Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThe Suns are on the verge of acquiring forwards Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress, swiftly rebounding from the loss of Amar’e Stoudemire with two quality impact players.
The Suns would send guard Leandro Barbosa to Toronto for Turkoglu, a 6-foot-10 Turkish forward with versatile skills to shoot from long range and be a playmaker.
Turkoglu, 31, has played 10 NBA seasons with four teams and wanted out of Toronto after an unhappy first season there. He averaged 11.3 points last season on 40.9 percent shootings, his lowest scoring average and shooting percentage in six years. Two seasons ago, Turkoglu was the NBA Most Improved Player when he averaged 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists with Orlando and followed it up with a 2008-09 season with averages of 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists.
Turkoglu could become the Suns’ starting power forward in place of Stoudemire, allowing new acquisition Hakim Warrick to come off the bench with Childress, Channing Frye, Jared Dudley and Goran Dragic.
Phoenix would acquire Childress in a sign-and-trade deal with Atlanta, which still has his rights after he left the Hawks and the NBA to take a three-year, $20 million deal with the Greek team Olympiakos in 2008. Childress, 27, is able to leave Greece early and has agreed to a five-year, $30 million deal with the Suns. He is a 6-foot-8 swingman who averaged 11.1 points over four seasons with Atlanta, shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 36 percent on the 3-pointers.
Phoenix will give up a future second-round pick to acquire Childress.
The Suns would use some of their remaining $12.2 million trade exception to make both deals. They acquired the exception in the Stoudemire sign-and-trade Friday and used the first $4 million of it to do a sign-and-trade for Warrick.
Turkoglu is represented by Lon Babby, who leagues sources have said will be the next leader of the Suns’ basketball operations. Until recently, Childress was represented by Babby’s agency before he switched to Octagon.

torontoraptors10ParticipantI think by the Raptors getting Barbosa, you can see Belinelli or Calderon being traded.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIt just happened.
0- Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 5:40pm #352284

knicks82ParticipantIf Turkeyglue can get back in shape its good for the Suns. But last year with Toronto he just looked a little heavier and was just the shell of who he was with the Magic.

torontoraptors10ParticipantDo you have a link where it happened?

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantHedo is expected to play the 4 for the Suns.

ilike.panochasParticipantIt seems like the Suns are just trying to “patch up” their team, I really dont see this team making the playoffs this year with Amare gone. Its time for them to rebuild and get young, instead their taking on bad contract such as Turkoglu.

PaulsJayhawksParticipantNow I would love to see the Raps go after Iggy to play the 3. Would have to take Brand but Im okay with that.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 5:47pm #352293

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantSo the Suns flipped Amare Stoudemire into
Hedo
Warrick
ChildressI don’t know how I feel about this.

thparadoxParticipantWhere do you see that?
As a raptors fan, I’m praying that it’s true.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 5:49pm #352296

PlatypusParticipantnot sure why they said powerforward but oh well
Nash – Dragic
J Rich – Childress
Hill / Clark – Dudley
Hedo – Warrick
Lopez – FryeToronto
Calderon – Jack
Weems – Barbosa
Derozen – Belinelli
Amir Johnson – Davis – Evans
Bargnani – Alabi – Dorsey0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 5:50pm #352297

sheltwon3ParticipantKnicks should have tried to get Barbosa

knicks82ParticipantSheltwon..Toney Douglas is Barbosa with better defense IMO. So I think the Knicks are fine without him.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThe Suns need a post presence..Turkuglu is not a physical player..But it will be interesting to see if coach Gentry can take advantage of having 3 quality ballhandlers & good passers in the lineup Nash,Hill & Hedo at the same time…And i’ve never been a fan of Childress he has decent skils but was never able to put it all together..I think he’s overrated…
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 6:05pm #352306

thparadoxParticipantGoodbye Turkoglu, good riddance.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 6:15pm #352311

sheltwon3ParticipantKnicks82 Toney Douglas does have a similiar game to Barbosa but he is not as good a Barbosa but I will say neither is Barbosa on a day to day basis.
I get what you are saying but I am fan of Barbosa and he did not get many minutes in Phoenix the past few years and he is not going to a good situation in Toronto. Also Barbosa is a 2 guard and Knicks do not seem to plan on using douglas there. i guess those 2 extra inches and length make a difference.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 6:17pm #352312

sheltwon3ParticipantSuns will be alright, they play quick enough that they will just rely on depth and keeping the pace high. They may also not be done making moves.
Al Jefferson is slow but he would not be a bad fit for Suns because they have Lopez who can run the floor. Lopez will become the man and if Suns keep Hedo, They have a lot of guys the can throw him lobs.
Robin Lopez could possibly average more than his brother with Amare gone.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 6:56pm #352334

PlatypusParticipantBrook > Robin always, barring injurys of course (knock on wood)
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 8:05pm #352357
bobbybParticipantI am sure he meant average better numbers, not be a better all round player
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 8:41pm #352366

OhCanada-ParticipantI think this is a better place for Barbosa to play then Phoenix in terms of the style of his game and the development of Toronto’s offence in general. If Barbosa and Jack share minutes at the point it will give Sonny Weems and DeMar Derozan more opputunities to control the ball and st the offence.
With Nash Barbosa rarely ever was given the oppurtunity to play PG.This trade hugely opens up the possibilities of trading Calderon. Barbosa thrives in the fastbreak (imagine Barbosa, Weems, Derozan, Johnson, and Bargnani running the fast break…sounds fun).
Also Barbosa’s contract is only 2YR 14.7MIL compared to Turkoglu’s 4YR44MIL contract which really helps the Raptors.

kaceyParticipantBest observation of the day:
“Wow, Raptors are going to suck next year.”
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/11/2010 - 9:05pm #352369

mikeyvthedonParticipantIs a great fit for Toronto. He is a big time upgrade at point, and I hope the Raptors hand him the keys and let him run. He is fun to watch, is a consistent 3 point shooter and is quick as hell. As far as Turkoglu trades are concerned, this had to be one of the best available, because adding Barbosa and Diaw by getting Turkoglu out of town is such an upgrade. Both of them can play multiple positions and Bryan Colangelo must have loved these guys from his days in Phoenix. Super versatile, and it gives the Raptors a much deeper team. Honestly, after this trade, the Raptors might not be as bad as everyone thinks they will be without Bosh. I still expect lottery, but maybe not worst team in the league, hopefully they still are bad enough to get a top 10 pick next year and hope for lottery magic.

shannon92ParticipantI no toronto will suck next year but at least they will be entertaining,
Calderon
Barbosa
derozan

bargnanishould make a run and gun team with no defence?

mamadouParticipantOK, the blur is not a PG…AT ALL.
Hidayet Turkoglu at the PF spot after mister Amar’e Stoudemire ?, in the west coast ? you gotta be kidding me.
Traded again, or nash will be soon…good fit with dragic as a SF, atrocious at the PF wit nash.
Los badass suns inside, frye-warrick-turkoglu, scary.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/12/2010 - 12:32am #352384

butidonthavemoneyI really like this for the Suns, and I still think they will compete for a playoff spot next season…
