I’ve been waiting to see Phoenix trade Steve Nash away to a competitor.

In my personal opinion, I don’t think it’s right to keep Nash on the Suns anymore. Nash lost Amare to free agency….this duo was scary as hell to come across. Nash has served the Suns and played to his fullest…earning 2 MVP’s and giving me some of the most exciting basketball moments since the Kings of 2002.

I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, but I do hope you respect the opinion of mine, supporting one of the greatest players we’ve been lucky enough to see play….we just don’t even know it yet.

i agree with you man, i don’t want nash to end up like reggie miller. I still remember the pacers against the pistons in the playoffs when reggie went for a lay up and he got swatted by prince. and i think his final shot was a 3 which was blocked by ben wallace. i don’t want nash to retire without a ring. just please don’t send him to the heat.

    Put him on “The List”

    Iverson
    Malone
    Stockton
    You know the others.

I agree with you, if the suns aren’t going to surround him with talent capable of winning a title they should trade him. Problem is, Nash is way to classy to ask for a trade, and the suns aren’t ready to enter in the Harrison. Barnes swepstakes. They aren’t paying the lux tax n e more, so it’s not looking great for a title run

the Suns will surprise alot of people this year and win 45 to 50 games..With no real post player to dump the ball to inside…Their game will be more free flowing now then ever before…Expect Hakim Warrick to average about 20 points…they have an outside shot of making the playoffs..but they’ll lose in the 1st round..

Yes its easy to say that the right thing for the Suns to do is trade Nash to a contending team, but whose to say that Nash doesn’t want to leave Phoenix? I have never heard Nash demand or show signs that he wants to leave Phoenix, maybe he doesn’t want to leave. I think the Suns should only trade Nash if he request it himself.

exactly, who said nash wants to leave? And the suns are trying to make moves (warrick, hedo, childress, resigning frye). If nash wanted out, he wouldnt have resigned recently. Not everyone wants to jump ship to possibly win a title elsewhere.

I think the Suns could be a really good team next season. He knows the talent and the trade chip ( Jason RIchardson 19 mil exp contract) and I expect the Suns to win 45 games and make the playoffs

I refuse to doubt Alvin Gentry for a little while, after he got them to the Conference Finals. Gentry is a great coach and they have at least 1 more run in them I think. They should be a playoff team next season.

Steve Nash, 2 time MVP, keeps his teams from winning championships. He plays no defense and that is unacceptable in the NBA Finals. He has been on so many great teams that NEVER made it to the finals. The Mavs reached the finals after they let him go. Steve Nash cannot lead a championship caliber team…. Rondo and Fisher can.

I think it would be a mistake not to trade Nash this year, but for different reasons. If you are the Suns you have to look at the slightly larger picture of the next 2 to 3 years and ask:

    1. Do the players I have now bring me a championship?

    2. Do the players I have now progress down the road, or at least hold their value?

I do not think that either of those questions for the Suns are a yes, even if they put together a good run I do not see them getting rings this year and I do not see them getting better next year (at least not Nash). I think right now Nash has more trade value than he is really worth to you team.

I think they should play Nash the first month of the season to prove he can still be Nash, and then look to trade him to someone who can send them something voluble, not a lot of crappy pieces that end up being nothing after 2 years, but something actually worthwhile. If they do not and don’t win this year I think they will lose their chance of retaining some of Nash’s value.

rebuilding is overrated. The suns were in the western conference finals and pushed the lakers hard. They have a lot of talent and would be tough out for anyone. The only team they probably cant beat is the lakers, and if that was the measuring stick for rebuilding, then everyone in the west would be in trouble. Nash has done a ton for that team and if guys like nash or grant hill want to stick around and retire with the team while winning games and bringing fans to the arena, then the suns should happily oblige them.

hahah rebuilding is overrated…. Coming from a Lakers fan…

It doesn’t make sense to me why the Suns would keep Nash in February if they aren’t contenders. I can see him being traded this season.

However, if the Suns look like contenders he will definitely be on the team all season. If Nash makes them a playoff team…. DAMN hes good….

Malone and Stockton, Miller, Ewing, and Barkley all got to NBA finals at least. Also, If I have a starting line up of kobe/pau/bynum/artest OR garnett/ allen/pierce/perkins then there is NO WAY that I want Steve Nash as my point guard. I want a solid point guard who defends and facilitates (i.e gets kobe or pierce and allen the damn ball). However, if I have a starting line up of richardson/hill/lopez/hedo then yes I would take Nash because I need a little more firepower on the offensive end. In the end the Suns won’t be winning, but hey they probably will win 50 games and bow out in the playoffs….wait hasn’t Nash done that the last 10 odd years running?

For the record, Steve Nash used to be an amazing defender.

I watched a few games from his rookie year. I couldn’t believe it, but he was getting in his man’s face and playing harder than I’ve ever seen him play before.

@FDAPO, what does me being a laker fan have to do with my comment? When you have a talented team capable of winning 50+ games and competing with pretty much anyone other then maybe the top 2-3 teams in the league, yes rebuilding is overrated. I guess you think utah, dallas, denver and san anotonio should all call it quits and start dismantling their teams as well too? ANd when you are an actual owner of a team, sometimes just filling the arena and being compeitive while trying to figure how to make one more solid move is a lot better idea then trading all your top players and starting from scratch. After all, we all see how well rebuiilding and getting young has done for teams like golden state, the clippers and others.

@chewy, by your standards countless players suck. I love how you pick on nash for no defense and not winning but then give credit to derek fisher (who im a fan of by the way). Yeah, cause derek is a lockdown defender. Put nash on a team where he is the 6th best player and im thinking he might have a title too. Yeah he has weaknesses. I bet boston wished rondo could shoot like nash when kobe was playing 10 feet off him and the celtics could only score 79 points in game 7.

