO/KD
D12 – BOSHThat’s a nasty rotation!!!

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantCan we be a little realistic?
The same guys are not coming back. They will need a ton of replacements. Paul, Kobe, James, Wade, Williams, Bosh and maybe Howard won’t play. All of them will be at that point where it’s time to think getting Titles over defending Medals.

aarondsonixfanParticipantI agree. I would rather start KD at the 4 just because of his length compared to Carmelo. I think that he can score just as well, but defensively KD has taht 7’5″ wingspan that helps him.
Mr. Knick- I think that you are right that a lot of these guys aren’t coming back, but i don’t think that it will be that many people. I think that Bosh will play, and I’m not sure about Kobe. I think that both point guards will be there, Dwight will be there, and Wade will be there.. We never know with LeBron, but i’d count him in as of right now.

Age as of 2012
Kobe- 34
James- 28
Melo- 28/29
Bosh- 28/29
Wade- 30
Paul- 27 (free agent year)
Williams- 29
Howard-26All those guys other then Howard are gonna be in there prime seasons. This is a one and done for them. Why add more miles on the legs? Like the Original dream team, alot of those guys are in for one year and done. That’s all.

the I in winParticipantI think the Miami three will play if they are guarenteed all to start (kinda a stretch for them). Paul probably won’t unless he is traded and signs an extension. Kobe might but he will be a bit old by then and may just want to rest, but I wouldn’t be suprised to see him so he can prove he still has great endurance at his age.

jdstormParticipantJust because they are comming back doesn’t mean they will all make team. after the strong showing of these younger players at the world championships, and likely a young team at next years Fiba Americas. there will be a strong push for roster spots and these guys will all have to prove they belong.
playing for team USA seems to be becoming more important to guys in the NBA
the most contentious spots on the roster would be for the big men. especially with the influx of young guys that came into the NBA over the past few years.
Look at the bigs who are eligible.
Howard, bosh, Amare .the Lopez twins, Mcgee if he makes the jump. Demarcus cousins, derrick favours, greg monroe if they develop. If there are only 3 places for these 10 viable contenders. Howard could be on the way out due to his free throw shooting. And at guard you have to add
Rose, westbrook, curry and gordon from the current team, along with john wall, tyreeke evans, and brandon jennings.
then if the team decides to take a specialist shooter like a morrow, korver, miller, redick. or even channing fryethe 2012 US mens basketball team is going to be hard to get on. especially since all the top players will be rested after having a shorter season due to the lockout.

WizardofOzParticipantA lot of players like Paul, Williams, and Howard might not play in 2012 because they will be entering free agency. If everybody returns, this is my projected U.S. roster.
PG: Chris Paul/Deron Willams/Derrick Rose
SG: Kobe Bryant/Dwyane Wade/
SF: LeBron James/Kevin Durant/Rudy Gay
PF: Carmelo Anthony/Chris Bosh
C: Dwight Howard/Brook LopezIf people like Kobe Bryant and the 2012 free agents don’t return, I expect the roster to look like this.
PG: Derrick Rose/Russell Westbrook/Rajon Rondo
SG: Dwyane Wade/Brandon Roy/Eric Gordon
SF: LeBron James/Kevin Durant
PF: Carmelo Anthony/Chris Bosh

Mr. 19134ParticipantCome on people There is no way Kevin Durant don’t start on the 2012 team regardless of who is on the team, you’re talking about the reason we are about to win another gold and the possible MVP this year. Plus you can literally start him anywhere from Center to Shooting guard in the international game. I mean Odom is out starting center this year and Durants Longer and taller. And I would really love to see them start Lebron at point making the lineup look possibly like this.
LeBron
Wade
Melo
KD
DwightI don’t see Kobe or Paul playing. Even if they did I would go with that lineup because it’s just nasty.

jdstormParticipantFree Agency is what their agents are for. And all the teams with cap space will wait till the players become available. no body is going to use their cap space on the rashard lewis’ and caron butlers of the world when chris paul is still availiable.
the main guys just used free agency as an excuse to take this summer off. something which they deserve to do, but i dont think any of those guys would give up a good chance at another olympic Gold, to chill on a beach in miami.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI’m sorry, NONE of you are thinking.
-All of those players will be on the latter side of 25
– They won a gold medal
– All those players will be on title/playoff contendersWhy would James, Wade, Bosh, Kobe, Paul and Williams play? Wouldn’t it make sense NOT to put more mileage on the body? Or does it make sense to say ” Hey, instead of resting after playing into May ( most of them will), Let me just jump for something I already own and go through the whole thing with the Olympics again and get no rest and go into the season?”

jdstormParticipantsome people value Gold medals more then championship rings. and the only person who has to worry about miles is kobe. However since he has lots of rings, and seems to understand that another gold medal would do for his legacy aka makes him even with MJ’s 2,
Plus kobe will be well rested due to a half season long lockout, and if he has gotten a 6th title by then, the only thing left for him to do would be catch MJ and Kereem for most points and his basketball resume becomes argueably more impressive then MJ.
Especially if Kobe Goes and wins a euro title at 40 which seems like something he would want to do

Mr. 19134ParticipantI dont see alot of them playing either…I doubt Kobe will play because he is going to be like 34 and although Mike got 2 medals Kobe will be trying to keep his body together to still catch Mike’s Ring total or surpass it. I do see Melo, and Howard Def playing. If LeBron, or Wade play they both will probably play it just seems to be going that way nowadays. And If Paul has an extended Free Agent tour he will not play because if he injures himself in the Olympics theirs goes a possible Max Contract people learned their lesson with Grant Hill and if a freak injury happens it dont matter how much the player accomplished thus far they will be hesitant to give money untill they prove they are healthy.

