OhCanada-ParticipantSo far throughout Summer League who has impressed you more.
To me Favors showed more raw athletisism in terms of jumping, strength, explosiveness, his frame can take on more size than Davis and he is only 18 (although turning 19).He looked capable of having a solid strength post game in the future but lacked fluidity and understanding of the game. His potential is through the roof although he looked like an average Summer League rebounder, and his motor was questionable.Potential is just that potential and athletisism means nothing if not followed by hard work and commitment (Gerald Green, Tyrus Thomas).Hopefully he can continue to work hard and become the player he’s hyped to be. Although many people are going to disagree with me here, Favors looked pretty sharp for an 18 yr old.Dwight Howards game was full of mistakes when he was 18 and still is too this day.Favors looks like he has some skills to be worked on but through proper development should be a beast.
I know it is kind of early to tell but did we all sleep on Ed Davis? Ed Davis looks NBA ready and aside from a couple Summer League practices this was his first 5 on 5 basketball since February. He always seems to be in the right spot at the right time which is excellent for a rebounder. He is very quick which I didnt expect from him but he seems to take his time running the court which I’m sure the coaches will be on him for. He has excellent timing blocking shots from the weak side. Defenitely will get pushed around until he adds some muscle. Showed a little Chris Bosh in his face up game, the funny thing is Chris Bosh didnt have such a complete face up game until he came to Toronto, he didnt have a jumpshot either until late in his 2nd year. Jay Triano was around for every step of Bosh’s development so developing Ed Davis with the same methods should be a breeze. Next game he has to go out there and prove his 15 8 and 2 start was not a fluke.
What do you think?

rtbtParticipantFirst, let me say everyone has to use caution when using Summer League games as a barometer. Having said that, I immediately commented after the draft that Toronto made a very smart choice with Ed Davis. They knew they were going to to lose Chris Bosch and they found the closest thing in the draft to a Chris Bosch clone.

OhCanada-ParticipantSo your saying if Patterson and George where on the big board at 13 the Raps would pass up on George and select Patterson because he is the closest thing to a Bosh clone…no.They selected the best player available.
Also sure be caution with what you see from a Summer League game. But when you see a player play good its usually because they played good when they play bad its usually because they played bad.Plain and simple.Against “Summer League” competition Ed Davis looked very sharp.

gregoden08ParticipantFrom a talent standpoint, Favors is better. He’s much bigger than Ed Davis and might even be more athleitc. However, like you said, Ed Davis is always at the right place at the right time. Ed Davis knows his role and doesn’t try to do things that he can’t do. Favors is an amazing talent, but I do question his motor and b-ball IQ. I think both players are going to be really good, but I’d take Davis.
Btw…Ed Davis was very underrated in this draft and he’s showing you why. He hasn’t played much 5 on 5 b-ball and he already played a great game yesterday with limited touches.

Bison 49ParticipantSeriously, I’m a recent Canadian transplant, and was unable to actually watch the game. Not loading on broadband. It seemed like he had a monster game given the minutes he played and the teammates he played with (hard to get rebounds when Dorsey is in the paint).
I was an avid raptors fan when Bosh first came into the league, and have followed his progress. He seemed to have the same attitude that Davis does (although Davis might be a little tougher than Chris as a rookie), and a similar game. On the other hand, he was also even skinnier than Davis is now. While he will inevitably be compared to Bosh, a comparison that keeps coming up when I look at Davis’s build, game, and even demeanour at times is a pre-injuries Jermain O’Neal. Back in the day he was seen as a potential franchise centerpiece. Not saying that Ed will definately do this, but if he is the worker many claim he is that could be the direction he is going.
Favors is kind of an early stage Amare/Dwight. Again, as a young player, he could go either way. He could develop as an offensive stud that does not play his potential on D and the boards, or he could the defensive wall that gets tons of boards, but never fully dominates on offense. Think pre-injury Chris Webber without the passing (as that was abnormal).
Both comparisions are the players’ ceilings, and had similar builds to the respective rooks coming to the league. but if you take about 70-80% of their production, you could guess the players’ probable upside. Both players have a good chance of reaching this.

Those are your words, not mine, and I have no idea what you meant by the above comment.
I merely said Toronto made a great choice with Ed Davis, who is in my opinion, the closest thing in the draft to a Chris Bosch clone. How much clearer can I make it?
As for my caution about jumping to conclusions after watching one Summer League game, I stand by that comment. Over the years we’ve seen several players dominate Summer League action and do virtually nothing in the regular season.
All I’m saying is don’t jump to any conclusions based one or two Summer League games. Is it a positive sign that he played well? Obviously the answer is yes but he has a long road ahead of him.
