McWinningParticipantWho do you think were the best second round picks this draft?
I think Armon Johnson was a great pick for Portland, has the potentiol to be one of the best defensive point guards in the league, good slasher, good point guard skills to, could develop into a poor mans Rajon Rondo.
I think Solomon Alibi was a good get for the Raptors. Wasnt as high on him when i heard possibly lottery but hes ood defender, and gives them size.
Who are some of yours?

ChrischiParticipantLance Stephenson and Whiteside are pretty nice. The Laker pickups seem to be pretty solid aswell.

JoeWolf1Derrick Character and Devin Ebanks of LA – I think both will get minutes next season, Character more so
Luke Harangody – not going to be a star, but if you can get some production out of #52 its a steal
Gani Lawai – solid hard working power forward
Terrico White – a great fit in Detroit, athletic backup to Stuckey and with a White/Stucky lineup at times you have extreme athleticism in the back court0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/23/2010 - 10:39am #361309

sammybuckeye13ParticipantLance Stephenson
Could immediately be the Pacers PG, and he’ll be playing with a lot more resolve. I didn’t like him as a person/player, but even I knew that at 40, based on his skill set, he was an absolute steal, and his heady play in the summer league proves that he’s up for a challenge.Gani Lawal
Played very well in the summer league. He has a very effective (if a bit erratic) offensive game and an extremely high motor. He knows how to put the ball in the basket and he’s a lot more fluid and athletic than people give him credit for.Hassan Whiteside
That Kings frontcourt is an absolute mess right now (but a good mess lol), and lots of people think Whiteside is a headcase, but the real truth concerning Whiteside is if you give him run, he’ll block a ton of shots.0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/23/2010 - 10:40am #361312

JNixonParticipantEASILY Lance Stephenson. I got my money on him…

rtbtParticipantAre you kidding? This guy dominated the Big East for two years in a row. He won’t be a star in the NBA but I’m sure the Celtics will love him as a role player.
I still can’t believe Harangody didn’t go early in the 2nd round.

LAYUPParticipantI agree with Stephenson, but he could end up like Rashad McCants, but at #40, you take that chance.
Stephenson, Armon Johnson, Caracter, Terrico White and Harangody

whyyouhatingParticipantuntil he proves he is a bad person then you can say that.
I think he will start for the Pacers and play better than the first pick for them and that equals steal.
His teammates seem to like him in college and in summer league.
He even admits he was gased up in high school to believe he was the next best thing on the court.
He shot 73% from the field in summer league the numbers you can throw away but 73% from the field
that is a steal in the second round.0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/23/2010 - 12:29pm #361463

