Tyrus Thomas has reached agreement on 5-year, $40 million offer sheet with New Jersey, league source tells Y! Bobcats have 7 days to match.

    ——————————–

If your the Bobcats, do you match the offer?

I would. Bobcats haven’t done anything this offseason. No draft picks and losing Felton plus Thomas would hurt the Bobcats more than you think.

I don’t care if it’s the Nets or the Bobcats, $40 million for Tyrus Thomas is flat out insanity.

    So Nets fan……

You went from LeBron and Bosh

    to LeBron and Boozer

to Tyrus Thomas and Travis Outlaw?

    Ouch.

Never in a million years would I try to keep Tyrus Thomas at that kind of money. Never. The Bobcats have to be smarter than that. Let him be a part of the Blueprint for the 2000-2009 Knicks.

I would match but why would the nets give him all this money when he may not even be better than their 19 year old pick seems somebody is desperate after not getting Bron. Why not spent spent the extra money and get Lee a guy that will produce?

Completely idiotic move for Charlotte. So now I guess they’ll give away Tyson Chandler’s bad contract to make room for that of Tyrus Thomas. And people wonder why the same organizations win all the time.

It is fully expected the Nets to overpay for Tyrus Thomas. They might have front loaded the contract so that Bobcats would not match. The Nets have the cap space this year to do that. If it is front loaded, then even if Tyrus Thomas does not turn out to be worth the money, at least the Nets wouldn’t have a hard time trade him. The Nets got a lot of cap space to use this year anyway and not likely to use the cap space on any other “big name”.

I personally think Derrick Favors may already be as good as Tyrus Thomas though.

I dont understand the Nets after signing combo forward Travis Outlaw, they go for another one in Tyrus Thomas, paying them like they are starters while having Derrick Favors your 3rd pick as the PF. I guess Proharkov is another owner who throws money around without a conscious.

Is it a bad deal if he plays like Kenyon 2.0 in The Jersey Swamp…??? I think he can have a big impact on the Nets…If he gets what AJ is teaching he’ll be a Steal…

Russian Cuban had already ordered to have a competitive team next season, now that the Nets missed out on LBJ, Bosh, Lee, Boozer, etc. They are trying to scramble for whatever is left on the market, and that’s how Travis Outlaw (5yr@35mil) and Tyrus Thomas (5yr@40mil) come into the picture.

I guess I can understand why BC gave Amir Johnson (5yr@34mil). Compare to the other deals, this isn’t really that bad if Amir can reach his potential and continue to improve as a player. Even Amir Johnson admitted he was surprised by BC’s offer. In the press conference, Amir said he was expecting 25mil to 30mil, so BC really did overpay to get things done.

Yeah, this is bad for the Nets…

Not as bad as Detroit last year…

But this is bad for the Nets…

I guess the Bobcats are keeping him.

    Now it’s their problem.

this was expected though-we all knew from the trade deadline about that there will be only 2 “winners” of “Decision 2010” and the other 4-6 will be “losers” that will throw there money around unwisely

Thomas will be the worst possible Influence on Favors. If they wanted to win now they would have given $10 million/yr to Scola rather than give Thomas and Outlaw $15 million combined.

Trav and Ty can be a nice one and 2 punch off the bench…I believe they still have at least 10 million to spend or save…So those deals were structured to take to the trade with…
Figure 15 Million in Cap Space in Ty and Trav( Young Guys with tons of potential still)…Their 2011 1st rounder coupled with the 10 million they save if they stop spending the summer…They sound like they can make moves going forward…They are young and talented up and down…They just need need a star..
I don’t like saying names, But if the next big Thing in next years free agency is smart he’d look at the Nets before all others…

1.The Core-Young guys up and down the roster….
    Harris-Williams-Outlaw-Thomas-Lopez-Favors-James-Lee-

2.10 Million in Cap-Saved or used to take on Player at the Deadline( Lots of Teams would love to save money if they can’t compete…they’d dump a star if their Team is Struggling…

    3. 2011 High Lottery Pick???
Could they get the Star with any Combo of Cap Space, this Pick and a young player or Two…???

Carmelo??? Travis and Tyrus and Pick…
Chris Paul?? For Harris and Pick
Danny Granger??? For the Pick and Tyrus
Al Jefferson??? Salary Dump to help sign Rubio to 5 to 10 million dollar deal (only way he comes)
Andre Iguadola??? Outlaw/Lee and 2nd Rounders in 2011 for Iggy…Sixers salary dumping for additional 2nd rounders searching for depth…put shooters around Turner….

Charlotte is dumb as HELL to match that…..Who offered him that? His agent is a beast to get him that kinda money. Thomas is a borderline bust. I would’ve given him a deal around what Hakim Warrick got

Tyrus is a bum, ask any Chicago fan that’s watched him the past four years. Bobcats would be fools to match, if they haven’t already matched.
