However unlikely it is, and I understand I’m jumping the gun, but if the Knicks ever get good, there will be a lot of bandwagon fans poppin up. Like if Melo came, NYKarmelo would only be sure to follow.

I HATE bandwagon fans. Honestly they are the worst thing about sports, people who just go from winner to winner have no loyalty. So please remember guys like me, Mr Knick, and others, and not the others that popped up when they thought Lebron was coming.

How do you guy personally feel about bandwagon fans, especially the ones on your team…. if your team has them.

I’m a Rockets fan.. When Ron Artest was our best player because Yao and TMac were out.. I still thought they would beat the Lakers, and I live in Southern Cali. When The Cat and The Franchise were the faces of that team, I was a fan. When Charles Barkley was there, I was a fan. And it was when we got that #1 pick, that I knew this team would be special. Talk is we might get Melo, hopefully.

Im more of a fan of players than specific teams so if the player I like switches teams I will follow him. But I will always be rooting for Philly to win because the fans are amazing. And A.I. was my first fav player

PS I am born and raised in NY

Used to hate them, but now I understand them. For me, I like players a lot more than teams usually, and I follow them. So, when your favorite player of all-time is Shaquille O’Neal, as mine is, I kind of followed the leader. Magic, Lakers (which definitely stuck, they are still one of my favorites), Heat, Suns (This became hard, as I even had to start liking Steve Nash, a player I got tired of being from Canada and hearing about him non-stop, not to mention winning 2 incredibly questionable MVP awards) and finally last year on a team with my modern favorite player, LeBron James with the Cavs. To say I wanted this team to win was an understatement. Colossally disappointed, though happy the Lakers beat the Celtics. Now, Shaq being a Celtic and all, I just can not jump on that bandwagon. Will I be happy if Shaq wins a ring to tie Kobe? Maybe, for Shaq. But best believe if it is Lakers and Celtics, I will be cheering for LA. I think rivalries are kind of built into who you like, and usually I choose one or the other. With the recent developments of the Lakers even closing in on Boston for most championships of all-time, this rivalry is as black or white as ever. However, when it comes to teams I like, I have chosen between players and connections. My teams right now include, in no particular order, Raptors, Blazers and Lakers. Raptors as I am born and raised in Toronto, thus kind of grew up with the team (though we did not have one until I was 11/12). I started liking the Blazers really when I was ready too. I had family in Portland, and thus my family was always into them, but as I was quite the contrarian, I used to usually dislike them, especially during the Jail Blazer times, which I felt added fire to the flame of my excuse to dislike them. But, upon them being able to draft Greg Oden, a player I saw as next in line to be a great center, I promised that I would have to like the Blazers. As a fan with an in-depth knowledge on the history of basketball, I could see the drafting of Greg maybe bringing a dynasty to the stacked young Blazer team, who had impressed me with their grit and determination the year before. So, to this day, I am sticking by my promise. I know things have not turned out well, but I find myself rooting for the Blazers ahead of any other foe. I would have to say if I had to choose one, the Blazers are indeed my favorite team, I just like them the best.

With this being said, that I am a Blazer fan, that usually means I should hate the hell out of the Lakers. Portland fans hate the LA ballclub more than any other team, and I would say the Lakers were a much more hated rival than even the former Super Sonics, who are from the usually hated city of Seattle. People tend to cheer for the Seahawks and Mariners, as Portland has no pro team, but in everything else their is a huge rivalry between cities, and that was just topped by what fans viewed as the Lakers incredible arrogance, probably matched with their ability to register heart breaking season ends to their beloved Blazers. But, my love of the Lakers started in the days of Magic Johnson, and once Shaq signed there I was sold. Even with what happened with Kobe and Shaq, and being a Shaq guy, I was already to deep into the historic greatness of the Lakers. To me, they have been home to the best group of NBA talent in the history of the game, albeit some of them near the end of their careers and for single seasons. But, if you stretched out those who played on the Lakers versus those who played on the Celtics, I take LA. Their amazing group of Centers, Mikan, Chamberlain, Abdul-Jabbar, and add Jerry Wes, Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, to me these are all top 20 NBA players of All-Time, with most being top 10. It seems like the Lakers almost have been a team of front-runners and band wagon jumpers, as most of the players who joined the team needed huge pieces to be brought in to finally win, and for years it seemed like the Celtics were utterly dominant in beating the Lakers, but as of recent development, the Lakers have finally won a few back. Also, I think the Lakers to an extent have a quality of being the villain. I think as many people out there that love the Lakers, there are tons more who hate them in the basketball community. This is more true now than ever. Which is why the last team I want to include in the teams I genuinely am cheering for is the Miami Heat. As soon as Shaq went there, I was obsessed with him winning that 4th ring. The 2006 NBA Play-offs was to me the best Play-offs I can remember, only because of my incredible emotional investment to that team paying off. Dwyane Wade was totally incredible, and Shaq I referred to as “The Big Decoy”, as it became clear his best days were behind him, but man I loved that team. So, when my favorite player signed with them, and another player I genuinely liked in Chris Bosh, who I got to enjoy for years here in Toronto, added to the player that makes me want to go out and play basketball more than any other player in Dwyane Wade, well, I wish for their success. I know it will be a tough road, but I am rooting for the villain. I love winning, and as much as I love competition, at the same time having a dynasty, full of players I like, I have to be with that.

