Everyone in Cleveland has turned their back against LeBron for leaving. But is it really his fault? I say no. It was obviously Dan Gilbert’s fault for LeBron leaving. First off Cleveland doesn’t have as much basketball history as other NBA franchises. It also isn’t a premier location for free agents to go. Those are two of the many things working against Cleveland. The cold weather probably doesn’t play to much of a factor, but the small market does. LeBron made a better financial choice in my opinion for leaving that extra few million dollars he could get by playing in Cleveland versus losing a few million by playing in Miami because Miami is a bigger market. His merchandise sales will skyrocket in Miami. LeBron should be able to get even more endorsements in Miami than he did in Cleveland.

Secondly Dan Gilbert had 5 years to surround LeBron with teammates. The best he got was an aged Shaq and 34 year old Antawn Jamison. He was surrounded by young up and coming players or old veterans past their prime for most of his 7 year stay. Many of the past legends had sidekicks. Jodan/Pippen. Kobe/Shaq in his prime and Kobe/Pau. Stockton/Malone. Who was LeBron’s sidekick? Mo Williams? Antawn Jamison for half a year? Those guys are solid players, but aren’t like Pippen was Jordan. It makes sense why LeBron chose to play with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh arguably the best trio ever even without playing one NBA game together.

So do you think Cleveland should be mad at LeBron leaving or Dan Gilbert for not making a strong enough effort to keep LeBron?

What doesn’t make sense is that Dan Gilbert said that LeBron quit in the playoffs but wanted to resign him. And Dan Gilbert shouldn’t be mad at LeBron because Dan is criticizing LeBron but Dan Gilbert created what LeBron has become. He created this so called “monster” as Dan Gilbert likes to call him.

Cleveland shouldn’t be mad at LeBron. I respect him because his decision was based entirely on winning. If he cared about getting the most money, he would’ve gone to New York or even New Jersey who have the two richest owners in basketball.

Its both their faults. Cleveland put a lot of players around lebron they just ended up being no show players like jamison. They were definately trying to win they had the best regular season record they were one of the best teams. They should’ve just traded some of the players they had for better defensive players and they wouldve been fine. Lebron didnt give them a chance. But also The cavs coulda been trading people after the season when everyone else was making moves when everyone else was instead of being complacent. One thing i know is that the Heat are going to be a really fun team to watch its basically the best of Team USA are on the heat. If i were cleveland i would be mad because hes all that city has lol.

The ONLY & REAL REASON WHY Lebron left Cleveland ..And i dont know if its true or not..But some in Lebron’s inner circle said that Lebron was upset about the Cavs not obtaining Amare ..Ferry had the deal to send Hickson to Phoenix already in place..It only needed the owner’s approval..But Gilbert heard that another injury to Amare’s eye would end his career..Lebron said get me Amare or i’m walking..And Gilbert told Lebron, he doesnt run the team he does…You’re just a ball player!!!
    This will come out soon…

with the comment u made about lebron making more money in south beach than he did in cleveland as far as merchandise and things go. I dont think James will sell anywhere near as well across the glob enow becuz alot of ppl are really upset with him for leaving cleveland. it has even caught the attention of fans who arent the cavs. alot ppl think lebron did th ecavs wrong by drawing out this process and really arent happy about it.

I agree wit the first post except endorsements. They talked about this on nbatv. Being in Cleveland didn’t stop companies from wanting to endorse him. Nike didn’t say” hey we can’t have him for or shoes because he’s in Cleveland” that’s a nonfactor because you can get endorsements where ever you go. Lebrons not to Blane because he’s a free agent. Also the regular season isn’t the playoffs. No one believed when I said that last season that the playoffs is a different animal. I guess people on here will understand now.

If he’d have stayed he’d go off for how loyal the Akron boy is to his city and get fans to love him and vice versa. DG wanted him back and now said he doesnt? DG just wants money

Dan’s just mad because his money collector just walked out on em to better his life; Lebron made the right choice 4 him and his family now and towards the future. If I were Lebron I would have done the same thing in his situation and given his option. No way do u turn away from an opportunity like this “deal”. Im not mad at Lebron at all, but as for Dan? I just don’t see how any kind of player would want to play for him after this……like if I was on his roster right now I would demand a trade or do me a favor and release me.

I’m not a huge LeBron fan, but I only agree with his decision for the following reasons:

LeBron’s loyalty cannot be questioned because the guy spent 7 years resurrecting the franchise. He signed his initial extension to add a few extra years of title hope and did the BEST he could to deliver one. Unfortunately, his fellow teammates abandoned him in the playoffs when he needed them the most. You can’t FAULT James at all for years of improvement and consistent play.

