valentinei just read from a couple sites that both players are falling to as far as early second round. orton because of his lack of skills and knee issues and reportedly out of shape and whiteside because of his lack of skill and complete rawness. both are basically talked about because of there size and potential (orton isnt as big as teams thought though)but seem to be looking pretty bad in workouts
there was alot of talk about stanly robinson going late lotto but after workouts it seems he’s in danger of being undrafted. i was never really high on him but id still take him because he has raw talent, is a great athlete and a good defender. reportedly he isnt much of a guy in workouts but you cant go by that with every guy because some guys look alot better in five on five situations

JoeWolf1I read a while back Robinson had problems in workouts when he’d mess up. From what I read it really let it get to him and it messed up his head. His lack of composure could be a reason why his stock is falling, thats a pretty big issue in the NBA no matter how athletic you are.

IknoBall12Participanti mean i never really thought any of these guys woul dbe drafted where they were projected anyway. i jus figured orton was a question mark comin gout of college anyway. stanley robinson showed me zero improvement at all over his career at uconn as far as im concerned. he was jus a highlight reel player thats all

stanford hoopstrust me if youre good enough something as small as workout lack of composure isnt a big deal. the reasons (the sites keep saying) is he just isnt looking good in workouts. missing alot of jumpers losing the ball , etc i bet if cousins, favors, wall went bat sh$t in workouts they still go top 10…talent overcomes almost all other problems

JoeWolf1Yeah, but stuff like that does have an effect, it may not be the biggest factor. Cousins being a hot head and Lance’s issues in high school still follow them, so if a guy like Robinson plays poorly in workouts and then lets it get to him thats gonna turn teams off. I get what you’re saying and you’re right about talent winning out but charachter and composure issues do play a part in the draft process.

JNixonParticipantI think Robinson can be a draft pick. He reminds me of Jamario Moon…..But hey, Moon wasn’t drafted either. I think he can play in the NBA in some way. Probably as a transition player and perimeter defender.
Orton is of course, a joke. No way he should’ve declared. He did nothing to warrant declaring for the NBA. At best, he’s Erick Dampier 2.0.
Whiteside is too weak and not a good man-to-man defender. Also not a very good rebounder for his physical gifts. He has some moves, but none of them are polished. He’s probably going to go no later than to Atlanta though.

knicksfan7ParticipantPersonally I would find it hilarious if Orton somehow went undrafted. If he goes Round 2 I wouldn’t be shocked that he didn’t make a team’s roster, he is not that good. Whiteside will get drafted, and fail miserably.

stanford hoopsthey play a very small part. it only plays a big part if the guy isnt projected as a high pick.
i cant get down on orton though . he even said he didnt know why he was projected so high but he went with it which is what most people would do in his situation. if i get a call saying im a potential lotto pick and ive had issues with my knee then im gone as well.so i cant blame the kid for going

knicksfan7ParticipantThat is a good point Quincey about Orton. Though, Orton wasn’t a Calipari recruit. I think Calipari was pushing him out the door as well.

MagikKnickParticipantFunny, you’d think the guys with the god-given physical gifts, like Whiteside and Robinson, would be able to shine in workouts
I can’t see Whiteside slipping too far, someone will take a chance on that 7’7″ wingspan, hes not gonna be a superstar in this league but he’ll find himself into a (healthy) Tyson Chandler type of thing
As for Orton, im with Iggy, the man is a joke as far as being a player, but you can understand why he declared, hes a ski-mask all star…

stanford hoopsi think i read cal told him he should go after gathering info on him being a lotto/firstrounder. and thats not out of the ordinary for him because he always has encouraged his players to take advantage of there draft stock. im pretty sure these same guys on here would take a scouting or writing job right now that payed very well at espn or someother major net work and get the one the job training especially if they had a history of hand problems/surgery that kept them from writing

knicksfan7ParticipantQuincey what does the people here have anything to do with draft stock. They can type everything nowadays.

scoutguruParticipantAgree knicksfan. Orton has no one to get mad at also if he goes in the 2nd round or possibly undrafted (though the latter is unlikely with his size). Hey after the season he had, there’s no way in his heart he coulda felt he was really ready to enter the professional ranks. Good luck to him. And it would be real funny if he didn’t make a roster and he was essentially on the street if he went in the 2nd rd lol. When he shoulda been in school, making progress towards his degree, and at the same time getting increased min and improving his skill set, and starting for a great program at Kentucky.

I literally spit out what I was drinking from laughing at that statement. It made no sense to me, but it was funny.

stanford hoopsit was a an example of peopel saying he was dumb for leaving
and yeah he could have stayed and did all that or he could have stayed and not done much or stayed and hurt his knee once again. it would be more funny if he did make it and had a good career. actually even though im not a big fan of his im hopeing for that to happen rather then him fall on his face

stanford hoopsexample- orton has had knee problems and surgery. hes projected to go first round so he puts his name int he draft. people say hes dumb for doing it
nbadraft blogger bob is in college to become a writer. not that great of one, but espn comes calling and says hes a lock to get a job there now if he quits school and come. hes had hand problems and multiple surgeries( yeah thats pretty far fetched of course but im tryna make the two relate as much as possible). now is bob dumb for taking that espn job?
