Andrew1984ParticipantCreate a 12-man NBA roster using players taken in the 2nd round. Anyone is available to you from the 2000-2009 draft. You do not have to take one from each year. Here’s mine. Also, Hire a coach for them, who is currently not an NBA head coach. This team would be in the 2010-2011 NBA, so consider the real-time age of a player taken in 2000.
Starters:
Lou Williams, No. 45, 2005 – Athletic, long, tough, can run the show and score, underrated
Monta Ellis, No. 40, 2005 – Go-to scorer, superstar
Trevor Ariza, No. 33, 2005 – Athletic, long, great defender, great roleplayer
Carlos Boozer, No. 35, 2002 – Other go-to scorer, great rebounder
Marc Gasol, No. 48, 2007 – Rugged, talented, big, good passer, soft touchBench:
Mo Williams, No. 47, 2003 – “Instant-offense-off-the-bench” guy
Goran Dragic, No. 45, 2008 – “Foreign-guy-with-potential-possibly-be-groomed-to-take-over-someday” guy
Bill Walker, No. 47, 2008 – “Monster potential and young, if he could ever get right” guy
Paul Millsap, No. 47, 2006 – He’d start when Boozer gets injured. Sound familiar?
Brandon Bass, No. 33, 2005 – He’d be the bench guy that “everyone says should get more minutes,” but never does.
Matt Bonner, No. 45, 2003 – I’m only taking him over Okur because I’m tired of Utah guys. Every team needs that spot-up shooter off the bench.
Andray Blatche, No. 49, 2005 – See Walker, BillCoach:

C Marc Gasol – a true center that can score and reboundbench
PG Chris Duhon – solid defender off the bench when Mo decides to slack on perimeter D
SG Michael Redd – spot up shooter to spread the floor and score coming off the bench
SF Matt Barnes – another defender and shooter
F Luc Mbah a Moute – very good defender
PF Dejaun Blair – Powerful rebounder off the bench

tdmillesParticipantPG: mo williams – solid floor leader, only reason he starts over arenas is i would want arenas’ instant offense from the bench
SG: michael redd – good scorer in the backcourt, takes some pressure off of Boozer
SF: trevor arisa – great defender that can take some of the offensive burden off of redd and williams
PF: carlos booser – the centerpiece to this team
C: marc gasol – banger down low that can do the dirty work yet still be an offensive threat with Boozer drawing a double team6th man: gilbert arenas – i would love to have this instant offense on the bench
monta ellis – him and arenas would be devastating against other teams second unit
anderson varejao – good defender and high energy guy
mehmet okur – good shooting big who can stretch the defense
glen davis – another high energy guy who can do the dirty work off the bench
kyle korver – every solid bench has a great shooter
dejuan blair – another energy guy who can boardcoached by – mark jackson
i love this team’s bench, but i’m not that thrilled about any team that has carlos Boozer as its number one option

Andrew1984ParticipantAll of these combinations would be legitimately competitive teams. But the reality is, there are typically only three or four players of the 30 picks that end up being names mentioned above. We’ll call it 3.5. That’s only an 11.6 percent chance of hitting on one of these guys, which is why we can see that each team only gets one about once per decade.

Andrew1984ParticipantAnd I will honestly contend that for 2010-2011, Goran Dragic is better to have on your roster than Michael Redd. Young, athletic, playoff experienced, and on a cheap contract versus old, slow, very little playoff experience and on an overpriced contract.