With this being said, I do not think I will ever like a few teams. The Knicks have to be near the top. If they would have signed LeBron James, that might have all changed, because LeBron is my guy, but even if Melo somehow makes them a better team, I just can not like them. I stand by the players I like and their decisions, so I am going with Bron. The Thunder are another team I choose to hate, simply for the fact that I feel I need to stand by Greg Oden. Right now, Kevin Durant is the better player, more than likely always will be, but I could care less as long as Greg Oden is on the Trail Blazers, because the Blazers still have a chance to be the better team. How soon people forget that the Blazers are another up and coming team, and just because they lost in the first round to a team that got swept by the Lakers rather than getting beaten in 6 by the Lakers themselves, they have become surpassed? Kevin Durant is better than anyone on the Blazers, that is a fact. Russell Westbrook is better than anyone on the Blazers most likely besides Brandon Roy, that is arguable but more than likely in the favor of the Thunder. But, I still like the Blazers team better. I still think a healthy Greg Oden puts us over the top and we have much more downlow. I see no reason to believe that Jeff Green is a match for LaMarcus Aldridge, and the only thing holding back the Blazers is health. So, with all of this in mind, I give the Thunder, a team I think has rebuilt incredibly well and has great young talent, a big screw you. Boston is a team I just do not see ever liking, more than any other. Just despised them. Sacramento is also a team I hated due to their battles with the Lakers and some of their players (I did not like Chris Webber, though I like him now as a commentator, and I could not stand Vlade’s flopping. Mike Bibby used to give me a heart attack, so freaking clutch). So, I guess add them. But this usually changes by players as well. Unfortunately, I am not lucky enough to have been born and ingrained into a cities rich basketball tradition, a la New York, Boston or LA, hell even Chicago with Michael. I think Knicks fans are lucky to have stayed good for a long time in basketball, and while they have only won 2 rings, they had players that kept them relevant for quite a long time and New York and basketball are about as synonymous as Indiana and Basketball. So, if I were born in a place with ingrained basketball tradition, such as some of the places I listed above, I could see me hating band wagon fans as well. But, as someone who followed players throughout their careers, I pretty much could be seen as one, so, what the hell. Just be happy you liked them first 🙂

I have changed my favorite teams but it happen rarely I was a Orlando magics fan when Penny was there. I started watching the Lakers when they had Cedric Ceballos Elden Campbell, and Nick the quick. When they got Kobe and Shaq I became more of a fan because I love watching that combo. I have been a Lakers fan for a while but I am also a Hornet’s fan because they moved to New Orleans which is where I was born and lived a great deal of my life and still have family there. I was a Phoenix fan when they went against the Bull but that was not that long. Penny Hardaway became my favorite player and I was a fan of them until he got to hurt to play.

i follow players as well. ill always watch derrick rose, dwight howard, kobe bryant, lbj, etc if they are playing. i may not watch my team play(phoenix) every night but i will always look to see how they did. i am more of a basketball fan than anything though. and i will find it tough to root for the suns this year considering my fav player left them for the knicks(amare). i will always root for the suns but i may be more interested in a different team on any given year. but i cant see myself rooting for winning teams(lakers, celtics, heat) but a team like chicago i think will be fun to watch and i will most likely root hard for them this year, but they arent my favorite. does it make sense?

I’ve always hated bandwagon fans… That’s why I hate teams like the Heat right now… They don’t deserve players like LeBron… Why? Because they only show up when they know they are winning… When Dwyane Wade gut it all up duing the last three seasons, (2008-2010), you could only see half-empty seats even when Wade was pouring 51 or 55 points. Now they’re loving the Heat because the "King" comes to the court of Miami? BS… True fans always stick to their team win or lose… I stuck up with the Jordan era right up until he retired with his 6th title of course… I sucked all the losses the team experienced throught the Chandler-Curry- JALEN Rose era… Marcus Fizer era…LOL… And now we have a better Rose in Derrick, I’m still jumping on my seat like an 11 year old kid seeing MJ winning a title back in 1998…

If your a knicks fan shouldn’t you be hopeing that your team becomes good enough to have a bandwagon. Since that would mean that they would be headed toward the playoffs.

Im s over hearing about how every good player wants to go to the knicks when even patrick ewing is old enough to have a kid on the team now.

Houston Rockets ’till the day I die.
It started when the Franchise was here. I was born in ’94 so I was only a baby when we won back-to-back ‘Chips. My dad talks about how cool & crazy it was during those days. Hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy that with Yao Ming as my Hakeem Olajuwon. (No I’m not comparing them, although there is alot of similiarites)
    Cough

& Maybe ‘Melo? (; But yeah. Rockets ’till the day I die.
Although I do root for individuals as well such as Rudy Fernandez, Allen Iverson, JJ Redick, & Goran Dragic to name a few. I’ve never loved the Superstars besides A.I.