Steve Nash is a classact. I can never imagine him to demand a trade publicly.

He is so good that he can make most players playing at their best.

Losing Amare is a big deal, but I think the Suns headed in a different direction and actually created some depth in acquiring Turk, Warrick, Frye, Childress. These guys can run with Nash.

Amare is good, but he’s also a big injury risk. I think as long as Nash can play as well as he did last year, the Suns would still be a good team and can likely make the playoff.

They may not be able to beat the Lakers, but going into 2nd round again is possible.

What do u want him to do bang with the big boys? he follows his guy close out on the shots if he was ripped with muscle I would demand more but dude he ain’t no dummy if he played any more defensive and played his style of running offense he wouldve retired long ago from injuries

The worst thing you can do while guarding Rondo is play ten feet off him. If you don’t pressure him then he can pick you apart with his passing. The first step to ANY good defense is ball pressure so that the other team can’t pass freely.

I don’t want my 6th best player to be a defensive liability who needs the ball in his hands to create. I would rather have role player fisher than all star nash because fisher will go all out on defense, spot up for open jumpshots and give up the ball to the people who should have it. Nash’s style of play requires him to be the number one or two guy on the team and ANY team with Nash as the number one or two will not make it to the nba finals let alone win them.

chewy, i dont care if its your ifrst best option, or fifteenth best option, nash over derek fisher all day everyday. And since you say the worst way to guard rondo is to play 10 feet off him, then you must have missed the NBA finals.

I would take Fisher in a 7 games series aganist Nash.. I think Fisher has a toughness and defensive advantage… Nash is a BETTER player than Derek Fisher, but Fisher has the savvy… I agree with Chewy, Nash would be a HUGE liability on defense for a championship contender… MOST teams that win championships has a solid defensive PG… When was time a team won a championship w/o an above average defensive point guard????

derek fisher is no better defensively then nash though. Westbrook lit him up and kobe had to switch onto westbrook for the second half the series. Dwill and nash both had theri ways with fisher. And the lakers knew better then to put fish on rondo. If their is one hting derek can do very well defensively, its fight through screens, which is why he did a solid job on ray who doesnt take guys off the dribble. Even then ray got tons of open looks and just had trouble hitting them. Derek is one of the worst defensive gaurds in the league.

I cant believe what im hearing.Imagine if the lakers traded derek for nash strtaight up. Lakers would be unbeatable next year.

llperez…I’m a Laker fan, but how in the hell is Derek Fisher one of the worst defensive PG’s??? He might not play the tight, up in your face type of defense, but it’s the other things he does so well. He cuts off defenders, takes charges with the best of them, and he’s very scrappy, he is a very smart defensive player. Yes, he did get lit up by Westbrook, but it will happen to every defender, like Kobe lit up Bowen. So does that make Bowen a bad defender?

ask damn near anyone in los angeles, fisher is one of the worst defensive pg’s in the league. He does make "smart" plays. But he aint stopping any pg from getting where they want on the court. Hell slide over and take charges. But name one time he even remotely shut down a pg? He is the lakers weak link on defense, they defend average to well above average at every other position. BUt pg’s lght them up on the regular.

Derek Fisher can in the league as a defensive PG, I used to remeber when he played for AK Little Rock he was a pit bull on D… Fisher has been one on the top 10 defensive PG in the league for MOST of his career.. Fisher is 35 years old and sure he has lost a step or two which has hampered his man to man defense, but his on ball defense is still above average… Westbrook and Deron Williams would lit up ANY PG in the league… Fisher is also an excellent off the ball defender.. Fisher is NOT better than Nash, but he brings the toughness and defense at the point gaurd postion needed to win a championship….

The lakers, mavericks, denver, spurs, thunder, jazz, and the trailblazers all have the best chances of making the playoffs next year….without any injuries occuring. That’s 7 teams. Phoenix has to be better than Houston…which is really deep and with a healthy Yao…has a better chance of making it to the playoffs. Don’t call me bias for the next thing I’ll say, people sleep on the Grizzlies. They just added depth through the draft and brought defense/toughness in Allen…. It’s awful, I read maybe 3-4 people on here believe the Grizzlies will make it.

Despite never seeing or hearing Nash wanting to leave…I feel it would be professional to trade Nash in February if there is no chance of making it. A lot of people make a case that Phoenix is still a great team and they just made it to the west conference finals…and gave l.a trouble. YES, they may have done that…but they did it WITH Amare on the court.

they do lose amare, but they add hedo, childrees and warrick who should fit in well there. Also, dragic and robin lopez are both improving into very good players. There are 11 teams in the west who can all battle for the playoffs, but the suns are not clearly worse then any of them or clearly worse then they were last year.

yes, the additions of hedo/warrick/childress look good…but I’m not positive it will make up for the loss of Amare….that’s just big. Amare overpowers people in this league and it keeps him head and shoulders above most offensive powerfowards.

If Yao is healthy, I’m certain they have the best chance to replace phoenix.

i defenitely think houston makes the playoffs. But i also think phoenix gets in. The way i see it, there 11 teams who all have a great chance and you cant count out any of them. RIght now, i have utah, memphis and new orleans all out of the playoffs. Utah could make me look stupid though if ak47 comes back strong. But right now i still have phoenix getting in. And nash isnt even over paid, he makes like 10 mill a year right? So hes not the guy holding them back from going after other free agnets. No real need to trade him unless he asks out or if the suns are playing under .500 and have no chance at the playoffs by february.

Nash’s contract is not bad at all considering what he is giving them. J. Richardson for 14 mil is tough to swallow though. Hedo’s contract of 9 isnt bad but that number gets bigger along with his age. Everyone else is reasonably priced.
