Heat Sell-Out Season; Fire Sales Staff

As sad unemployment is, there wasn’t a way to go around this. From the Miami Herald: “With the arrival of LeBron James, the Miami Heat rapidly sold out all their season tickets. That turned out to be bad news for the ticket-sales staff, which was fired Friday. In a statement, the Heat confirmed the dismissals Friday afternoon, saying that with an ‘exhausted’ inventory of season-tickets ‘we no longer require a season ticket sales team to sell tickets.’ Stephen Weber, vice president of sales, delivered the news to about 30 ticket sales people Friday morning, according to one of the staffers who asked not to be named because he is seeking another job in sports.”

I saw this on the news earlier today. They said the heat are making sure they are able to find jobs elsewhere

That would be the descent thig for the Heat to do… it’s not like the Heat aren’t going to be extremely profitable.

I bet Mickey Arison could sell right now for between $800 mil and $1 billion US.

Manchester United is worth 1.8 billion, more than any other sports club in the world. Soccer is where the real money is at.

    Just sayin…

I completly agree, i love when there are 5-6 teams that could fight for a championship. There should be a hard cap in the NBA… down w/ the superteams

Cleveland will have to hire extra people to try to sell their tickets

Cleveland should not have depended so much on one player.

If there is a hard cap in the NBA then say bye-bye to the Bird Rule. Or at least, it would have to be tweaked a little bit.

Honestly, I don’t think Cleveland had a choice. Bron was so ridiculously talented in all aspects of the game that the Cavaliers couldn’t help but give him the reins to the team and let him dominate the statsheet. It was up to James to take a step back and let his teammates get involved and develop. Ideally, before you’re 3 games into a Conference Semifinals series…

But yeah, sucks for the ticket-sales team.

a hard cap would not stop teams from overpaying top guys and then giving crumbs to other players. That would hurt the NBA and help overseas market so I doubt David Stern does that or else it would have been done. A hard cap will never happen. Unguaranteed contracts and less cap space will happen first.