OhCanada-ParticipantI still believe if NJ kept there 2nd round pick and acquired Gani Lawal Favors would have a great motivator and someone to make sure he works hard so he doesnt lose minutes. Lawal will be what Indiana expected from Tyler Hansborough and an NBA player for a long time. it looks like Phoenix is slowly turning into a pretty gritty team with Lopez, Lawal, Hill, Dudley, Nash and Childress. Lawal has a very suspect passing game thou he should be a great physical presence down low, getting easy paint points and lots of rebounds for short spurts.
Lance Stephenson slipped do to the same popular belief placed on Cousins and Whiteside. The difference is Stephenson is a natural leader, an amazing talent, and a player with great potential going forward. Wether players at Indiana will enjoy playing with an alleged sexual abuser is yet to be seen but Im sure he will be just fine. Stephenson is a very smooth player who plays at a very intriging pace that only good NBA players seem to have. He likes to get to the rim has an amazing handle for someone his size and can finish with contact. His court vision didnt seem to bad either.
Ebanks and Alabi were the biggest slippers in the draft.Projected from 15 to 30 Ebanks fell all the way to the Lakers for reasons unknown and Alabi slipped to #50 to be traded to the Toronto Raptors do to Hep B a condition found commonly in Africa that he has been treated for throughout his professional career and will not effect his career at all. It’s as if teams really didn’t wanna worry about the medical issues. Ebanks to me has the skillset of Trevor Ariza but will have a role more similar to Matt Barnes on a contending playoff team. Ebanks desperatly needs to improve in ball handling if he ever wants to have a role greater than one of Matt Barnes although the talent and potential is there especially for pick number 43. Alabi has great touch for a true 7 foot 250 pounds, a 7’5 wingspan, and could still add about 20 to 35 more pounds. His balance is worse than Hassan Whitesides despite his strength and he looks like hesrunning around on a court smothered with vaseline. Despite that he has good mobility once he can get his balance and timing together.
Derrick Caracter showed some very good post skills and a nice motor. He slipped pretty far and was almost even undrafted, but being picked up by the Lakers could end up being a blessing in disguise.Although Caracter put up multiple 20 and 10 statlines and showed good blocking and interior passing abillity he had plenty of uneccasary fouls and turnovers that Ohil Jackson will not put up with. his development will be crucial to LAs future along with Ebanks.
Magnum Rolle had a very impressive showing at the Summer League one that was argueably as impressive yet overshadowed by Stephenson. Rolle had 13ppg 7rpg 1spg and 2bpg while shooting 57% from the field which just happens to be a disgusting stat line. One of the questions on role was what position does he play is he a 3, a 4, a 5, does he still have upside, is athletic enough, strong enough, what about his offensive game. Although all we saw was his Summer League performance I can say he looked alot betetr than Earl Clark someone who is a similar build and position to Magnum Rolle. This kid maybe more than a cool name after all.

OhCanada-ParticipantIndiana got 3 steals…
George showed great skill level, talent and potential despite shooting poor percentages and taking bad shots. Looks like a better prospect than Wesley Johnson to me.

midwestbbscoutParticipantGani Lawal, Lance Stephenson, and Terrico White…..when I thought the Bulls had the 17th pick I would have been happy with any of those three guys so for them to go in the second round is nice for the teams that got them…..

#59 overall, seriously?
in SL his body looked to have filled out a bit since his 213 measurement, he looked more like 220 in Orlando

Bryant24Participantlance stephenson is the unaminouis choice but im throw a dark horse in he may not be the best right now but Terrico White can play he jsut needs to continue to work on his pg skills he 6’5 so he can play some sg he has a 6’9 wingspan

bobbybParticipantdoes it seem like the 2nd round of players are better than the post- lottery first rounders?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/23/2010 - 9:39pm #361763

TRC1991Participant^thats because all the college seniors fall into the 2nd round—they have the experience and were actually productive over 4 years against high quality competition

RafterParticipantOh Canada, that was king size post, but worth the read, great job.
Alot of players that fell in the second were projected in the first round, some even as high as the lottery on many top draft websites like NBADraft.net and DraftExpress.
Such as:
Whiteside, considered lottery talent (and top 2 pick in the 2011 on NBADraft.net), i certainly had him higher then Udoh on my big board.
Stephenson was predicted a mid-late first rounder maybe some GMs were put off by the redflags.
Ebanks, was compared to Rudy Gay at one point and was a lottery pick also. I bet the Lakers can’t believe he fell in their laps.
Gani Lawal, could’ve been a lottery pick in the 08′ draft and then a first rounder in 09′. He’s better then Orton (picked 29th) and Booker (picked 23rd).
Soloman Alabi, was in the lottery since June and fell slowly but i still thought he would go in the first round due to his length, defensive approach and improving offensive game.
Stanley Robinson, one of the senoirs with the highest upside, was predicted a first rounder and ended up as the second last pick in the draft?!
Honourable mention: Willie Warren, Armon Johnson and Derek Caractar
These guys are too good to be considered second round picks IMO but, this is a testament of how deep this draft class is looking.
I can’t remember a recent draft that has had so many players previously projected so highly just to fall into the second round.
I don’t think all of these guys will work out and be starters but there is certainly a gem here and whoever that may be, he’ll make a lot of GMs that passed on him look like David Kahn when he emerages.
