    I read dimemag daily and today i really like this topic its about players who were decent who almost or never reach their potential the link is at top. i would like to know who are some players yall think will never reach their potential.

    i do agree with them putting gilbert arenas up there.

    Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway all come to mind when I think of this, some were great players for a couple years but never really panned out due to injuries(Penny, Hill, McGrady) and some just did well and never lived up to their potential.(Carter)

    mcgrady definitely
    he had the potential and skills to be one of the best all time, but he wasnt inspired enough, his body was too weak, and he has bad luck(grant hill and yao were always injured)
    jay williams also could have been an excellent point guard, but he got injured bad, and same goes for shaun livingston
    also, len bias could have challenged michael jordan was the best perimeter player of the 90’s, but unfortunately he died

    Lamar Odom-is my boy but with all that talent at 6’10 no way he should be an 6th man
    Penny Hardaway-barring injuries he couldve been one of the best players to ever touch a ball but injury after injury
    J.R. Smith- when i see this guy I see potential to the roof but he has an bad attitude an a crazy shot selection and a low bball iq
    Vince Carter-this guy had all the skills to be grat he is old now but he was compared to an more athletic jordan picture an more athletic jordan but never seem motivated he was just okay with all star teams this guy still might be an hall of famer with his talent no way should be happy the way his career is going to end.
    T-Mac-use to be my favorite player him and kobe people even said he was better he led the league in scoring in back 2 back season couldve been more cause it dont even look like he tries on the court he just didnt want to be great you can tell him and vince are releated i really like kevin durant cause he reminds me of t-mac hopes he dont end like him

    wow i forgot about jonathen bender he was a 7’0 swingman potential out of this world injuries got to him too very early in his career he rally only had one healthy season if injuries never got to him i wonder how good he wouldve been

    It really is a shame when guys don’t reach their potential due to injuries, the guys who are lazy sorta deserve it because it is their fault they did not enhance their skills and improve but for the players who really could’ve been Hall of Famers, you cannot help but feel sorry for them.

    My man Dajuan Wagner was the next AI I wish he didnt get hurt another couple of players are Daruis Miles, Quentin Richardson and TJ Ford and does anybody remember Hollis Price

    Antonio McDyess’ career can easily be broken down into two parts: pre- and post-knee injury. Before he blew his knee out, he was an explosive, powerful player capable of 20 and 10 on the regular. After the injury, he has become a very dependable, yet pedestrian, role playing big man.

    sucks when the league is robbed of great players. One name that will always stand out to me is Jay Williams from Duke. I think he could have been an all-star. He was a stud in college and would have been the number 1 pick had he come out after his sophomore year but went back to school to finish his degree and went second after Yao. Not a great rookie season but he came on strong at the end and showed all the tools to be special.

      Shaun Livingston is a very good pick. Although I still am hoping he can salvage his career, he was always one of my favorites. Tremendously talented player, never got a fair chance in LA. Sam Cassell was the starter for way too long imo, and Shauns growth was stunted a little, and then we all know what happened after that. Feel really bad for the guy. I still think he can be good.

      The Ultimate underachiever to me is Derrick Coleman. Had basically 5 straight 20,10 seasons, then kinda fell off. Still though, with all the bad press he got he ended up with career averages of 16.6 and 9. Should have been much better tho, especially as a teamate i think

    You would have to put Vince Carter in there for sure at the 2-guard, he makes everything he does seem so effortless still but he just lacks the will to dominate a game and step up. Sebastian Telfair deserves a mention too. Might be too soon to call it, but I can’t help but get the feeling Dwight Howard will never be known as more than a great defender.

    HD_The_Kid – Dajaun Wagner was an awesome player. i watched every single home game the guy played at Memphis and he had talent out of this world. i remeber my dad used to tell me “remember watching him play in college because he’s going to be a great NBA player someday” just not fair how injuries got to him

    same thing with another Memphis guy Penny. He played at Memphis around the time i was born so i never got to watch him but my dad watched him and he said it was the closest thing to Michael Jordan the University of Memphis had ever seen. what could have been

    hate to see a guys career ruined by injury
