Now that the Bobcats traded Tyson Chandler and Alexis Ajinca for Erik Dampier, Eduardo Najera, and Matt Carroll, shouldn’t a Boris Diaw and Jose Calderon swap go through? The only reason the trade with Diaw and Chandler didn’t go through is because MJ didn’t want to get rid of Chandler for just Calderon and Evans. Both Diaw and Calderon will make exactly $9 million next year so it definitely works financially. Thoughts?

Charlotte had their chance but Jordan Blew it for garbage players. Toronto should stick their heads in that Mavs and Bobcats trade and try to get Chandler and Beaubois from the Mavs by trading Calderon, Evans and Jones.

You can’t stop the Raptors baby!!

The Mavs will not trade Beaubois and there isn’t even a Jones on the Raptors.

isnt diaw in the last year of his deal and the whole reason jordan pulled out of this was becasue while chandler and diaw were expiring, calderon wasn’t, thus it was about cap space?

The Jones he mentioned is Dwayne Jones from Phoenix Suns who supposed to be included in the original 3 team deal.

    From ESPN

“But Charlotte, sources said, withdrew from the deal Monday night, partly because of a 10-percent trade bonus in Calderon’s contract (which has nearly $30 million remaining over the next three seasons) and because coach Larry Brown was not in favor of the deal.”

So if Larry Brown and the trade kicker are the concerns, then Diaw for Calderon is not going to happen.

Oh, but Dwayne Jones would’ve gone to Charlotte anyways.

The original deal with Raptors for Bobcats,
    In
    Jose Calderon (9mil, 3 yr)
    Reggie Evans (6mil, 1yr)
    D.Jones (from Suns) (min, non-guarantee)
    Out
    Diaw (9mil, 2yr)
    Chandler (13mil, 1yr)

The new deal with Mavs for Bobcats,
    In
    Erica Dampier (13mil, non-guarantee)
    Matt Carroll (4mil, 3 yr)
    Eduardo Najera (3mil, 2yr)
    Out
    Chandler (13mil)
    Ajinca (<2mil)

The new deal does not really work salary wise (Bobcats taking too much back on the surface ~21mil VS ~15mil). Maybe there's more to it.

It is also suggested that Bobcats see Dampier's 0 value contract as a better trading chip than Chandler (it's almost the same as a TE).

thanks realgm, but from those numbers it could still appear that the bobcats could be doing this based off salary. The original toronto deal would have brought back 36 mill (30 for calderon and 6 for evans) while this new deal brings back only 18 mill (carroll and najera) plus whatever dampiers gauranteed portion of his salary is. SO when comparing the two deals, this probably saved them more money. Just my thought becasue little other reason to bring on a deal centered around dampier vs a deal centered around claderon who plays the position they need the most help.

Salary figure only needs to match for this season. The salary wise does not seem to work because the Bobcats is taking approx 21 mil back while sending out only 15 mil. Although the Dampier’s contract can be 0 (the money saving), it still does not seem to fit the salary requirement for a trade (within 125%+100k). I wonder if Bobcats has any TE to be used.

Anyway, if you are talking about total money saving for Bobcats:

    In deal with Raptors:
Jose Calderon – approx 10mil, 10mil, 10mil (added trade kicker)
    Reggie Evans – approx 6mil
    D.Jones – min
    Out
    Diaw – approx 9mil, 9mil
    Chandler – approx 13mil

This year, Bobcats sent approx 21mil, and got back 16 mil, but Raptors would get the TE from Suns to get the deal done. Bobcats saved approx 5mil. For the total, Bobcats sent out 31 mil and got back 36mil.

    In deal with Mavs:
    Erica Dampier – 13mil or 0
    Matt Carroll – 4.x mil, 4mil, 3.5mil
    Eduardo Najera – 3mil, 3mil
    Out
    Chandler – 13mil
    Ajinca – 1.5mil, ~2mil, QO

This year, Bobcats sent approx 14.5mil and got back 20mil, so not sure what can make up for the missing salary to get the deal done. Bobcats can waive Dampier and in this case, they only got back 7mil, saved 7.5mil. For the total, Bobcats sent out 14.5 mil and got back 17.5mil.

I guess the trade kicker was the real reason the raptors deal was killed. If looking at total figure, the Bobcats would get more salary back in both case (5mil for Raptors deal and 3mil for Mavs deal) in total. The Raptors deal still look better for the Bobcats.

Wow, first they give Haywood that huge contract and now they add Chandler to the mix. The Mavs might have the best center duo in the league.

Before the season I would have said: To compete the Mavs need to sign an inside presense to improve their D. They also need a slasher, someone who attacks the basket.

Now they resigned Haywood and got Chandler. To solid 5’s. And they bought Dominique Jones, a fierceless guard.

    Good Job I guess!

The Turkoglu trade isn’t done yet although it’s been agreed on and likely to get completed soon. However, the Raptors and the Suns are still trying to finalize the details now that the 3-way deal didn’t work out.

From a rumor, there is an Eastern conference team that would be interested in acquiring Calderon. However, the team has not been identified.

It is a decent sign that Charlotte’s front office is on the same page as Larry Brown. It really doesn’t matter whether anyone likes Jose Calderon or not. If Larry doesn’t like a player, he won’t play him. The Bobcats got themselves well below the tax line and even after they decline Dampier’s option they still have his rights to sign-and-trade or simply re-sign him.

On NBATV it said the Mavs re-signed Matt Bonner which makes no sense whatsoever. So I know where symbol got that idea from.
