Is it me or is David West, on the New Orleans Hornets extremely overrated? This guy made 1 all-star team, and everyone thinks he’s some big shot…David West is Udonis Haslem, with more playing time…If Haslem got the minutes West gets, he pretty much would put up the same numbers…West is a good role player, but he’s no second option in my book…I don’t know why the Hornets and the media see him as something special, he’s not…and he’s aging, and his game is declining…At this point, I think he should be a bench player, but the Hornets don’t have a starting quality power forward on their roster, so they have no choice but to start with him…I feel with Okafor already athletically restraint, they don’t need another unathletic big starting with him…They need a big that can run and jump…If Toronto didn’t invest so much into Amir Johnson, I would say for the Hornets to trade West for Amir Johnson…Johnson is young, very fast, athletic, blocks shots real well, 6’11 (adds size to a short Hornets team), and he can get alot of lobs from Chris Paul (ala in the same mold Tyson Chandler did) If Johnson played with a true playmaker like Chris Paul, he could have a breakout year…14 to 15 points, 10 to 11 boards, 2.5 blocks, and 1 steal…Some big men is dependent on a playermaker to be a successful player aka (Kenyon Martin, when he played with Jason Kidd on the Nets…U see how Martin wasn’t the same player, playing with Andre Miller, his first few years in Denver, before he even got injured for the 54th time..lol) If not that, I would trade David West to the Cavs, for Anderson Varejo…But I doubt the Cavs may do that, since Varejo and Ryan Hollins, are their tallest players…But Bryon Scott had a great relationship with David West, when he was the coach for the Hornets, so he knows what he could bring to the table…Another trade they could do, trade David West to Portland, for Joel Przybilla…Przybilla is 7’1, runs decent, blocks shots, boards at a high rate, and with his presence, the 6’9 Okafor could move at his natural position, power forward…Another possibilty is trading David West to the Bobcats, for Desaigna Diop and Eduardo Najera

If the hornets are going to try to trade one of there bigs they would trade Okafor because that experiment failed… and why would they trade one of CP3’s best friend on the team…. West works on this team because of his 19 foot jumper, its needed when Chris Paul takes it to the hole and West man slides in for help side defense then Paul dishes it to West and an easy 2 points

Yeah maybe, except people it seems think he inst even on their team, your the first person besides me to bring him up in about a year.

And still West was able to average 19.5 points this year year with Paul out most of the year.

Trading him for Varejao, or pRyzbilla would be pretty fucked up, Because West has been able to average 20 points a couple of seasons, and if you trade away him your definitely wont have a secent option.

You’d basically be throwing in the towel, and rebuilding if you trade him away.

Tyson Chandler and J.R. Smith were best friends with Chris Paul too, and the Hornets still traded both of them…Jannero Pargo was real close to CP3 also, and they didn’t spend the money, to resign him…So u never know…The reason why West is easier to trade than Okafor, is because his contract is smaller…No one will even trade for Okafor…A big reason Okafor didn’t do well, is because he’s playing the 5 in the Western Conference, at 6’9…Jeff Bower was an idiot for trading 7’1 Chandler, a true center, for a power forward…Okafor needs to go back to his true position…therefore, West has to get traded, for them to possibly pickup a legit starting caliber center

Trading away West wouldn’t be throwing in the towel because with West gone, Okafor could put up 15 points to 16 points, with more touches and playing in his natural position…Okafor playing against tall stocky centers like Marc Gasol, Bynum, Kaman, and etc wears him down…Ariza will have a breakout year, playing with Chris Paul, and would put up like 17 points, 6 to 7 boards, 3 to 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block…Belinelli will have a breakout year, starting for the Hornets, and playing with a true playermaker, in CP3…Marcus Thornton will be their sixth man, and pick off where he left off, from his rookie year…So they would have players to score with Chris Paul..Not to mention, they could always trade away Peja and his expiring contract, for more players

Then why not trade Peja for a center?

you dont just throw away someone like West if he doesnt have a bad deal.

I think West is accurately rated. He is a very productive power forward, a 2 time all-star ( good but not a lock every year) and a guy who’s floated around the 20 and 9 mark for the last few years, yet no one thinks he is a superstar or a guy to get to turn their franchise around. He is a reliable offensive threat in the post who works hard and is a good 2nd option. I think thats pretty much the consensus around the league, which in my opinion makes him not over rated nor under rated, but a pretty spot on rating.

LOL most people say David West is underrated. This is probably the 1st time in life where I’ve heard someone call him overrated. To me, he rarely gets the attention he probably deserves. West is a very good player to me. Maybe not a great 2nd option, but he’s not bad either really

Put David West on a contender, and he will not be a 2nd option, he will be a 4th or 5th option, even lower…He’s not a 2nd option, that’s all I’m saying…And any player could put up, 19 points with a good amount of touches, and getting to the free throw line…Craig Brackins could be better than him in the long run

Well he averaged 20 when the Hornets got the second seed and were contenders.

and if you trade him for a Pryzbilla, or Johnson, i dont even know if their in contention for the playoffs.

here is a perfect example of how valuable valuable Chris Paul is…..there are plenty of people who can just sit and make open shots like David West does…..Paul makes that all possible….

    He’s not overrated but he’s not a #2 option. I agree.

On a team like Houston, he would be VERY valuable.