LeBron was clearly a FREE AGENT and exploring his options. What I don’t understand is why is the city of Cleveland so upset when it was a chance that James would not be returning in the first place? He was clearly assessing each and every option, supposedly, and his rights as a free agents allowed him to do so. I bet his “fans” and the city of Cleveland would still have turned their backs on him had he announced his intentions earlier. I just believe the city NEVER ever wanted Bron to leave in the first place.

    Last, but not least:

LeBron has always stated his desire to win and after another disappointing end in the playoffs, it was the perfect time for him to do so on his own terms. Does anyone really think LeBron will become “Robin” or that D-Wade is “Batman.” As far as I’m concerned, both are still elite players who will still have to perform when it counts the most. Either of them could be a Batman or Robin on any given night, but the important thing is to win the championships that they’re setting out for.

If you listen to the smarter Cleveland fans, they are only mad because he did it on national television and made Cleveland look “bad”.

No, actually they are not ONLY mad because he did it on national television. I have family in Cleveland who are die-hard Cavs fans and in addition to his one-hour show revealing his decision, a lot of Cavs fans are mad because they felt James ‘abandoned’ them and gave up on the city too soon. Many fans were hoping LeBron could’ve brought some championship hardwood before even considering going elsewhere. It’s more than doing it on the TV because no matter his decision, fans were glued to his greatness there. People still would have turned their backs on him and Dan Gilbert would still have felt bitter even if James announced it off-air. Regarding his free agency, the only thing that Cavs fans wanted to hear was that James was returning. With the time it took for him to decide in addition to him airing it no where near Cleveland should have led Cavs fans to believe that he was packing his bags.

If he had chose any city other than Miami and Cleveland, people would still have had it in for King James… Plain & simple.

I blame everybody and I think they ALL should take a look in the mirror.

Dan Gilbert: He’s mad at the man he had to deal with during free-agency and during “The Decision”, but he had no problem with that same man during the past seven seasons. He let LeBron get away with a lot, but never had the balls to stand up to him UNTIL after he said he was going to Miami lol. I don’t think anybody in Cleveland’s organization had the balls to stand up to LeBron and put his ego in check. They were all too busy being “witnesses” and getting fat because of the money that was being generated.

I think people need to understand though that players like Pau Gasol, Scottie Pippen, etc just don’t fall out of the sky. The Lakers got extremely lucky landing Pau Gasol. The Cavs weren’t able to surround LeBron with superstar talent, but they put a very competitive team on the floor. Steve Kerr said that the Suns weren’t going to send Stoudemire to the Cavs, so you can’t blame Danny Ferry/Gilbert for that. Chris Bosh had a chance to go to Cleveland this summer, but said he didn’t want to play there. You can’t blame Ferry/Grant or Gilbert for that. I mean, the Cavs have had the best record in the NBA the past two seasons. I think people forget that LeBron asked for Mo Williams, Shaquille O’Neal, etc. It’s not like Gilbert wasn’t willing to spend the money and make the moves LeBron asked for. They just didn’t get the job done. LeBron included.

LeBron James: I’m definitely not siding with him either. I don’t blame him for taking “his talents to South Beach”, but I think he treated Ohio like crap. He could’ve treated them A LOT better and handled this free-agency better than what he did. IF not for the Cavs, do it for the fans… They loved him and supported him through thick and thin the past seven years.

I’ve never seen anything like what LeBron did. IF he’s the future of the NBA, then I think the NBA has a problem. He’s a front runner and a follower… A once in a lifetime talent who wants to take the easy way out.

The Fans: I think they have every right to be upset and I think majority of them are mad at HOW he left… Not that he left. That man on “The Decision” didn’t seem to care all that much about Ohio or that he was one of their own. It was pretty sickening and sad to watch. However, LeBron fans always made excuses for whatever he did, which is also why I think they should look in the mirror as well. They didn’t have a problem with his large ego during the past seven years, so why are they mad at it now?

    @Fresh_The_Fan

Where did you read anything in my post about the fans ONLY being mad because he did it on national television? I said that the majority of fans are upset that he did it on national television, etc.

Of course there are going to be those fans that are mad he left period. There are also going to be those fans that are mad he joined another franchise player in Dwayne Wade. People are mad for different reasons, but based on what I’ve read and heard… They seem to more upset at the way he left.

How do you know if the fans would’ve still turned their backs on him had he shown more respect towards them? You don’t know… You just have an opinion like everybody else.
