llperezi would say its crazy, but when you compare it to rashard lewis getting the same or rudy gay getting only 3 mill less per year, i guess thats how the nba works now.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantso far everybody that agreed to a deal is getting overpaid. Gay, Gooden, and Johnson.

Imaking6004ParticipantWell I understand what Atlanta is trying to do, either stay in the second round forever or go back to mediocrity and have a losing record for the next ten years. And it looks like they want the first option.

llperezi would suck as a gm. I value cap flexibility too mucha nd think over paying players is one of the single biggest mistakes teams make. But with my approach, i would not get any players with the way the rest the league is spending money.

PlatypusParticipantThey should sign and trade him to a team who thinks he’s worth everything

doubledribblerParticipantThis is why there is going to be a lockout? NBA teams continue to overpay guys that can’t keep a job (Drew Gooden), guys who have done absolutely nothing in the league (Darko), guys that would only be the 2nd best player on a contender (JJ), guys based on potential (Rudy Gay). Next we are going to be paying 6th men 10 to 12 million a year…oh yeah, that already happened. Congrats Ben Gordon.

SteroidParticipantReally they have no choice to but to sign him if they want to be competitive and at have the ability to make a little noise in the playoffs. Yes, 119 mil for a non-max player is ridiculous. Like someone said above, they could sign and trade him for some pieces, but I doubt they would get anything as good as Joe. At least they Hawks are showing that they don’t want to be an average/below average team and go into some “rebuilding phase” that most teams are stuck in and some don’t seem like they wanna get out…

PureshooterParticipantI like Joe Johnson, but come on. Where’s my deal??? I’ll take 100K a year, will give you 5 fouls AND will load the damn bus. Yes, I’d be overpaid, but not nearly this bad. Plus I’ll cook omelets and grilled cheese whenever you want it.

Charlie SheenParticipantRudy jumped on his MAX offer, Joe has a damn good offer on the table but I think he wants to play for a Championship contender and not just a very good team. Him going back they will still be the same team just older still small with a new coach who wants to change your playing style and take the ball out of your hands.
I think Joe goes to New York with Amar’e and LeBron and they take less but have a big 3 similar to Boston they can get a young PG who can run the offense they have some young players plus next year after Curry comes off they can go after Carmelo, Horford or Chandler to add depth to their squad.
Joe- 4yr/75mil
LeBron- 4yr/80mil
Amar’e-4yr/80milthen after 3 years opt out and sign these deals
Joe-4yr/96mil
LeBron- 6yr/127mil
Amar’e- 5yr/111milJoe over 8yrs/171mil
LeBron over 10yrs/207mil
Amar’e over 9yrs/191milcheck the link
