Anyone been following it? This EYBL thing seems pretty cool, just kind of like an AAU tournament with a lot of the top HS players from established top teams. The Final Four is today and the championship is tonight. I know Mike Gilchrist, who did not play on the first day after coming back from USA U-17 in Germany, is tearing it up. He had 27 and 15 to get Team Final into the Final 4, and their team barely made the tournament to begin with, though I heard that is because of travel and they had to forfeit some games. Bradley Beal and Ben McLemore are on the St. Louis Eagles, who are also in the Final 4 and Marquis Teague is on Indy Spiece, and I know they also have a huge center in AJ Hammons. Team Takeover, the last team that made the Final 4 seems to be lead by Michael Gbinije, who is a Duke commit, as well as Mikael Hopkins and James Robinson. The Tourney favorite was I believe the NJ Playaz, who had gone 13-1 in the 3 prior tournaments and failed to make the final 8 in the Peach Jam.

Other players I know that stood out are Michael Carter-Williams, who led the tourney in scoring and had a tourney high 44 on the first day, Anthony Davis who is a fast rising PF prospect on Mean Streets, Austin Rivers killed for Each 1 Teach 1, though I am guessing he and Trevor Lacey’s teammates were not exactly up to snuff to take that team far in the tournament, and Sadiki Johnson who is committed to Arizona and I saw articles of which compare him to Dwight Howard (lofty, considering he is 6’9) did very well and lead in rebounding. Other notables are Nerlens Noel, who led the tourney in blocks and the Drew Gooden Oakland Soldiers had a number of top prospects but failed to get past the Eagles in the quarters but some players of note are Kyle Wiltjer, Nick Johnson and Jabari Brown, all of whom hopefully will grace the Pac-10 with their presence (Wiltjer and Brown to Oregon, we can dream a dream). Anyone know any more information? Just wanted to maybe start some conversation about the 2012 draft or maybe beyond, since most other draft prospects are either playing overseas or practicing after summer school classes.

St. Louis Eagles beat the Michael Gilchrist led Team Final to make it to the finals tonight on ESPN (I think U). The game is at 3, tape delay replay at 7 (So I have heard). Michael Gilchrist scored 26 and had 12 boards, for Team Final, and Bradley Beal scored 28 for St.Louis. Roosevelt Jones, who is committed to Butler scored 17 and I heard did a decent job on Gilchrist, who I think is just awesome and still managed to find a way to score. I also saw that Indy Spiece got taken down by Team Takeover. So it is Takeover vs. St. Louis in the finals, and I did not get a box score on Takeover, but if you want to check look at the link in the post above.

Sadiki is a freak down low. I don’t think it’s too lofty height wise cuz Howard is only 6’10. He’s not as good as Howard at the same stage thoug

Team Takeover won, went undefeated in the tournament and had a final record of 18-4 on the year. James Robinson, a 6’3 guard from famed DeMatha HS, scored 24 in the Final, and played well through the tournament. He is listed as a 6’3 combo, though I hear he plays PG. For now, it does not look like he is too highly recruited or ranked, but I am guessing that is since he is in the class of 2012, so going into his junior year, and I am guessing that will change after this tournament. Michael Gbinije, the future Blue Devil, scored 19. Bradley Beal, the SG committed to Florida who led the U17 USA team in scoring and won MVP of that world championship, scored 26 for St. Louis and Roosevelt Jones, the Butler commit, added 13. The final score was Team Takeover 70-St. Louis Eagles 62.
