McDunkinThis is a question for those who have seen enough Wake Forest games to answer.
Ty Walkers stock rose pretty fast his senior year of high school. Some even had him in the lottery of that years draft
He stands right around 7’0, has a 9’5 standing reach and a 7’6 wingspan, and is pretty athletic (cyclo is going crazy right now), is a good passer, and has a nice touch around the rim.
I thought he would be the next Tyson Chandler but he has played in only 19 games, averaging 1.9 points and 1.4 rebounds over 90 minutes of playing time, in his first two college seasons.
What went wrong?

Demarcus OnealParticipantDoes anyone know why Dino Gaudio was fired for going 61-31 in three seasons?

JNixonParticipant^Because he wasn’t a very good coach. Wake was as good as they were because of their talent, not because Coach Gaudio could coach

JNixonParticipantHe really isn’t alot better than most coaches, that guy wasn’t a good coach. He needed to be an assistant coach, there are a bunch of assistants that recruit and don’t have to worry about being the Head Coach. That is what Gaudio should be doing too

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantHe was 0-3 in the tourney and had some TERRIBLE second half to seasons.
He won with Skip’s prospects and never brought in a huge recruit in 3 seasons.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantMy bad, they won that 1 game. I guess the win over a stuggling Texas team allows him to forget about that L he took against Cleveland State.

JNixonParticipantYeah they did. That took a last second Ish Smith shot against a Texas team that was terrible from the end of January until the end of the season. I don’t think I can think of anyone that follows basketball that would say Coach Gaudio was a good coach. He was not even close honestly.

wd40rocksParticipantI’m not defending Gaudio at all, and I’m not saying he is/was a good coach.
But I don’t like insults that blur/exclude facts.

PureshooterParticipantI went to Wake back in the day and I live in Wilmington. I’ve seen the kid play in person in high school, college, and even at the local YMCA. The kid is long as all Hell, can run, and does actually have some skills. But he has no strength at all, and has a passive mentality.
His numbers in high school were impressive, but mainly because he was usually being guarded by a 6’7″ guy. I watched him play against Henry Sims (he’s with Georgetown now) in a high school tournament and he really got outplayed. Put him up against anybody close to his height and he loses all confidence. I would really like to see him get more playing time next year because I think he just needs a little confidence to start to turn things around.

McDunkinWith the suspension of Tony Woods this could be his chance to start, but there is a freshman big man who name i cant think of right now that could also get the spot

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipant7-footers rarely if ever see opposition as big, strong, or athletic as they are until they reach college. Even when they have an AAU game, it is a different experience than in a game with real coaching and game planning. It is far more the norm than the exception that the legit 7-footers playing in the big time conferences will struggle early on.