PG: Deron Williams/Chris Paul/Derrick Rose
SG: Dwayne Wade/Brandon Roy/Eric Gordon or another shooter
SF: Lebron James/Carmelo Anthony
PF: Kevin Durant/Blake Griffin
C: Dwight Howard/Chris BoshNow if CP & Wade doesn’t play bc of FA, throw in Amare or Cousins or Iggy then Durant can play the 2 guard and Melo moves to the 4 spot. But yes I think KD starts regardless. I really think B Roy will get a shot. He’s been hurt the past few summers so he still in the mix plus he can play 3 positions and his coach is an asst n Nate wants him there.
Is Eric Gordon gonna be the 3pt specialist or do you see a newcomer like say a Xavier Henry or Austin Rivers or JJ Redick or Morrow come in and steal the spot?

Mr. JewboyParticipantthere are 3 players no one is mentioning that i think deserve to at least get mentioned:
1-blake griffin- i think he wants to play for the US, so i see him possibly making it to the 2012 and we saw that big men are hard to find as mcgee(!!!)almost made the team
2- john wall will be something special and has a chance to make it
3-andre iguodala- he’s quietly havin an excellent tournament, and might be the best wing defender in the league and is one of the best finishers on the fast break-which is how the USA likes to play0 - Posted on: Sun, 09/12/2010 - 4:49am #399350

joecheck88Participantmr knick i agree that alot of those guys wont be there but not because they are older than 25. over 30 then i think age is an issue. here is my opinion on some guys.
chris paul- i dont think he will be there, he will be a free agent that summer and injuries are an issue with him.
deron williams- takes over as the chauncey billups role.
kobe bryant- i could see him there because of his competitiveness but he could be resting for another title oppritunity.
lebron james- 50/50 to me, we could use his athleticism.
carmelo anthony- he will be there and will still be the main scorer for this team. he is a fiba nightmare.
dwight howard- i also think he will be there because he is the face of american big men.
my gut feeling on the roster for 2012 olypic roster are;
point guards- deron williams, derrick rose, russell westbrook
sg- dwayne wade, eric gordon
sf- lebron james, kevin durant, carmelo anthony
pf- chris bosh, kevin love
c- dwight howard and brook lopez.

joecheck88Participantmr knick i agree that alot of those guys wont be there but not because they are older than 25. over 30 then i think age is an issue. here is my opinion on some guys.
chris paul- i dont think he will be there, he will be a free agent that summer and injuries are an issue with him.
deron williams- takes over as the chauncey billups role.
kobe bryant- i could see him there because of his competitiveness but he could be resting for another title oppritunity.
lebron james- 50/50 to me, we could use his athleticism.
carmelo anthony- he will be there and will still be the main scorer for this team. he is a fiba nightmare.
dwight howard- i also think he will be there because he is the face of american big men.

omphalosParticipantHonestly, I can’t see how you wouldn’t start Durant even with the 2008 starters back for another round. His game is more Fiba friendly that Lebron’s right now, imagine in a couple of years. His jumper is pretty much unstoppable as it is and it will only improve as the years go on.
As far as whether the 2008 team will return or not I can’t see anybody except Kobe or Paul being in doubt. Age for Kobe and free agency for Paul will be factors but Lebron should have a ring by then and as has been mentioned the lockout will give people all the time off their bodies will need to play in the Olympics again.

ChewyParticipantDurant is a beast and has a 38 point game to prove it, but Lebron has the strength to push around 4’s on defense and the speed and ball handling to blow by guards. Lebron is the example of what every international coach would want in a PF. Durant’s game is so similar to Carmelo that I could see one of them staring and then the other coming off the bench to do the exact same thing. Why not bring Durant off the bench and have the US 2nd squad crush every other teams 2nd squad?

stanford hoopsDid we all see the same tournament? Rose obviously suffered in fiba play and he will have to make the team. He’s clearly behind Paul
dwill and Westbrook. Other point guards could move ahead of himSince the guys from
the last olympics said they are coming back let’s assume they are since there is zero
proof that they aren’t coming backas far as who starts. That’s gonna be very interesting. I think melo and bron and Wade are locks. Since thru played very well and each one would have been the stat on this team
if they were on the team instead of durant0 - Posted on: Sun, 09/12/2010 - 1:24pm #399741

OhCanada-ParticipantOf course Durant will start, Colengelo and Coach K’s loyalty to current players will be obvious.
Rose, Durant, and Love will return.
I see James not wanting to play because he is full of these bullish premadonna moves, and I think if Kobe wants to play he plays despite age, talent and shape. If he wants to play he can.
As far as Bryant, and Lebron go I doubt they return, but Wade I dont see missing it.
Top 3 guys to make it for each position IMO are.
PG-Rose, Paul, Williams
SG- Wade, Evans, Curry
SF-Durant, Anthony, Roy
PF-Bosh, Love, Griffin
C-Howard, Lopez, McGeeI do not see how we can forget about Curry, Evans and McGee as potential candidates on this team. They have great upside and long term potential.

stanford hoopsOu can tell the rise love fir the people who think he’s a lock even though his game is clearly nit fit fir fiba and he’s a bad defender. To some fans it seems he can do no wrong. What exactly did he provide except hype that can’t be replaced by other point guards including westbrook

stanford hoopsSorry but there are a couple better centers to pick before mcgee. If they decide to play. My guess is they pick one center which is Dwight and plug in back up power forwards as back up centers
