So i’ve been thinking of a team of guys that had the potential to become some of the greatest players ever but just never did whether it was for injury or lack of passion or whatever the case:

    PG:Penny Hardaway (Injury)
SG:Vince Carter (admitted and displayed lack of passion)
    SF:Grant Hill (injury)
    PF:Chris Webber (injury)
    C:Rasheed Wallace (lack of passion)

Penny was obviously a stud that i couldve seen winning championships like kobe if he had been able to keep shaq in orlando with him. He was a big pg that could score well enough to play the 2 and he could defend the 3 as well. One of the most versaitle guys ever. Vince had all the athleticism in the world and when he wanted to could dominate any game but he openly admitted to not trying while in toronto. He was supposed to be the next jordan but he never possessed the same type of willpower and competitive edge jordan had. Grant hill has also obviously been injury plagued and even now he’s old but still effective and good for an occasional highlight dunk as well as a guy who can guard the other teams best player for stretches of time. C webb met his statistical potential have monster games (he had a 52 point, 21 rebound game) but i think if he had been able to help sacramento win a championship before his injury that he wouldve gotten serious consideration to become a HOFer because he wouldve brought a championship to a city that doesnt have one and i think a ring is one of the only accolades he doesnt have. Rasheed is more of a 4 than a 5 but i put him on here because he definitely had the talent to become a hall of fame guy. His back to the basket game was spectacular. He was long enough to virtually turn and shoot over the top of anyone with great touch and footwork He could obviously stretch the defense with his shooting and he took opposing bigs out of the paint where he could easily get by them. His skill is nearly unmatched with his size besides a few players but Sheed is the classic example of “a fiery attitude gone bad” he was definitely passionate but it got to the point where he was just barking at refs more than anything else. He got a million technical fouls, and it took away from the player he couldve become.
How do you feel about this and who would you add?

No Tracy McGrady? He was a 32-6-5 guy at the age of 23.

Lamar odom is a good one. i didnt put t mac because i think vince carter couldve been better as he was the superior athlete although both of them were crazy athletic. Tmac has been slowed by injury and he was never able to get out of the first round of the playoffs whereas vince hasnt really had crazy injuries he just didnt display the passion or will to become what he was capable of

I dont know if Sheed really had a lack of passion. You just never when he was gonna explode and be a distraction. He was probably the most versatile big man in the prime of his career since he could defend PFs and Cs and step out and stretch the D. That might have been what limited him- always shooting jumpers and not taking advantage of his size.

PG- Shaun Livingston. 6 ft. 7 in PG. He’d be a superstar without that injury. Luckily he’s only 24 and he can still put a solid career together.
SG- Vince Carter. Athletic freak but no passion. He could dunk on anyone, but couldn’t go 100% at all times.
SF- Joe Alexander. Everyone else said Grant Hill, but I’m throwing a new name in there. The 8th overall pick should stay in the league for more than 2 years. I don’t know if that’ll happen. Maybe a team like Miami or Orlando picks him up.
PF- Len Bias. Most likely MJ 2.0? We’ll never know. I doubt it, but he had the skill set to compete for Best Ever.
C- Darko Milicic. Not for the potential he has now, but for what he had. Kwame Brown is another guy who had tons of potential but didn’t use it.
